Explore Center City from our historic home. Centrally located amidst Philly's main attractions: Old City, Independence Hall and the National Historical Park, and the famous nightlife on South Street. This is an ideal location in the city!
You'll have the full house with three bedrooms, two queen beds, one double bed, and two sleeper sofas. The dining room is a brand new space with real stone floors and the kitchen hardwood has been recently refinished as well. The bathroom includes marble floors, a claw foot bathtub, and is next to a walk in closet with ample space. The third floor bedrooms may be the nicest space in the house with exposed brick and refinished original exposed beams.
Our cobblestone Street has no cars. These half block streets are sprinkled throughout old city. There is nothing like stepping outside onto pedestrian-only cobblestones. You'll find ample street parking a half a block over on Bainbridge as well as three pay lots within one block. From the airport and train stations a taxi is the easiest way to arrive, but Market East station is walkable as well. You can take the bus almost anywhere, but the best way to enjoy the charm, history, and culture of our city is to walk and explore!
Within minutes walking distance:
Independence National Historical Park:
The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and much more!
The Betsy Ross House
South Street (the TLA Theater concert venue and Jim's Cheesesteaks)
Old City Shopping, Dining, and Nightlife
The Italian Market
Reading Terminal Market
Headhouse Square Farmer's Market
The new Spruce Street Harbor Park
Penn's Landing and the Delaware Riverfront
Broad Street Theater District
The vintage shops at Fabric Row
Antiques Row shopping
The Art Gallery district for First Friday
Several grocery stores including Whole Foods, ShopRite, and Essene (a local macrobiotic healthfood store with hot bar)
It's easy to explore all of Center City on foot. All the restaurants and shopping of the Rittenhouse square neighborhood is only a half hour walk, we do it all the time! Of course it's also very easy to catch a taxi just a block over on South Street any time of day or night!
Guests have access to all areas of the house, including the back patio and any cooking and breakfast goods, except for the basement.
Interaction with Guests
Call, text, or email me anytime. We live an hour away and have a friend in town if you need something just call!
The neighborhood is on the border of Society Hill, the historic centerpiece of Philadelphia and is also right off one of Philly's nightlife hotspots and shopping districts, South Street. On the other side is Queen Village, South Philly's most historic neighborhood, and bordering that on the west is Bella Vista and the famous Italian Market. Two blocks away is one of the lesser known but beautiful landmarks of the city, Headhouse Square and the 18th century "New Market" that still holds a great Farmer's market on Saturday (not during winter) as well as Craft and Antique markets on other specific days.
Almost everything you could hope to see in Philly is within walking distance. Rittenhouse Square is a 20-30 minute walk or a short cab ride, and there is a subway or bus system that runs to the sports complexes. Unlike some locations around town it's very easy to catch a taxi one block over on South and the following block north on Lombard Street.
Other Things to Note
The house is on a pedestrians-only street, but there is parking half a block away on Bainbridge. It is a three story house with relatively steep winding stairs running throughout (though we have installed railings and safety tread) but they may not be easy for those with issues climbing stairs.
All food in the house is fair game.
No smoking please and no pets. Also, please quiet by 10 or 11 pm in consideration of the neighbors.
Please turn off the heat or air conditioning when you check out.
Jesse and Libby are great! Very responsive hosts. The house is exactly as described, and it was a very comfortable stay.
The location was perfect for a conference down in Old Town. The accommodations were spare, clean and lovely. All four in my group felt like they had ample personal space and were honored to step into this piece of Philly history.
Over priced. Several lights did not turn on. When I rang the owner he was aware of the upper level stair light not working but he was out of town. Vegetable scraps in sink when we arrived. No dish washer, one glass had mould in base, had to wash all cups, plates etc before use.
We were a group of 4 adults, would not wish to stay here with any more as I believe the facilities could not handle more people.
Allt fungerade väldigt smidigt. 3 dubbelsängar så fungerade bra för oss som var 5.
Cute and clean. Comfortable beds. We locked ourselves out by mistake and Jesse was extremely responsive.
We would definitely stay again if we are back in Philly.
Great communication with Jesse and Libby from the start! They made us feel welcome and excited for our trip. Their home was perfect, beautiful and cozy! It was the ideal home base from which to explore Philadelphia.

My wife Elizabeth and I have loved living in Philadelphia for over ten years. This year we added little boy Benjamin to our family. We appreciate urban and country living, and in that spirit, we are just now relocating out of the city to beautiful Pennsylvania farm where I grew up.
We are avid travelers often planning three or four trips ahead. Even with baby Benny in tow, we just strap him in, strap him on, and go! From nature, to small towns, to the cities of the world, we just can't get enough. Some of my favorite trips of the past few years have been Edinburgh and the Scottish highlands, the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland, and San Francisco... this summer a wedding in Portugal and Andalucia, Spain!
