Interaction with Guests
We enjoy meeting people and interact with the guests at the level they feel comfortable with. A glass of wine, cup of coffee, or cocktail with good conversation is always a pleasure. As circumstances allow, you are invited to join us for a meal at home, dinner out, or other entertainment that we may have planned. We regularly go out for meals, drinks, plays, movies, music and the like. If you are busy or prefer to be on your own, that is no problem and you are free to come and go as you please. We are friendly but not intrusive.
The neighborhood offers so many things to do! Within a 5 to 15 minute walk you can find numerous restaurants, bars, and stores. Just blocks away are Cain park and Cumberland park with walking trails, tennis courts, playgrounds and basketball courts. In the summer, Cain park offers concerts and entertainment on many nights. Some of our favorite local spots include Dobama Theatre, The Melt (best grilled cheese sandwiches in the world), the Heights Libraries, the Cedar Lee Theater (independent movies, foreign films, etc.), Unger's Kosher Bakery, Phoenix Coffee, Parnell's Pub, and the Grog Shop (live music every night). The nearby Coventry Village neighborhood offers a number of cool, eclectic shops and restaurants including a record store, book store, and antique shop.
Downtown Cleveland is just a 15 minute drive away. There you will find all of the amenities you would expect in a major city. Unique to Cleveland is The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Playhouse Square – both highly recommended. Cleveland is a great fun to explore. A short drive of about 7-8 minutes will take you to the University Circle area which is home to the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland.
Parking is available in our shared driveway. RTA bus stops are only a few blocks away with easy access to University Circle, Downtown, and the Cleveland Clinic. Buses connect to the rail system on primary routes. From our place, you can drive just about anywhere in the city in a half hour or less. Feel free to borrow one of our bicycles for transportation or pleasure riding.
Other Things to Note
An additional bedroom is available. This room is equipped with a futon that converts to a bed. Perfect for a second or third traveler in your party. If you have a bigger group or kids, the office can accommodate air mattresses and sleeping bags as well. The fee for extra rooms is negotiable depending upon the number of guests and your needs.
The house does not have central air, but there is a portable A/C unit for the bedroom.
We don't smoke but don't mind if you do. Smoker's can use either of our comfortable porches.
There is an iron and ironing board in the guest closet if you need it. Also, you will find a laptop desk if you like to surf the net in bed.The bathroom has a hair dryer available.
We are pretty flexible and don't have many rules. Just keep the noise to reasonable levels and clean up after yourself
Amazing hosts. Super welcoming. Know hte city well. Had snacks, toiletries, giant TV, amazon, etc. One of the best airbnb's I've stayed in, no joke. Really close to the Cleveland clinic and UH hospitals.
Gary and Ann were wonderful hosts. The room was exactly as described and was very comfortable. Gary met me when I arrived, toured me around the house and made me feel right at home. They gave me lots of suggestions of nearby places to eat and even invited me to join them for some of their weekend activities. I would highly recommend Gary and Ann's Air bnb.
The reservation was canceled 12 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Gary and Ann were delightful hosts. They provided us with essentially full run of their lovely home and lots of useful information regarding interesting places to go and things to do in the area. They had fruits, breads, and cereals available for breakfast as well as coffee and tea, and Gary even showed off his bartending skills in the evening (ask him to make you a Green Point cocktail, if you are especially adventurous!). The house is located on a quiet street just off Euclid Heights, a short drive to the Severance shopping center as well as to the stores, restaurants and coffee houses on Lee Road (a favorite haunt for us). It has just the one bathroom, but it was adjacent to our room, and we were the only guests staying there, so that was no inconvenience at all. Gary and Ann are often around working out of their home, and were good conversationalists and fun to get to know. We very much enjoyed our stay with them and look forward to staying with them again.
I enjoyed a comfortable stay in Gary and Ann's beautiful, turn of (19th) the century apartment. They were perfectly accommodating and had a simple, clean space for guests that felt very private. Parking was free and easy. I liked the diverse neighborhood and convenient access to John Carroll University.
Ann and Gary were great hosts with a beautiful home. It's well located for exploring both Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights; moreover, they have a large binder of nearby recommendations.
Other than finding my way to their home (computer based directions neglected to indicate that one of the major roads made a 90 degree turn along the way, and I found even locals were confused), everything else was great. Their place was spotless and homey, the bed comfortable, the hosts - Gary and Ann - welcoming, interesting, sociable. They went out one evening before I returned and left a note about the club/bar they went to and invited me to join them there. I was attending a conference, and it worked better for my schedule to leave early a.m., and ask(in advance) for a late check-out around 2:00 p.m. They said yes right away.
