About this listing
Open plan, spacious, light loft for 3 guests. Very quiet, double bedroom under. Separate single bedroom. Located in must-see Battery Point in walking distance to most Hobart interest points. Parking in the street or over driveway. Airport shuttle.
Attention winter guests: The wood heater you see in the pictures is decommissioned - but it still looks good... More about heating below.
Our loft is one large, rustic, open space with it's own entrance (ex plumber's workshop). No internal doors anywhere (bathroom excepted). Three levels. VERY quiet downstairs double bedroom, a European style double bed with quality mattresses, pillows and doonas (=duvets).
Raised mezzanine platform over the main space for a bit of out-of-the-way sitting (no beds there; too noisy in frequent high winds, too bright, too small for a double bed - sorry!).
Most walls in the loft and in the small overflow bedroom are lime-washed for healthy internal climate.
Kitchen! Council regulations preclude us from having a full kitchen. But we are allowed to provide a "food preparation area" with an inverter microwave, one induction hot plate, a toaster, a kettle and a bar fridge/freezer (see photos). All a bit Monty Python, but so be it. This, together with a range of useful electric appliances in the not prohibited category, various coffee makers, egg boiler/frier/poacher and filtered drinking water will help you prepare quite a range of foods.
There is an efficient heat pump in the loft and a panel heater in the bedroom.
All linen and towels provided (we don't use chemical fabric softeners, nor do we iron bed linen or towels - a bit rustic ;-).
Hand- and shower soap and shampoo/conditioner are provided.
Electric blankets installed in all beds (during the cold season). Extra doonas in the cupboards of both sleeping spaces.
Simply, creatively furnished. A touch rustic.
Water glimpses and pleasant garden views.
There is also a separate, small, comfortable overflow bedroom five steps under cover from the loft entrance. The room has a 1.4m x 2m double bed with a new inner spring mattress and quality bedding. The overflow bedroom is there to take an extra person.
This overflow bedroom can also be used if one in a party of two people wants to sleep in a separate bedroom. But you need to agree in advance to an extra fee of $20/night if one person in a party of two wants to use this option.
There is guaranteed free car parking in the close vicinity or right in front of the loft. This is how it works: If regular un-timed (free) parking spots in the street are occupied you can then legally park over the driveway that leads straight down to the loft.
Interaction with Guests
We leave you alone, once you have moved in. But we are also happy to help with ideas for sight seeing and activities and solve any problems that might occur during your stay.
Deutsch, Français, Italiano spoken. Welcome!
The loft is in Battery Point, as close as you can get to most of the action in Hobart. Battery Point retains a village atmosphere and is part of the must-see areas of Tasmania.
10 pleasant minutes walk through quaint Battery Point, without crossing any large roads takes you to Salamanca Market, a fine supermarket, a quality deli, countless eateries, the harbour (Mona ferry/bus terminal) and the spectacular, re-opened Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG). Add another 5 minutes to the Hobart CBD.
Acclaimed cafés, pubs, ethnic eateries and bakery nearby at 5 min walk. Coles / Woolworth 8-10 mins walk in the opposite direction (Sandy Bay), using the fitness promoting ;-) steps of Nanny Goat Lane.
Using a public bus is a science to itself ...
Walking is the preferred and most enjoyable way of getting around Battery Point and the inner city.
Other Things to Note
MONA is closed on Tuesdays.
No smoking anywhere on the premises please, as smoke penetrates into our house, even if you smoke outside (you will see why, when you are here). ---
Not suitable for young children (staircases, not enough garden). ---
No parties please. ---
Please air the whole loft regularly and generously, but keep the windows closed when you are out (weather changes). ---
We recommend that you sleep with the (louvre) window open or at least give the bedroom a generous airflow through minimum once a day. ---
Please use bathroom fan and range hood fan generously and every time you use the facilities. ---
Please be very mindful about the use of your personal perfume. Avoid leaving traces on beds, upholstery or other, hard-to-clean surfaces. Modern perfumes can be extremely persistent and leave strong scents for months or years. ---
The wood heater is burned out and cannot be used (but still looks good). There is an efficient electric heat pump in the main space upstairs and a 2kW panel heater in the bedroom. ---
Please use the airbnb system for all email correspondence (keeps systematic records both for you and us) and do not use our personal email address for airbnb communications. ---
Car parking: There is guaranteed free car parking in the close vicinity or right in front of the loft. This is how it works: If regular un-timed (free) parking spots in the street are occupied you can then legally park over the driveway that leads straight down to the loft. You will find that the un-timed parking spaces become available after business hours. ---
We provide some instant coffee, various teas and sugar at the start of your stay. After that you are on your own - composing your preferred diet to your heart's content. If you would like to find some milk in the fridge upon your arrival, please indicate that before you come. ---
And finally: If you find something doesn't work, please make us aware so we can fix it. We are keen to hear from you directly rather than via your star rating. ---
Welcome, and have a nice time!
We had great weekend staying in Hobart in heart of Battery Point. Our hosts were very friendly and were able to help us out if we had any queries. I'd highly recommend anyone to stay at this lovely little loft.
Had a lovely time in Hobart and Megan was a most fabulous host! Would recommend the lovely loft to anyone wanting a visit to Hobart! Thank You!
The place was great and exactly as described. It is ideally located to take advantage of Battrry Point, Salamanca, the MONA ferry, and the CBD. The hosts were very responsive to our inquiries and had lots of information and suggestions on what to do in Hobart. We loved it.
What a wonderful winter stay we had here ! It was both our first time in Hobart and having Peters place as a base made the stay ever more perfect as a first time experience. The place is full of natural light and spacious, there is a little upstairs space which is a perfect chill out zone. The heating keeps the place very warm and cosy. There isn't a full kitchen but we found that we were out exploring a lot we didn't require it. There is a hot plate to use if required . The shower head provided good strong flow of water so a warm shower after a cold day out was perfect. There is plenty of brochures in the home and cafes in the area is a 5 min walk away and 20 min walk to get the MONA ferry. I recommend anyone staying in Hobart to stay here !! Nothing to fault! Peter was so lovely to call back while in Europe to answer a silly question - thank you again for everything !
We had minimal face to face contact with our host. Everything important was taken care of through electronic correspondence and this was totally fine.
Peter and Lesley's 'Central, rustic and airy Hobart apartment' was everything we were expecting, and more. Our host, Megan, was very welcoming and hospitable. The position was excellent and we had no need for a car to access central Hobart attractions. The loft apartment was light and spacious with great views. We would definitely stay here again.
This was a lovely place to stay and its location was perfect - right in the heart of the beautiful Battery Point. The loft was cosy and beautifully presented, with everything that's needed for an enjoyable and hassle-free stay. We'll be back!

We extensively travel internationally, photo-documenting liveable, built environments to present back to Tasmania and keep urging planning decision makers to implement internationally successful liveability infrastructure in Tasmania.
Our mode of travel is by self-built camper, public transport, city and country walking, cycling and kayaking, a bit of art and culture and meeting people.
Our friend, Megan, is sometimes standing in for us when we need a break. Among other things she is a nurse and an outdoor enthusiast.
We like the idea of being able to offer our loft to travellers.
