French Heritage Tower (since 1919). Built in 1282 by order of Jean de Grailly (Seneschal of English King Edward and Captal de Buch).
The house is on the corner of the Main Square,
surrounded by other restored buildings.
French Heritage Monument: La Maison du Bayle (bailiff). Built in 1282 by order of Jean de Grailly (Seneschal of the English King Edward and Captal de Buch). The House is on the corner of main plaza, surrounded by other restored buildings.
In a 20 mile radius you can explore medieval castles (One Hundred Years War). Castelnaud, Beynac, Bastides, Domme, Monpazier, Bergerac. Pre-historic caves (Lascaux), horse riding, golf. Canoeing on the Dordogne River, fishing, cycling, gastronomy, markets.
Accommodation. Two bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin). Dining room. Bathroom with shower. Electric heating in every room. Linen, cutlery, dishes etc provided.
Main bedroom is the one with the gothic windows. The small one is just on top of the bed. As you can perceive it´s very pleasant to wake up with the view of the main street, and the church. The other two rooms (living room-kitchen, and two beds bedroom) show a view to the main square (la Halle)
Kitchen is equipped with a normal refrigerator, and a small gas cooker with two fires. I recommend going out and tasting local gastronomy, or go picnic, more than (email hidden) at home could be a good option for dinners, except if we have the chance of a "marché nocturne", in Cadouin or in Le Buisson de Cadouin, or any other taking place nearby.
Every room has electric heating. Hot water is supplied by gas heater(no cuts). There is a toilet with shower.
The house is rented for your only use, so you have access to everything in the house
All your neighbours of the houses in the main square usually speak French and English. There is a pub in front of the house and the owner is Scottish, though he also speaks a fluent French
To get into the house you'll need a car or a bike. Lalinde is 7 km away, and there you have a railway station that can bring you anywhere in France. There are buses as well. Bergerac is 20 km away and it has an airport with direct flights to London, Birmingham, Southampton, Edinburgh , Exeter, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, Liverpool, East Midlands, Charleroi, Paris, and Rotterdam.
Other Things to Note
I smoke, have children and a dog (an Irish Setter), so smoking, dogs, and children are allowed.
I prefer to rent the house in a week basis (from Saturday to Saturday).
I don't usually live there, so there is locally someone taking care of the house that has to be paid for cleaning it after each guest leaves.
It was a privilege to stay in this unique, historical building in the centre of the beautiful and ancient village of Molieres. Our host made us very welcome, as did our neighbours in the square. The bar/restaurant opposite was also great value.
We strongly recommend Xavier's 'la Maison du Bayle' in Molières (especially when you are travelling on a budget, as we did).
Situated in a beautiful valley lies this astonishing historical house in what undoubtedly is of the most villages of France.
Xavier was a wonderful host and a very fair-minded person; he was always very kind and willing to help whenever he could.
In short, our stay in 'la Maison du Bayle' and the region of the Dordogne was marvellous in every respect, the helpfulness and kindness of Xavier only contributed to this.
I love this area of France. With such a lot of history , and activities on free air around. Places to visit and enjoy. I have been going there since I got to discover that my surname comes from the village beside (Lalinde). My daugther and son loved and loves going there (since they were 8 and 7).
Good wine, good food, marvellous countryside and people.
What else can you ask for?
