St Kilda Bargain - Central Location

House - Private room · Barkly St, St Kilda, VIC 3182, Australia

This is a cute room that is perfect for the lone traveller and is a cosy fit for two. It has a north facing window in a federation home that has a lot of character. Very centrally located - 1 block from vibrant Acland St and 2 from the beach.

The Space

Welcome to St Kilda!

Everyone who visits Melbourne comes to St Kilda and here is the opportunity to stay in a house that has a lot of character!

This is a federation home oozing 'Old St Kilda' and is only a 5 minute walk from Acland St and 8 minutes from the beach.

The bedroom boasts high ceilings and an ornate fireplace. It is a reasonable size for one person and would be a cozy fit for two people. There is a glorious electric blanket to warm you up on these winter nights!

Two shared bathrooms - great water pressure in the shower and a nice tub to relax in. There's a big loungeroom with a piano if you fancy tinkling the ivories plus a guitar to strum as well! There isn't cable TV but you are welcome to watch as much free-to-air in the loungeroom as you want.

There is also a peaceful back garden with chairs and a table to relax at and a cat and a dog to keep you company.

I don't provide breakfast but you can find cafes less than 150 meters away. You're more than welcome to buy your own breakfast goodies as you'll have access to the fridge, toaster, kettle and microwave.

Public transport is very close with a bus stop literally outside the front door with a shuttle to the airport. A tram stop is only a 3 minute walk. Luna Park, St Kilda Pier, The Esplanade Hotel and Fitzroy St are easily within walking distance.

You'll love Melbourne. I hope to hear from you!

Check in time is listed as 3pm but please check with me first. I can be flexible about an earlier check in time if I'm not working.

Guest Access

Guests may use the kitchen to cook if the request is made during the booking process. This is so I can coordinate a kitchen schedule if other guests are staying as well. Guests using the kitchen are expected to clean up after themselves, wipe down the stove and also take their rubbish out.
Guests are more than welcome to use the living room, dining room and back garden.

Interaction with Guests

This is my home so I'll be present during the guest's stay. I am here at check in to greet the guests and show them around and then I leave the guests to their own devices. I'm not always around at check out but I leave instructions for what guests need to do.

The Neighborhood

I love the vibrancy of St Kilda and the fact that everything - cafes, supermarkets, amusement park and beach are just a five minute walk from my house. Guests will love the scenic beach walks and the gorgeous breeze.
The cake shops are Acland St are a sight to behold and just walking around St Kilda is entertaining. I'm happy to recommend the places in St Kilda where the 'locals' eat! For example ...
There's an amazing bakery straight across the road with fantastic sourdough bread and great coffee so a yummy breaky is only 10 metres away!

Getting around

Tram stops are just a five minute walk and a twenty five minute ride to the city center. There's also a bus stop next door to my house if you need to go north of the city or to a major train station.
There is free parking available outside my house but there are restrictions in the morning until 9am as it's a clearway. I always give guests advice about parking and if the car isn't too big then parking is always available in front of my garage.
Guests can easily get to my place from the airport by getting the Skybus from the airport to Southern Cross station and then the tram to St Kilda. It's a five minute walk from the tram stop to my house. There is more information available once a booking is made.

Other Things to Note

I have a very friendly Labrador dog named Atticus who likes to welcome guests and expects a pat every now and then! He is very gentle but I wouldn't recommend staying if you don't like dogs.

  • Teena was a great host, helpful and accommodating in every way. Her house is gorgeous, a treasure trove of interesting corners and classic, effortless cool.

The room itself is a really good size with a comfy bed and the bathroom next door is equally great.

The location is just a ten minute walk away from the beach and 5 mins from tram links into town and beyond. Nearby are several really nice coffee shops, bakeries and bars.

Overall a great experience, highly recommended!

  • Teena's house is lovely charming place that I would recommend to anyone visiting Melbourne.
Her house is really well located. From there it is easy to visit Melbourne and its surrounding by tram, train, tour etc.

It's a charming place where the host Teena's is friendly, welcoming and interesting and her dog Atticus is adorable and nice.
I had a great stay there and I am pretty sure everyone would feel like at home at Teena's place. It is definitely a place where I would like to come back.

  • Where do I begin with our stay at Teena's!! When we arrived at Teena's amazing old house I was already excited and won over by the location... 5 minutes in one direction and you are in the ever eclectic & Bohemian Acland St in St Kilda and 5 minutes in the other and you are on amazing Fitzroy St with an abundance of beautiful restaurants, cafes and pubs! THEN we met Teena!! Wow what a beautiful lovely person, I could of chatted to her for hours, listening to stories about her life travels and her love of animals really grabbed me. Such a great host, generous and kind. BUT the clincher had to be be ATTICUS the beautiful golden lab who I just fell in love with on first sight... A human dressed in a dogs body, such a beautiful boy! Miss him already!
Back to the house... Yes it's old but in the best way, an absolute eclectic gem! So much to look at and take in. The room was really tidy, quite big and I had one of the best sleeps I've had in a long time! I would recommend Teena's in a heartbeat. My partner Justin will be back to stay next time we venture to Melbourne and Teena you're welcome anytime to come and stay at our bnb in Margaret River!!

  • We stayed a week at Teena's place and it has been a great overall experience. If you look for a place to stay in Saint Kilda, I advice you to look no further. Beautifull house, amazing features, wonderfull host and Atticus is just the cherry on the cake! (the most adorable lab ever) The location is perfect, and the Woodfrog bakery on the other side of the road is one of Melbourne's best. Thanks again Teena, awesome!

  • great location and beautiful house, love atticus too! :)

  • We had a great stay at Teena's and her two lovely pets Atticus and Shadow :)
Staying in this old wooden house with all its original elements is an experience on itself. The room was great, bed comfy and clean. Because of the two bathrooms there was always
    enough space.
The location is very good. Nearby the beach, trams, cafes and shops.
    Highly recommended!

  • Hi Teena, back at home I would like to say thank you again for the nice stay at your house and garden! It was great having you and Artacus as hosts in that wonderful St.Kilda. It was a very easy uncomplicated relaxed time at your house. Hope coming back some day!
Have a good time! Greetings Iris

  • My stay at Teenas was in one word perfect!
    Location, house/room, host 10 out of 10.
I was there for 2 weeks (discounted week rate) and felt at home immediately. Teena is the sweetest person, we had good conversations but she also leaves you enough space.
The house has so much character (see pictures) and is very close to the bech and good access to public transport into the city.
The room is great as well, enough space to put all your stuff (I had 30kg with me) and a very comfortabe bed.
Another big plus point for me was Attie the dog! Simply lovely!
Teena even helped me move my stuff (plus a futon she borrowed me) to my new apartment in the city- so she definitely goes beyond the things she needs to do as an Airbnb host.
I can highly recommend staying at Teenas to every traveler!
