This is our big holliday home, smokefree, nice and easy. We have guests for 1 or more nights and it's possible to eat with us in the evenings. Most important space in the summer is the terras just near the river "Meuse".
We've a very gently dog, Irish Setter, who loves people and dogs but most of all children. When it's necessary, we can put the dog apart of the guest, such as at dinner time.
Our guests are free to stay in their rooms and diner, and it's optical (or when it's cold) in our private living with tv.
Interaction with Guests
We stay in the same house iff you need us.
We like to start your stay with us with a welkom-drink and like to have dinner with our guest and have a big conversation.
It's so nice to meet other people and learn of their habbits and country's.
We love to stay here because of the space and nature, the rest and stress-free live.
What else do we need when we sit on the terras with a nice cup of coffee and a beautiful vieuw at the river. The only worry is that we should have diner for tonight and that easy with a bread and some cheese.......
On foot, on horseback, or by bike or mountain bike, the roads in Meuse attract all who love getting away to the country. There are endless, fascinating tracks through idyllic scenery, where you will come across exquisite views, and exceptional sites where art, history and local tradition all give of their test.
Our little village is located at the northern side of the brutal battlegrounds of the First World War: Verdun, Morthommes and Argonne. After 80 years the forests and fields are still recognized as battlefield due to the trenches and craters.
State-owned forests, tunnels, campsites and fortifications show now days the life of the soldiers who bodies are buried on the numerous fields of honour.
Meuse: Land of Remembrance.
From far back in time, History has left its powerful stamp on the Meuse, land of memories. From North to South, from East to West, the historical and cultural heritage bears witness to this, charged with emotion and provoking reflection. A destiny that was to reach its dramatic apogee in the Great War.
Several times a day there's a bus going to Verdun or Stenay/Sedan. You can take your bike with you.
There's a big parking next to the house.
Other Things to Note
We're not a hotel with a staff but hope that our guests feel at home.
Your gently dogs are very welkom, but not to stay in the bed or at the table when it's dinner time.
We expect our guest are nice and gently, with Respect for each other and their things.
Respect the rules not to smoke in the rooms but outside on the terras!
Joost and Simone were very welcoming, open, and informative. The meal times were enjoyable times of conversation and getting to meet other guests and our room was very clean and comfortable. This B and B is well placed for exploring the Meuse Valley and historical places from World War I including trips to Verdun.
Onze fietsen stonden veilig binnen.
Simone and Joost were excellent hosts in an ideal location along the Meuse River. A couple of eating places and a bakery just a few steps down the street. Very good and large shower down the hall and a separate WC also down the hall. Beds were very, very comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic with numerous choices. They have a large very friendly dog. We didn't want to leave. Thank you, Simone and Joost for a great experience and wonderful memories.
My room was cozy and comfy. It had a sink in it, but the toilet and shower were across the hall. That was not a problem for me, though. What was really great is how friendly the hosts are. They offered me a glass of wine as soon as I got there, and we sat on the back porch and chatted. (Note: Joost seems to understand more English than he speaks, but his wife is fluent.) The house backs right up to the Meuse, and it's quite lovely. They also have a very friendly dog whose company I really enjoyed. I'd advise taking them up on their dinner offer. The meal was wonderful, and the town is small, with limited dining options.
The best part of my stay was the company of four Belgian cyclists. They were charming, outgoing, and funny. Dinner was an absolute blast! This was one of those encounters that you can't plan for but that become a highlight of a trip. Thank you to Joost and his wife for making it happen!
Joost and Simone were great hosts, very friendly and helpful. They gave us some great tips on places to visit in the area and made us very welcome in the charming old residence. Dun-sur-Meuse was a good experience.
