Room in Tuscany Lunigiana-Castagne

House - Private room · Via Catognano, Comano, Tuscany 54015, Italy

The Space

CASTAGNE ROOM The room is inside the old mansion
The mansion was built in the place where an ancient fortified medieval tower stood: later the tower was included in the great mansion that dominates the ancient medieval village of Cattognano (municipality of Comano, province of Massa-Carrara, north of Tuscany).
Situated just close to the edge of a wood, the old mansion is surrounded by the green hills of Lunigiana, an historical area that for centuries was a passage land among Tuscany, Liguria and Emilia, crossed by the Via Francigena and the Salt Road.
The proximity to the Alps Apuane and the “Cinque Terre” makes the mansion a strategic place for excursions to mountains and seaside, and to the next art cities, Pisa, Florence, Sarzana, Lucca and to the Carrara marble quarries. You can start also directly from the house for wonderful relaxing walks or trekkings in the Appennino Tosco Emiliano National Park and in the Cento Laghi (100 lakes) Park.
You can also relax and enjoy peace, silence and coolness, in the shadow of the trees and around the swimming pool: the magnificent view over the valley and the wood around will be a real peasure for your eyes and spirit.
The Taverone river will give you the emotion of a bath inside its fresh and clear (email hidden) internet connection will allow you to keep in touch with the whole world.

  • Casa Turchetti is an impressively well-renovated historical house (home of Garibaldi's personal doctor!) overlooking a strategic valley and situated in the poetic maze of Catugnano, a fortified village. Raffaele's house used to be part of an early medieval castle, and the deep and sturdy wallstones have 1001 stories to tell...
Room "Castagne" in which we stayed was very peaceful and cool in the summer, and is renovated and furnished with great taste; its private bathroom is large and modern. Our hosts, Raffaele and his son are discreet, delicate, deeply interesting and kind; they also make the best continental breakfast in all Italy, with fresh local milk, bread, local chestnut honey and seasonal fruits. Nature around Casa Turchetti is glorious, crossed influenced by the Alps and the Mediterranean: on hot summer afternoons, you can dive in the clear water pools of a secret mountain stream nearby.
But it feels I have already said too much. The rest is for you to discover. Thank you Raffaele for everything, we only wish we could have stayed longer... m&j

  • What an amazing place. Le Cinque Terre, Lerici and the surrounding beauties are great to visit but at some point, you get tired of all these crowded places and you want to find yourself in a peaceful and quiet paradise : this is exactly what Raffaele's place is !

Lost in the mountains but close to all of Liguria's best jewels, this is the perfect place if you're looking for a place to rest, enjoy nature, have a refreshing swim and share a glass with the owner who put all his heart in the renovation of this magnificent old country house. And it feels even greater to be hosted by someone who seems to genuinely like meeting new visitors. So great we'll definitely get back ! Thanks a lot Raffaele :)

  • Raffaelle and his family were great hosts. He was kind, helpful and gave us precious tips for our trips in the area. The house is a place to rest and cut the connexion with the world: in the middle of the mountains, a gorgeous green landscape, silence. Perfect to relax. You need to have a car to be able to get around. From there we took several day-trips: Pisa, Lucca, Cinque-Terre, Portofino, Pontremoli... And Raffaelle always had a good advice to give about each trip. He speaks good French and we had nice chats with him before and after our day-trips. He can get around with English - his son and his wife speak English as well. Very nice experience! Important to know: no TV in the room, which in fact turned out to be a good thing, I didn't miss it a bit! We slept really well... :)

  • Nous avons passé un excellent séjour chez Rafaele. Il est très accueillant et nous avons apprécié les soirées au calme, à discuter avec les lui et avec les autres vacanciers.

  • My friend and I had the pleasure of staying in this incredible 'castle'. We got to meet the entire family and everyone was so nice. We didn't have a vehicle and they picked us up from the train station. When we arrived we had such a good lunch and they welcomed us in their home. Their son took us to a breathtaking place by the river. We had a delicious homecooked meal and were surrounded by fireflies! This place is so peaceful and beautiful. Although it is pretty far from the city, its worth the ride. We would recommend this place to anyone who wants a little bit of magic in the Italian country side.

  • Raffaele, his doughter Sirena and his son Michele are very friendly hoasts. Only the way up to the house was very difficult to drive, but it also depends on our car ;-)
The room was clean and we have had all we need. The breakfast was simple as good, with a strong coffee.
The area around Cattognagno is wonderful and it is a greate experience to walk around or hiking. On cold days it's also possible to make a fire in the chimney of the guest lounge and drink wine with Raffaele, we enjoyed very much!
