About this listing
For the dates from October 1st through October 16th, there is a minimum stay of seven nights.
If you are looking for an incredibly peaceful and healing retreat where you can experience a sustainable community vibe and go home feeling completely revitalized, then Banyan Tree Sanctuary is your destination. Overlooking the Kailua Kona coast, you are on sacred grounds and in close proximity to a large lava tube known as the Great Mother Cave, perfect for meditation and ceremony.
We are a vacation rental/retreat center, located fifteen minutes northeast of the town of Kailua Kona. We have several unique spaces, some with shared baths and some with private baths. Our accommodations range from simple 'glamping' (glamorous camping) to beautiful rooms with their own private bath, kitchen, and exquisite west facing views of the ocean and sunsets. The Hawaii accommodations taxes are included in the price of the rooms.
The Kahuna Room is a very reasonably priced accommodation, easily accessible on the first floor. There is a queen bed and a twin bed made up like a couch, but easily converted into a second bed for two people traveling together who each want their own bed. There is a sliding glass door entrance off the driveway as well as a door off the hallway. There is a private bathroom a few steps down the hall. There is a shared community kitchen. Because there is a second bed in the Kahuna Room, we allow three people to stay in the room. The extra charge is $30 per night.
We are a vegan community, and we ask that while you stay here, your diet consists of all plant-based foods; fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds and sprouts. We are also a NO SMOKING facility.
There is a salt charged pool, (no chlorine) an ozonated Jacuzzi, and an infrared sauna available for all guests, and property-wide wifi. There is also a 30' diameter dodecahedron we call the Mother Ship, which you can use for yoga, meditation, or just hanging out. It also has a flat screen TV and a great DVD collection (and subscriptions to Netflix streaming and Amazon Prime).
We encourage you to look at the photos and inquire about any questions you may have. Guests staying with us for two weeks get one night free.
The closest beaches are a 15 minute drive from our door, and are in the boat harbor area. One is a very nice snorkel beach, especially in the morning. The other is a turtle sanctuary with a broad expanse of white sand. One of the top ten beaches on the Big Island is only a 25 minute drive from our door, and that is Kua Bay, about 4 miles north of the airport. We have a supply of snorkels, masks, and boogie boards that you are free to use on a first come, first serve basis.
We provide various healing modalities; massage therapy, meditation, dietary guidelines, etc. and we can set up your dolphin tour/manta ray night dive experience as well. We are long-time residents of the Big Island and know many special places that we can direct you to. We strongly encourage renting a car, as these beaches are not within walking distance.
We welcome children twelve years of age or older.
Come to Banyan Tree Sanctuary to experience a unique level of peacefulness on your next Hawaiian vacation!
Everything on the property is available, most at no extra cost.
The only things that are extra are the massages, prepared smoothies and other food items, and the organic vegetables from the garden.
There is no washer/dryer service on property grounds.
Interaction with Guests
We try our best and are usually present for our guests' check in. We offer as little or as much interaction as our guests would like.
This is an exceptionally beautiful part of the Kona side of the island, it is actually called Kona Heavens! We are in a very quiet and peaceful neighborhood and we are the very last house on a dead end road, so we truly are a sanctuary. There are wonderful places to stroll right out of your door, and it is a very safe neighborhood.
There is no public transportation, so please plan on renting a car.
Other Things to Note
At 1100', we are a little cooler than downtown, and get more rain, so bring an extra sweater and a poncho/umbrella. There is always sun to be found somewhere on the island, but it may not be right here. A headlamp/flashlight is also a good idea, although we have extras if you forget yours. Also a sturdy pair of shoes to walk on the paths is a great idea.
We are a small group of people sharing a very special and unique property on the Big Island of Hawaii. Since some of the areas are shared; i.e. the main kitchen, the dining area and some living areas, we ask that you respect any and all common areas and pick up after yourself. This includes, but is not restricted to: wet towels, shoes, backpack, laptops and other electronic devices, clothes, etc. Certain areas are available on a simple reservation basis, such as the Mother Ship, by putting your name and time of requested use on a little whiteboard by the door.
We are a vegan community, and we ask that while you stay here, you refrain from cooking or eating any animal products, which include beef, lamb, chicken, fish, turkey or pork products, including any type of bacon; all forms of dairy (milk, half and half, butter, yogurt, cheese) and eggs. We are also a NO SMOKING facility, so we ask that you please do not smoke in any part of Banyan Tree or on the grounds.
We have quiet time from 9pm to 8am, which means you are welcome to use the jacuzzi, pool, or common spaces after 9pm, as long as you are respectful and quiet in your movements. Although there is no requirement to do so, if you feel moved to spend some time in the gardens watering or weeding, we always welcome that kind of energy.
I am the business manager of a beautiful piece of property in Kailua Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii, called Banyan Tree Sanctuary. I have traveled extensively in the US, and have spent time in every single state except for Alaska. I have also been to Canada, New Zealand and Fiji.
I am a compassionate vegan, and have been a massage therapist for over 30 years. I am a very strong advocate for compassion to all living things, and so choose not to inflict any suffering regarding my diet and lifestyle. Living on this property allows me to eat fresh ripe raw organic fruits and vegetables every single day, and I am incredibly grateful for that. To be able to go out in the morning and find ripe papayas, lilikoi, mango, and so much more, is a true gift. I am also a musician (percussion) and singer/songwriter. We have some drums and guitars at Banyan Tree Sanctuary, and our guests are always welcome to play these and join with any of our classes and events.
My motto is simple: love everyone, and do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Life is way too short to spend any time doing anything else!
This property is very special, and even with professional pictures, you can't get the full impact of this place without actually staying here. We currently have seven spaces available, from rooms on the first floor to a deluxe, complete suite with it's own private kitchen area, bathroom and lanai. We look forward to having you as our guests!
