Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Built in 1927, the Elalah (named after the historic Chinook village nearby) has a unique history as a musician's home and a cat shelter. Expanded and fully renovated in 2018, we have opened the house to our guests to share with those who are looking to celebrate a special occasion, holiday, or to simply recharge from our hectic lives. Nature walks, gardens, orchards, creek, and a small lake await you just outside your door. This beautiful light-filled house is fun, hip, and comfy.

The space
This unique space was once a small cottage on the property. It once housed the first Columbia County Human Societies space for cats and its final occupant with the famous jazz bassist, John Nyberg. John and his wife were the original founders of 13 Nights on a River which started out as a jazz festival here in St. Helens, Oregon and now hosts musicians each Thursday evening at the waterfront for 13 weeks in the summer-time. We have renovated this original space that includes a beautiful cord wood wall letting light into the living, dining, and kitchenette area with a cathedral ceiling. The full sized bathroom's shower is stunning with it's rock floor. The main bedroom on the ground floor is cozy, comfortable and looks out on the Sanctuary Garden. The loft area is easily accessed by ladder and has two comfy beds complete with quilts, just like Grandma's house!

Guest access
The house is easily accessed through it's own entrance or through our administrative office that separates the main house and this space.

Other things to note
There are plenty of nature trails that will walk you through the 20 acres here including the orchards, hilltop overlook, lower meadow, lake, and creek side walk. Weather permitting you can enjoy several common areas on the property that include fire pits. The barn area, if not in use, hosts up and coming artists and you can walk through the gallery at any time and use any art supplies that may be out in the barn if you feel art expression may be calling your name.

Location

Saint Helens, Oregon, United States

This particular area of St. Helens is known as "Happy Hollow" and has been home to many families since the late 1800's who came here during the timber boom. It is now home to small farms and ranches that are committed to preserving the land and forest around us.

I'm a passionate pathfinder, seeker of truth, lover of life, inspired by all who seek to be the greater good in this world, and love the experience of travel! My most favorite travel memories are of friends and family sharing beautiful homes and spaces all over the world. Those travels inspired the creation of Estancia Serenova Country Retreat after spending a month travelling through Italy. I've travelled to many places, but, Italy remains my most favorite. I love the people and their connection to the land and sea. Their friendliness and ability to treat everyone like family…even if they just met you in the market that day and invite you to family supper that evening. Italy teaches you not to look at your watch or cell phone, to be present at all times and the art of "dolce far niente", the art of doing nothing. Coming from a large Sicilian family along with my travel experiences throughout Italy have given me the foundation to create those same opportunities for our guests here at Estancia Serenova. We encourage “Il dolce far niente” by taking a nature walk, picking some fruit ripe from the orchard, watching the wildlife, listening to the birds sing natures song, reading a book and just breathe deeply the healing power of Mother Nature. Travelling through Italy taught me everything in life should be dedicated to experiencing "la dolce vita", the sweet life. Since selling my business in Portland and leaving corporate America behind, I have spent the last few years breathing new life into this beautiful 20-acre space just 45 minutes west of Portland in the forested hills of St. Helens, Oregon. We have been refurbishing two farm houses built in 1927, building glamping cottages, and building our own house to live "la dolce vita". It has been a labor of love and we are now ready to share this bountiful place with others who are looking to enjoy a break in their hectic, schedule-filled lives. We've hosted weddings, birthdays, baby showers, business and personal workshops, retreats, and family or friend reunions. Estancia Serenova literally means "small farm of serene renewal". The land is magical, and I am grateful every day that I get to steward it for a while as we hold space for amazing guests that are looking to connect to what is truly alive in themselves. I am also mother to Justin, my son, my heart, my hopes for a future filled with love, peace, and happiness for all. Wife to Brad who keeps me grounded, my love, my partner who lets me dream big and works with me to build our life together. Daughter to William and Frances who gave me my roots, instilling where I came from and my family history, and the wings to fly in the best way they knew how. Aunt to many nieces and nephews but especially to Jessica, Raychul, Allie, John, Nikki, Lauren, and Jared who all keep me young at heart and inspired to believe this next generation is wiser than we give them credit for. Older Sister to Teresa and Katrina who taught me responsibility and how to care about someone other than myself. Cousin to more than 34 first cousins that gave me my sense of family, unconditional love, accountability, and an understanding of loyalty, respect, and integrity. I've never known a stranger and my home is always open to all that know me. We are new to hosting people, but, love the idea of holding space for those who are looking for a quiet place to relax and rejuvenate on their journey...wherever that may take them.
