We have a 3 bedroom house in neighborhood right off the university of Puerto Rico and known for having lots of trees & professors. San Juan is a bustling city but our neighborhood breathes tranquility. We are 8 minutes walking to the Rio Piedras bus terminal - so if using public transportation you are just a short walk away to the buses to go to OSJ, beach etc. The Rio Piedras center has a personality of its own and isn't the chicest place but is great for those looking for a more local flavor, although others may find it off-putting. We are also 12 mins away walking from the train station-the train is faster than the buses but does not go all the way to the tourist area, however it does cut from the total transportation time. Renting a car is highly recommended, particularly if you plan on doing activities outside of the San Juan area. A car is also recommended for guests that think they won't feel comfortable at the bus terminal (see description above).
Old San Juan (the historical part) is 20 minutes away driving.
Isla Verde -known for the beach & hotel area- is 10 minute drive.
The Rainforest is a 40 minute drive.
Has a queen sized bed, a lamp, a double-sized closet partially empty, mirror, a ceiling fan and a a/c unit.
The bathroom is located in the hallway and would be just for the guests as we have our own bathroom in the master bedroom. However our 3 year old prefers bathing in that bathroom, so you may need to share that space once a day.
Balcony, living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry (extra charge for excessive use more than 1 load a week), back-yard, room #1 is the guest bedroom room #2 is the playroom & room #3 is our master bedroom. The house, as most homes in Puerto Rico does not have central a/c but we have a very airy home and several ceiling fans. Although the website is called airbnb we are not a bnb, we are a homestay and therefore don't provide breakfast. You are welcome to use the kitchen and pantry though.
Who lives in the home:
Luis is a lawyer by day and artist on the weekends. Most of the art in our home was created by him.
Sacha owns a language school. Both are late 30's
Mateo is our toddler son (born late 2011). Right now we walks, talks and is a bit shy with newcomers but after he warms up he is super friendly, expect him to offer you a toy and a high 5. We put him down at 9pm and he wakes at 6:30.
Sara is a year and a half, she walks, semi-talks, she is more low key than her brother and will only fuss when he bothers her.
We try and keep the toys contained in the playroom but they are 2 small kids that make messes very quickly. This is not the place for those that want 100% silence, super orderly etc, it is an active, working daily family home.
Ceasar is a 8 year old shi-tzu. Believes he is the center of the universe.
Ibiza is a 7 year old shi-tzu. Knows she is the center of the universe.
Nacho is a 4 year old greyhound/pitbull mix rescued from the streets. But has never gotten used to being a house dog and frequently escapes, he prefers to live in the front yard.
We like eating, cooking, talking art, film & literature.
Wi-fi, kitchen, common areas, bathroom.
Interaction with Guests
We try and interact as much as possible based on our guests sleep patterns and evening arrival times. We are up early 7-9 and then home and up again 7-10. Those would be the times we would be available to interact the most.
Yes, but the area is not pretty so it is not for all travelers.
Mateo & Sara are walking, running and climbing. They are also into making messes and although we try and keep up with them its not always possible!
We don't party, but are OK with people who do as long as they aren't waking us up at 4:00am in a drunken stupor or crashing the car against the fence in an attempt to park it.
No drugs allowed, tolerated at all.
Smokers -outside only. There is a wonderful area in the backyard for this.
Must accept dogs as we will not limit their space for the guests. Dogs are on the balcony when nobody is home and allowed free access to the front part of the house when somebody is there.
Must coordinate arrival & departure time with us in order to make sure we are there to greet/open and upon departure get our keys back.
We really enjoyed our stay here! Mateo and Sacha was really welcoming and open to sharing their home! They shared stay in their fridge and cabinets for us to store our snacks, and even offered us some of their own. They offered us a ride from they airport. They allowed us to use their washer and dryer. Also, there was an issue with booking the room for the appropriate dates and they were flexible with us. They were very accommodating. I would definitely book a room with them again!
Great people! Mateo and Sacha were very friendly and helpful. Sacha is very knowledgeable about the different places and activities you could visit on the island. She even offered to help us set up appointments for certain activities. She literally could help you plan your entire day/trip there. She's a great resource and is happy to help.
They have a beautiful and clean home, as displayed in the pictures! We didn't have any issues with staying there. Also, they do mention they have small children and dogs to make you aware that there will be some noise. However, we weren't disturbed by either. They made an effort to keep the children quiet in the morning, and they put them to sleep early at night. The dogs bark on occasion but they keep them outside most of the day and if you close your bedroom door you'll barely hear them. Our sleep wasn't disturbed by the children or dogs.
We had a great stay with the family!
Sacha and Luis were wonderful to stay with! They had a lovely house, with a nice clean room and bathroom for there guest. Sacha was very helpful with giving us tips and advice on the places we where planning on visiting. She was also able to pick us up from the airport and show us around her neighborhood. They had no problem with us using there washer and dryer as well as there kitchen. We had a wonderful time, and would definitely return!
Sacha and her family are lovely! We had a wonderful time at their home. Very comfortable bed and emaculate shared living spaces! They have totally inspired me to redecorate in my own home! Louis even made us a delicious late night pizza when we arrived exhausted the first evening at their house. They have a delighful child and are very thoughtful hosts.
Sacha and Luis were very hospitable hosts. We arrived later than expected and although they had been up late the night before stayed up to greet us, show us the room and chat a while. The bedroom was very roomy, comfortable and well ventilated with both an A/C unit and ceiling fan. It was also very nice to have our own bathroom. The shower water was plentiful and warm.
Sacha was also full of interesting information about the area and other questions about life in Puerto Rico that we found very interesting and appreciated them opening up with us about. We truly felt like we were experiencing what a chat with locals would be vs. tourists.
Sacha was also very generous, offered me some of her takeout that she got one night and a couple ziplock bags that we used for making sandwiches. She made my gf coffee a couple times too.
One piece of information that might be helpful for visitors is that if you either: tend to be a light sleeper, arrive from the West coast and are jet lagged, or have a tendency of sleeping late, you may find some of the noises in the house and neighborhood difficult to sleep with. I was all of the above, my girlfriend is a heavier sleeper and she didn't have as difficult a time. Outside, there are other dogs in the neighborhood that the Sacha's dogs bark at and inside, the house is definitely up around 8:45AM. Getting solid rest after that was difficult for me. It is clearly stated on Sacha's profile that she has dogs and a young son, so I don't feel like this was not disclosed.
Also, make sure you understand how to use the alarm, I ended up setting it off late one night by accident. Sorry about that!
Overall the stay was fine. Thanks!
More than hospitable: Sacha and Luis were very welcoming, and most helpful with information about the sites and places to experience in Puerto Rico.
Hertz left us without a car for the only two nights we were there, but the proximity of Sacha's home to both Old San Juan and the airport made it very convenient for us to travel until our rental car was available. Luis even gave us a ride into Old San Juan
We have to just recommend Sasha and her accommodation. She and her husband are very nice and friendly. They are very helpfull with arranging your day, they know and they can tell you a lot about atractions and places around of Puerto Rico.
Our room was small but we had everything what we needed. We could use kitchen and fridge without restrictions. Somebody can be afraid about their dogs (they have 3) but you don´t have to, they are nice and good. Everything during our vacation was great and amazing and we can recommend Sasha to everybody.
Sacha and Luis were truly awesome. This was my very first trip and experience using airbnb and I can't express enough how much I appreciate meeting patient and interesting people like Sacha and Luis. I learned alot from them about my homeland as well as how to get around the city. The room is exactly what it looked like in the picture. I got around the city just fine and was able to meet some cool people from the University of Puerto Rico since I was so close. I am thankful to have been welcomed by the family and have been treated like I was family. Thank you soo much for everything. I would certainty love to come back to visit and this time bring my family and friends. Thanks again. I hope I wasn't too much. lol

We are an easy going couple that is into literature, movies and good eating. Sacha owns a language school. Luis is a lawyer with the local goverment and has a dry wit that flows easily. He is also a great cook. We have two toddlers, Mateo & Sara.
