Interaction with Guests
We will in almost every case meet you personally when you arrive. We can show you around and answer any questions you may have, and are reachable at any point throughout your stay. Unless you request otherwise, you can leave the keys upon departure so that you can leave with ease.
Great area right by the fantastic Westerpark. The park is huge and during the hot summer days, never gets as crowded as Vondelpark, so you can always find a nice spot to hang out. Close to the center but without all the noise. Very close to public transport, supermarkets, cafe's, bars and a famous nightshop, where you can buy home cooked meals and organic produce, with a great selection of beer and wine.
A short 10 minute walk away from the famous Jordaan area, full of great bars and cafes as well as the Haarlemmerdijk shopping street. The entire city is accessible either via public transport or very easily by biking!
Right in the neighborhood we recommend trying: the Italian restaurant 'Bella Storia', just on the corner, it's great! If you just want to grab a pizza, their pizzeria is right next to the restaurant, also excellent. There are a few cafes where you can grab a sandwich or coffee, Cafe de Gruyter is at the end of the street and is recommended for coffee, lunch, a drink, dinner. Also, breakfast or coffee at de Bakerswinkel just inside Westerpark is always good and a few minutes away!
Any questions or suggestions needed? Don't hesitate to ask or contact me during your stay, I'll be happy to help and point you to everything you'll need.
Tram 10 will take you to the the west side of the city center and the museum area. The tram stop is located one block from the flat. Bus 21 will take you to Central Station in under 15 minutes and the stop is a few blocks away. Centraal Station is walkable during the summer months, when the nice weather makes it pleasant to do so.
And get a bike! That makes getting around very easy and fast!
We make every effort to accommodate your wishes during your stay and want for you to have a truly enjoyable time. However, everyone has a different idea of what being a respectful guest is, here is what it is to us:
Treat the house like you would your own, this is not a party flat.
That means leaving the flat in a respectable state. If you have made a mess beyond what would be normal, please clean it up. We don't expect the flat to be spotless when you depart, but we do expect for spills, cooking mess, etc to be attended to.
Do not leave a kitchen full of dirty dishes, and please make an effort to wash them properly.
Please use only the linens and towels that have been left for you with care.
This is a no smoking apartment, so please don't smoke inside. However, it seems a lot of guests still do smoke inside, so if you really, really, really must break the rule, please do so very respectfully and smoke in the large open windows and do not leave a ton of ashes and smell behind, as it stays long after you've left.
Please consider the neighbors by keeping the noise reasonable while in the flat and hallway. Our neighbors are all professionals (up in the morning, asleep at night), so please be respectful of this in the common halls and in the flat.
We understand that things get broken, please let us know should something happen.
Please make an effort to close the main door softly as it is next to the ground floor neighbor.
Lastly, please resist the urge to redecorate. Please leave the furniture, etc in it's place. Use the energy instead to explore Amsterdam!
I'm an Amsterdam based photographer.
Marnix Postma discovered his passion for photography at the not-so-tender age of 26. Studying Interior Design at the Art Academy in Rotterdam he took a supplementary course in photography during his second year, discovered a talent and switched to a full-time course a year later.
During those 4 years he formed strong technical knowledge also through assistant photographer positions, but found his “depth” during masterclasses given by Tom van Heel and Edel Verzijl. Marnix states “They pushed me in a direction where I discovered a new piece of myself, which enriched my way of concept formation. They told me to do more research on myself and as I was always impressed by the surrealist movement from the twenties, I started there.”
Automatism and other ways used to pull ideas out of the unconscious intrigue Marnix and provide him with the starting points for his work. The first series showcasing this way of working is his ‘Androgyny’ series, which also reflects a turnaround in the direction of his work.
