Welcome to Arc en Ciel; a quiet respite in the French countryside.
FULL of old world country charm, our spacious home is away from it all.
Enjoy cooking in the well-equipped kitchen, and dine on the terrace with the birds & setting sun.
Welcome to our home in France!
We love sharing it with those who appreciate the sublime nature of French country living.
Arc en Ciel is located in a very typical, small French village that spills into the fields of Normandy, on the Normandy/Brittany border.
Directly across from the village church, we are away from it all and yet central to everything.
10 minutes from Pontorson, 15 minutes from the Abbey of Mont St Michel, 20 minutes from the American Cemetery in St James. CLOSE to Bayeaux and the D Day Beaches.
COUNTLESS day trips abound from the Beaches to San Malo, Dinan, Fougeres and the Brittany coast. Enjoy your time away, and return at the end of the day for a peaceful night's rest.
Our village is QUIET! There is no commerce here; closest full-service towns are Antrain, St James and Pontorson, for full commerce and restaurants.
To Note: This is a wood heated home.
Our wood stove/hearth is superb and wonderful to cozy up to.
If you are considering booking during winter or cooler months, you will want to know how to use and manage a wood stove.
'Thinking' you do when you really don't can create challenges so consider our home only if you are truly comfortable with tending the fire.
We do have space heaters in the kitchen and den, but you would be the primary caretaker, and responsible party to create a wood fire every morning.
Bedrooms are upstairs, one above the kitchen on one side of the house, w/ staircase, the other above the sejour on the other side of the house, w/ stairs.
Master bathroom is downstairs behind the scullery (vintage French clawfoot, bidet, heated towel rack), second bathroom is upstairs off the master bedroom (w/ shower).
We have French/English Sat TV in the den which is off the master bedroom. Free WiFi.
Interaction with Guests
We are not on the premises but do have caretakers nearby should the odd occasion arise -- and of course you can be in touch with us via email.
The neighborhood' is a very quiet French village in the Normandy countryside. You hear birds, cows, and church bells.
Not cars, traffic or buzz.
It is incredibly tranquil.
Come to unwind and relax.
Closest airport is Dinard. Car rentals are available there, as well as at the Rennes Gare if you TGV in from Paris.
Ports of entry from Ireland and the UK include San Malo, Caen, Cherbourg -- easy access.
You will need a car here to get around, and there is plenty of parking.

Sorry, but no pets!

For Claire and all next visitors!
I understand your 'disappointment' that sites were farther than the manual indicated for you -- we are indeed in rural Normandy, and you have to weigh that in, to the places you want to visit. Daily beach trips are all within the Baie of Mont St Michel, and there are several -- Carrolles for us is a 30 minute drive! For Claire, 45 minutes.
So please take into consideration your own familiarity with the area, how you drive, allowing extra time for wrong turns, exploring what's in front of you -- and use the times offered as a gauge -- not as exact but as near the mark.
Aside from that, we are pleased you enjoyed our home, Claire!
A perfect place to see rural Normandy. Liam and Ani were so open and friendly that we hesitates for a moment to stay for some more time at that cute place :)
Ani and Liam live in a very quiet and charming place. So, even if it was a short stay,it was very pleasant to spend time here.
We were warm welcomed and ate a wonderful breakfast !
Plus, Ani and Liam's house is ideally located. You can easily visit Granville, le Mont-Saint-Michel but also Cancale and Saint-Malo.
So, it was a very pleasant experience !
Liam and Ani were really friendly and welcoming ! it was a great stay, the bedroom was nice and confortable and i loved the bath tub !
++ They made a huge breakfast :)
Definitely a good experience !
Ani and Liam were wonderful hosts. Despite our late arrival, Liam greeted us warmly and helped direct us toward Mont St Michel for that breathtaking night-light view. The house was charming and welcoming, clean and cozy. The bathtub was simply fabulous - perfect to relax after a long day. The breakfast was the most delicious I had in France. Thank you both for the lovely stay!
It was awesomely good! Liam and Ani were the perfect hosts. Beautiful room, house, village and breakfast. We even got a free astronomy lesson while gazing at the meteor showers :)

We are Irish American, and have owned our home for over nine years.
We LOVE 'here' in the peaceful and rejuvenating countryside, close enough to everything and yet 'off the grid.'
Liam is an avid cyclist and considers this region one of the best areas for cycling. I create boutique tours for the Paris area and for the South of France.
What can't we live without? Authentic quality of exchange with good people, good friends, peace of heart and mind, and the quietude of the campagne.
