Come relax in this cozy cottage removed from the frantic world but so close you can easily go back at any time. Whether you choose to unwind in the serenity that surrounds our olive farm or venture out to experience all that SLO County has to offer, you'll be in the perfect spot for either or both. We're on a road less traveled with neighbors few and far between but located just 10 minutes from wine tasting, beaches, downtown SLO, the Village of Arroyo Grande, hiking trails and so much more.
The space
The cottage is located on a 50-acre ranch. There is hardly another house in sight and the back deck overlooks our grove of 1500 Tuscan olive trees. Two cozy bedrooms and a fully-equipped kitchen offer a delightful respite. In winter, there's a gas-fired fireplace to keep you toasty. In summer, there is a window air conditioner in each bedroom. We have a selection of books, games and Netflix to keep you entertained.
When we bought our ranch in 1993, the cottage, which is over 100 years old, had been abandoned for many years. We have lovingly brought it back to life and are happy we can share it with you. Will and I are both artists working in glass and other media. We have used our many talents to make the cottage one of a kind. All of the table lamps in the house were made by us. Colorful, hand-blown glass spheres are combined with vintage lamp parts to create unique lighting elements. The headboard in the master bedroom was once an antique pump organ. It had seen better days, so we disassembled it and then remade it into the headboard - complete with the candleholders that originally provided the light by which to see the music. Art from local artist friends as well as family treasures adorn the walls.
We are only 10 to 15 minutes by car from the Edna Valley wine region, Pismo Beach, downtown San Luis Obispo with its world-famous Thursday night Farmers' Market, beautiful mission and many shopping opportunities as well as the quaint Village of Arroyo Grande. Hearst Castle is about an hour away and then another hour up the gorgeous Hwy 1 coastline is Big Sur. Numerous grocery stores are also 10-15 minutes away.
Our home is on the property as well -- up the hill from the cottage. You can just see the roofline of our house through the trees. Our house is made from strawbale construction which provides amazing insulation and allows for more organic shapes than standard stud-wall construction. If you're interested, we'll be happy to tell you all about strawbale houses.
Guest access
This is a stand-alone house. Guests have access to the house and yard and may hike on the ranch. We'll provide information on where to hike in our Welcome Book. A lock box is provided for access to a key.
Other things to note
The kitchen is stocked with dishes, glasses, wine glasses and flatware. Also provided are pots and pans, blender, microwave, toaster, mixing bowls, kitchen knives --- the list goes on. We've tried to think of everything you might need to prepare meals if you so desire. We have two coffee makers -- an automatic drip and a 50-oz stainless steel French press -- as well as a coffee grinder. We provide both pre-ground coffee and whole beans to grind yourself. Four beach chairs along with beach towels are here for your trips to the beach.

Lives in San Luis Obispo, California
My husband, Will Carlton, and I are artists and farmers. We both are builders and creators in various media. Except for the cottage, which we completely renovated, all of the buildings and landscaping on our 50-acre ranch have been built by us (with help from amazing friends). We have 1500 Tuscan-varietal olive trees from which we make Tiber Canyon Olive Oil.
We love to meet new people and have enjoyed staying at many Airbnb locations.
