----- IMPORTANT NOTES -----
Please note that our house is shared between at least 5 and up guests at the same time. Bathrooms and common spaces are shared. But yet the house is very calm because everybody is out all the time in the city!
Please note also that we don't live there anymore because we have our own private appartments, and because this place has become with time our job. We rent on Airbnb and we also develop in the walls of this house an Art Center since two years. So please note that during your stay it might happen that you have the chance to participate in an artistic event. We are aiming toward making live Montréal's culture itself to our tenants.
If you feel this experience is for you, jump in, you will never have experienced something like our place!
----- MEET THE HOUSE! -----
Lamps and weird knick-knacks dwelling with antique furniture and cosy sofas, torn tapestries, crooked hardwood floors and squeaking steps and doors makes all the charm and the warmth of the place. Built in the end of 19th century, The house has been preserved from aging, but in respect of its past, which makes the place very "storytelling"...
Amongst many vocations this place had, we keep artefacts from a past Chinese food restaurant and a retro women's clothes shop. Other non house-related artefacts fill the house. Discover all this while coming to our place in Montreal. And ask one of your hosts to translate what the walls and objects don't tell clearly to everyone...

What a fantastic place! The location is amazing, with interesting people staying in other rooms to meet in the common area. The hosts were great with communication and were kind enough to be flexible with scheduling. Would definitely stay here again.

I have only had positive experiences with AirBnB apart from this one. The photos of the bedroom greatly exaggerate the actual state of the room. In reality, the "Huge & Comfy NYC-style Loft" is very dark, musty, with little to no air circulation. The floor is very slanted with missing floorboards and hanging electrical wires. The room felt 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the house and was difficult to sleep in, even with the fans. There is a tiny window close to the ceiling with bars around it. There are also pad locks on the doors that seem easy to rip out. The hosts do not live there. It has more of a hostel vibe than a "home" atmosphere.
Had we known the what the room really looked and felt like, there's no way we would have rented it. To top it off I woke up with a piece of chewing gum on my leg - neither myself or my boyfriend chew gum. As for the neighbourhood - I would feel nervous walking here by myself at night.
The positive: Check-in was easy and Michael was friendly. Also, the living area was a nice space to hang out in. The kitchen and bathroom were clean too.
For the future, I feel the hosts should provide more honest photos of the room rather than these over-the-top glamorous photos.
Overall good experience for the price we paid.
It was definitely a nice experience, the decor made seem like being in a 40's film. The shared living room and kitchen are really nice, the bathroom was clean and the room was very cosy. And it was very central.
First time ever I comment something. So read this !
La Baraque is the place to be in Montréal. We really enjoyed our stay, we even took one more week to spend more time here. The location is great, Michael is really kind and you can count on him for anything. Moreover, the roomies are great, we enjoyed our stay with these new friends of ours, from France, Canada, Switzerland, and Czech Republic. A lot of people with different stories, cultures, dreams, which are inspiring and also great to know. We wished to have more time to spend with them, because that always would have been a real good time shared.
We never lived with roomates before. We are a couple that likes to be alone, in our privacy et caetera.. But that experience changed our mind : We can have time for us, our privacy, and friends, parties, at the same place. (still, I do not know if it would be the same out there.)
So, it's a special place, and we want to add that you can not be disappointed by the apartment. It's vintage, it has a spirit. Aaaand yes : that's huge and comfy. Everything is clean, tidy, and beds are perfect.
This is a unique place.

This place is really cool given you understand that you're pretty much getting what you pay for. It is one big room with a double bed and then they add mattresses on demand. The vibe of the place is quite cool and the people who live there were friendly.
It's perfect for a boys weekend but nothing more I believe. Definitely not for families.
Close to the metro and many activities.
Would stay there again. Considering value for money, it's ideal.
I had a fabulous stay at Last Baroque. A really good crew live there and create a homely and fun atmosphere. My room was bigger than a lot of my apartments in Melbourne but somehow the bar heater managed to keep the room toasty (website hidden) Catherine St is right in the mix and I pretty much walked everywhere. There is even a supermarket across the street. Don't tell too many of your friends though as otherwise I won't be able to stay there next time!
