Yellow House, in the Western Catskills, is available beginning in mid-August 2012 and into the fall for private, whole-house rental by night (3-night minimum in summer an on holiday weekends(, week or month. Perfect for families and groups. This turn-of-20th century, center-hall Victorian has high ceilings, abundant wood paneling and is adorned with antiques and rustic farmhouse touches. Privacy on six acres -- just a short stroll to a Beaverkill River beach for sunning, fishing and wading (some swimming, water conditions permitting).
The house has 3 parlors for lounging, a large dining room for group meals and great kitchen with 2 sinks, period cabinets, 8-burner commercial stove. Alternatively, cook on our outdoor gas grill and relax over your meal in the vine-covered pergola -- wonderful place to spend a summer evening! Location is just 2-1/2 (website hidden); Satellite TV; WiFi throughout; pets negotiable. RATES VARY by date and group size.
The area is rural -- neighbors near enough for you to feel safe, but house and grounds feel quite private. Hiking and water sports plentiful in the area.
The countryside surrounding us is mostly wooded and wild, interspersed with open farmland and meadows -- great for scenic drives and bike rides. Hiking is another big attraction, as are the villages of Roscoe, Hancock, Livingston Manor and Callicoon -- all with good, fun restaurants, shops and antiquing -- within 20 to 40 minutes drive.

Wow, what a wonderful weekend at a beautiful home. We walked into the house and couldn't believe our eyes. Sandra's home is set up as a BnB but we had the house all to ourselves. It is spotlessly clean. There are four full sized bedrooms so each of us was able to have a room to ourselves (there is even a fifth bedroom with a twin bed that we did not use). All of the bedrooms also had their own bathroom! All the rooms are decorated in charming antique furniture with different color schemes. We each took a turn in the giant clawfoot tub, where Sandra had left us toiletries like shampoo and soaps. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need, and we were delighted to find bagels, pastries, fruit, coffee, and juice for breakfast. Everything was clearly labeled so we could find where stuff was. We spent most of the time in the family room watching Showtime and HBO on the big flat screen TV, in front of the wood burning stove. It was heaven! The only negative was that we couldn't figure out how to work the VCR/DVD player, which meant we weren't able to take advantage of the great movie collection they had, but that was ok. The area is very pretty and is right near a river which I would imagine would be fun to go swim in during the summer. We all felt that it was a really good value for what you get, and I'm already discussing with another group of friends about coming back another time.
