Interaction with Guests
We are a busy family of four who live in the main house and are available to address any issues or answer any questions but can also provide privacy if desired. We've shared a bottle of wine with some guests and never met others.
Walking distance to the many shops and restaurants on Lakeshore and Grand Avenues (including two recently profiled in the NY Times: Camino and Boot & Shoe Service) as well as the year round Saturday Farmer's Market (9a-2p), Lake Merritt (a popular 5K jog/walk around), the art deco Grand Lake movie theater and the Rose Garden.
No car needed as there is easy access to all services and amenities within walking distance (our location has a walk score of 98) and you can easily get to San Francisco on the Transbay bus or casual carpool. There are two BART stations each about a mile away. Of course if you do have a car there is street parking and, with the exception of popular movie openings at the theatre down the street or the Saturday morning farmer's market, you can always park within a block of the cottage.
Other Things to Note
No living room or kitchen but does include a folding table and chair, wireless internet, Comcast cable, microwave, mini dorm fridge, coffee maker, electric kettle, iron and ironing board provided in room. Outdoor seating, deck with grill. Street parking.
Cottage is separate from the main house and accessible by its own entrance. Come and go on your own schedule, go to sleep early, stay up late, it's your own private hotel room in the neighborhood and at less cost. Backyard is shared with family but feel free to eat outside, use the grill, or enjoy the deck. Our only ask is that you respect our kids' bedtimes around 8:00 as their bedroom is just off the deck.
I booked cottage for a month to be in Oakland for the birth of my first grandchild...the location was (email hidden)d since I didn't need more than a place with a bed and a bath it worked out perfectly for me. When I first walked in I thought it seemed small but it soon became cozy. Adam and Amanda were kind and helpful when I needed something but otherwise gave me the freedom to come and go as needed. Parking was a bit difficult at times but able to deal with the minor inconvenience---enjoyed the available things the area had to offer...thanks for a great stay.
Made a quick visit to my old neighborhood and couldn't have asked for a better spot to call home for those few days. Adam's cottage tucked away in his backyard was just the quiet refuge I needed after some long days of being out and about in Oakland. It is a beautiful, clean space with all the necessities, and the location between Grand Ave and Lakeshore Ave can't be beat for getting out and walking around town. Highly recommend this spot!
Location, location, location. This place is great! We loved staying there. It's within walking distance to so many great restaurants and amenities in Oakland, including the famous Saturday Oakland Farmer's Market. Street parking was easy to find and the cottage is just minutes from the freeway. Going in and out of the city was no problem. The cottage is clean and tidy and adorable; the bed comfy and the bathroom a generous size. Everything really was perfect. I'm glad we stayed here. Coming home each night of our working-vacation in the Bay Area to this quiet spot was really restful and perfect.
We felt welcome and safe in the neighborhood. Many shops and a grocery store are within walking distance. People that cannot negotiate hills well on foot need to consider this in their decision.
Adam and Amanda have made my stay at the cottage as breezy as it could have been. Laundry was a five minute walk away and during my stay they even upgraded my cable TV to Apple TV, which was a nice treat. If privacy is what you want then privacy is what you will get and if you want company then I'm sure Adam and Amanda wouldn't mind having you for dinner one night, they didn't mind me. Thank you Adam and Amanda for the hospitality! Great location as well, only 15 min walk to Trader Joes and Lake Merritt.
Hosts Adam and Amanda are welcoming, cheerful and accommodating. The cottage is small (as advertised) and has a super comfortable bed. Amenities like the mini-refigerator and electric coffee pot make it possible to have a cup and light breakfast---what a convenience. Small but clean, light, airy and good vibes.
We did not meet our host, but the directions and access to the cottage was fine.
