There is a balcony off the kitchen overlooking the river and waterfall, ideal for breakfast on sunny mornings. Plenty of off-road parking.
Interaction with Guests
While The Lodge offers its own entrance and total privacy, your host Brigid lives next door and will be on hand to welcome you.
I love the proximity to Galway city whilst having all the benefits of village life just minutes away.
The area is steeped in history and right across the road is the original Barna House (now private apartments) which was the seat of the Lynch family, and at one point was owned by Brigid's great-uncle, Michael O'Malley.
3 miles from the city centre, bus stop 5 minutes away.
On the busy R336, main gateway to Connemara.
Ideal touring base.

Brigid as a host was just wonderful!! She was so friendly and helpful during all our communications. The gate lodge was such a beautiful building within easy reach of the city. Although it was close to the road it still had a really relaxing atmosphere inside. It is fully equipped with everything you need for your trip! There was a fridge full of breakfast goodies, milk, tea, coffee and even homemade bread and granola (all made by our host!) We even had turf so that we could enjoy cosy nights of scrabble by the fire.
Brigid is such a lovely, warm and generous host and she even took us into the city in her car and took the time to show us the sites and gave us lots of information about the city! We also took a trip into Barna village and had the most amazing lunch in O'Grady's bar which is literally only a few minutes by car. If we are ever back in Galway we will not hesitate to return!
This is a very special place and Brigid ensures you have a great stay. Her welcoming tea and biscuits, or wine in the case of our friend who arrived later, as well as a friendly chat is a great way to start the stay. She was always there to help out and guve advice as needed and Mel the cat will win you over. The internet connection is inconsistent but still works, and the sofa couch for the third person may be tough for a tall/big person. But for a couple it's perfect and the brekkie food supply in the fridge is such a nice touch. A short distance to Galway, highly recommended!
We were made to feel very welcome by Brigid, she had a warm smile, a cold glass of wine & bread fresh from the oven for us on our arrival.
We were provided with ample supplies for breakfasts, very generous.
The cottage is just lovely, with everything you might need for a short or long stay. We loved it & felt very much at home. The location was terrific for exploring both the Connemara & County Clare.
The host, Brigid, greeted me with the offer of glass of wine which was most welcome after the trip down from Dublin. We had a lovely chat, she showed me around the property, and she'd even baked homemade bread for me. Plus she'd left food for me in the fridge of the cottage, which I couldn't get through over the three days. The cottage was just as lovely as it looks in the photos, very clean and tidy and beautifully decorated. It was lovely environment to stay in, and I was very comfortable there. While it is on a reasonably busy road, I didn't find the traffic kept me awake - probably because of the very solid walls of the house. Brigid was most hospitable and nothing was too much trouble. She made me feel very welcome, without being in the least bit intrusive. I'd highly recommend this property and the host.
Brigid is a wonderful people, very helpful. She has lots of little touches to its guests. The house is great, very nice and very clean.. I definitely recommend this house. Just perfect :) Thank you again for your hospitality
One of the nicest places I've ever stayed- spacious kitchen, lovely big living room with a fireplace and a four poster bed. The owners clearly have a great eye for decor as everything feels carefully chosen to fit in with the classy and homely aesthetic. Great sense of privacy too. The real value of the place for me though was how lovely the owners are- Brigid greeted us with homemade bread, pate, jam, as well as lots of little treats in honour of it being me and my wife's honeymoon. I honestly can't overstate how well we were treated. The location is great for getting to Galway, but the local area also has its share of pubs and restaurants. Cannot recommend this place more highly. I will definitely go back if in Ireland again.
Brigid was very hospitable and welcomed us with all the trappings of hospitality a cup of tea nice home-made bread and the house is cosy and nice. There is a pleasant patio at the back and a lovely little stream which runs through the garden at the back a nice place to sit and relax. It is a 10 minute walk to the beach with a little village close by (Barna) that has some top quality restaurants and a nice view. You can drive along the coast along the wild Atlantic way it is stunning scenery as you get towards Connemara National Park.
