We stayed at Bruce's condo for a week for our honeymoon. Before we arrived at the condo Bruce informed us that the washing machine was broken and offered to do our laundry for us himself! It was very nice of him since we badly needed to wash our load of laundry for our week in Maui after have been on the Big Island the past week. The condo was very clean and had bath towels, beach towels, beach chairs, boogie boards, tennis rackets & balls, coolers, toiletries, wi-fi, a fully-stocked kitchen with dinnerware, tupperware, silverware, pots/pans/etc. There is no A/C unit but the condo has so much natural breeze that we were never overheated. There is a very nice lanai and furniture for eating or relaxing outdoors, which was also very convenient for entering/exiting instead of using the main door.
This condo was the perfect place for me and my husband to stay for our honeymoon. It is much more affordable than a resort, right across from a big, uncrowded beach (Kamaole II), and next to a shopping mall with plenty of good dining options (Cafe O'Lei, Da Kitchen, Bistro 808) within walking distance. There is also a Safeway nearby and the condo is a reasonable driving distance from Lahaina and Makena for other beaches and shopping. Staying at a condo really forces you to check out other restaurants, beaches, and activities on the island as opposed to staying in a resort area for your whole vacation.
We would stay here again and highly recommend this condo.
We really enjoyed our stay in the apartment! We have two kids and they really enjoyed playing on the lawn just outside the patio and with the water/sand toys available in the apartment. The kids slept very well in the bed, while we used the sofa bed, which was ok but only as good as the average sofa bed. Besides that, there was no problem to stay two adult and two kids in the apartment. The kitchen was nice and well equipped. I highly recommend the apartment and the host!
I can't say enough good things about our stay except one. a month went by too quick :) Kihei Akahi is a great location right across from Kamemole two beach the best in Kihei. Bruce's place ground level which we liked. No stairs and easy in and out. Everything in the unit was great and well kept. Well maybe the knives could be sharper but we like to cook. Bed was comfortable, no need for AC, plenty of water toys. The Kihei Akahi complex barbecue had some problems while we were there but I suspect they will fix them. Bruce was there to repair the issue we had the next day. Mahalo bruce!

We stayed here for 10 nights in Nov/Dec 2013.
Overall, the experience was okay - the condo is in a great complex that is located close to excellent beaches and shops, and the lanai opens up onto a sunny, gorgeous garden area. There were some good beach toys and chairs included, which was great. However, the unit itself is in need of some serious attention.
Upon arrival we were disappointed to see that the bathroom, specifically the shower, is pretty dingy. When we arrived, there was some mould on the walls and the grout was dirty and cracked in a few spots. Also, the toiletry hanger in the shower was almost completely rusted out. I scrubbed the shower with cleaner before using it.
The floors in the unit had been partially cleaned, but there were some spots that clearly hadn't been cleaned in a while (visibly dirty). There was a note left on the table for the previous occupants (not for us), which was a bit odd, so we weren't sure how well it had been attended to before we arrived.
The bedroom door had a huge crack in it, most likely from being slammed too hard at some point. The kitchen sink was very slow to drain - by the time we left it barely drained at all. I think that some work on the drain is required. Also, the ceiling fan in the living room shook violently when turned on too high. This didn't end up being a major issue for us, because there was a nice flow-through breeze in the evenings.
The TV is old and slow, which made changing channels very annoying. Also, the phone stopped working properly on our last night there. Like I said, lots of attention needed!
The other downside to a ground floor unit in this complex is the foot traffic along the back corridor - some folks walking towards the stairs/elevator along the back walkway (right next to the bedroom windows) were quite loud, especially at night. We had our baby with us, and she was woken up by this noise a few times during the night. Obviously there is nothing that the Owner can do about this.
If we were to go back to Maui again, we would definitely stay in the same complex (Kihei Akahi), but we would choose a different unit - one in a little better shape.
Paninis and sandwiches at Deli 808 next-door to the complex are good, and Shaka Pizza is also yummy for an easy meal. Hawaiian Moons natural food store nearby is very expensive, so we stocked up at Mana Foods in Paia a few times while in that neck of the woods - much better prices.
We hosted Kim Abbott from November 22nd to December 4th 2013. Kim left a review of our unit that is not very good, and several things listed on the negative side are absolutely not accurate. Upon their check-in, I got 1 email from her saying that the ceiling fan was wobbly, there was a crack in the bedroom door ( there is one on the edge that I saw, easily fixed) and there were some mold spots in the shower. The shower was particularly gone over the day before. I was told it was not a big, deal. I offered to come down and look at the fan and she said not to do anything, it was ok, there was a nice breeze. I received no other communication. I was terribly surprised to read the negative review she left. The fan now was stated as "violently shaking" She said the TV was old and slow. The TV is a year and a half old, no one else has experienced the "slow"issue she stated. I have no control over the cable company if there was something going on. The sink was mentioned as not draining well toward the end of their stay, however when I checked before the came in it was fine, and it was fine when I checked after they left. I have no control over what they may have put in the sink and disposal unit. Unclean spots on the floor were mentioned, and I know our tile has some coloring in it that look like spots but are not. Our cleaner is thorough. The soap hanger in the shower was sated as "completely rusted out" which is a huge exaggeration. It probably does need replacing at some point. The whole bathroom was stated as "dingy" and no one has ever described it so. I feel that this review is negatively exaggerated. We have never had any response like this before. We care very much about our guests and strive to keep standards high.
About the Host, Bruce
Family owned unit - my wife, daughter and granddaughter spend time at the condo when we don't rent it. We live just 4 minutes away from the condo. I am a musician, sound engineer, surfer, family guy, healthy living advocate. I have a jazz band that plays at Mulligan's on the Blue, just a short ride into Wailea. Our daughter, Morgan is an esthetician, she will come to do facials if you want, and can provide child care at the condo if you want a night out alone. She and my wife Jill also make lovely island scented soaps- we gift you some when you rent - and they are available fore sale for gifts, along with pretty tie-dyed clothing made by Morgan.
Right next to Kihei Akahi is a really fun Mexican restaurant, Fred's. They are packed on tuesdays for Taco night, special low prices all night long. Huge tequila selection too! Many great restaurants right close by. Cafe O' Lei is also walking distance, one of our favorites. Right across the street is one of the nicest beaches on Maui, Kamaole II. Perfect sunsets, great swimming, clean sand...... doesn't get much better than that! We are proud to be listed on Airbnb. Have a wonderful trip to Maui!
Aloha, Bruce, Jill, Morgan, and Kaiana.
