Guest Cottage with spectacular ocean views on
160 acre mountain top coffee plantation. Immerse
yourself in the sights and sounds of nature. Two
double rooms, one bath, kitchen, and terrace overlooking 30 miles of pristine Pacific coast.
Awake to the sounds of black howler monkeys
just outside your window. Green parrots serenade you in the afternoon. Relax as one only can when completely surrounded by nature and tranquility. Our mountain boasts a climate of perpetual springtime with temperatures a comfortable 10 or 12 degrees below those on the coast.
In addition to the privacy of your own cottage,
you will have access to the infinity pool, and Jacuzzi. The entire 166 acre property which includes coffee plantation, citrus groves,
meadows, forests, and waterfalls is yours to
explore. Horseback riding, waterfall tours,
and sport fishing, can all be easily and inexpensively arranged. Cottage has a barbeque grill. Several of Costa Rica's most
beautiful and pristine beaches are a short drive away.
Interaction with Guests
We are available to answer questions and assist
whenever necessary. Beyond that the level of interaction is determined by the guests. We
welcome interaction but respect their privacy.
At the foot of our 2 km driveway lies the idyllic
village of Los Angeles de Nandayure. It is like traveling back 100 years to a simpler time where
people know their neighbors and don't lock their doors. We are off the tourist trail but what we lack in amenities, we make up for in
one bus a day to and from Carmona where connections can be made to the rest of Costa
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Bob, Johanna and Annie's guest house. Their property is awe-inspiring and we were encouraged and welcomed to explore the grounds. The walk down from the hot tub through the terraced coffee fields was like nothing I've ever experienced. We could hear monkeys and roosters down there somewhere and see hawks swooping. As Bob said, "it sure isn't Kansas."
After a walk, it was nice to take a dip in the pool while the dogs played in the yard chomping on rocks. Yes, rocks!
The western-facing Pacific ocean view made for some truly epic sunsets from their mountaintop. Is there a single neighbor with a home higher up than theirs? If so, I couldn't spot it.
You will want a four wheel drive vehicle to stay here, but I would suggest that you get one for any trip to Costa Rica that takes you off the beaten path. Siri and GPS don't know a highway from a horse path so you will surely encounter some wild drives as you try to navigate between adventures in the region.
Do yourself a favor and do some grocery shopping before you head up the mountain. Once you get up there, you'll feel like staying.
When you are ready to venture out, Bob can direct you to some very nice (and almost empty) beaches which you can see right from the terrace of the guest house.
If you're looking for relaxing, adventurous yet authentic experience, then I recommend this place! Bob and Johanna's property is gorgeous, well maintained and has everything that's you'd need. We stayed in the guest house which gave us lots of privacy yet was close enough to the main house that if you needed anything from the hosts, they were very accessible. The view from every spot of their mountain top property is breathtaking so if you want to be in awe, definitely check this out. We took full advantage of the pool and hot tub which have great views of the Pacific Ocean and lazed on the hammock for hours! They also have few dogs that are very friendly!
The road to the property is definitely not leisurely. You'll become very familiar with Costa Rican rural roads. You'll need a 4x4 vehicle to access the property and if it's your first time driving mountain roads, then some patience as well. Buy your groceries before leaving Carmona as there are not many options once you start climbing the mountain. From Carmona its about an hour of rural driving so don't be discouraged if you feel like you've gone too far.
All in all, this was an amazing experience that we would definitely return to and recommend to friends. The trek is totally worth the experience and view!
The location and the 360 degree views are absolutely stunning. This combined with the peace and quiet make this a perfect place to unwind. The accommodation is simple, but clean and comfortable. It is also private, even though it is only 50 yards from the main house. There is unrestricted use of an infinity pool and spa, the views from which are out of this world. Hosts are very friendly and helpful, and are there when you want them to be. Just right really.
Finally, a capable 4X4 vehicle is definitely required, you have to work a little to get to a location as good as this. It is also worth noting that it is about 45 minutes drive to the nearest beach, Playa Coyote.... But what a beach !
