The Kahuna Room is a very reasonably priced accommodation easily accessible on the first floor, that is part of a healing sanctuary called Banyan Tree, located on the lower slope of the Hualalai Volcano at 1100' elevation. There is a queen sized bed and a bamboo couch and coffee table in the room. There is a sliding glass door entrance off the driveway as well as a door off the hallway. You will share a full sized bathroom with one other guest, and have total use of the community kitchen as well as the spa facilities.
We are a vegetarian community, and we ask that while you stay here, you refrain from cooking any beef, lamb, chicken, turkey, fish or pork products, including any type of bacon. We are also a NO SMOKING facility, so we ask that you please do not smoke in any part of Banyan Tree or on the grounds.
Access to our salt-charged pool and ozonated Jacuzzi with dozens of jets, is mere steps away. There is no chlorine used in any of our water facilities. We also have an infra-red sauna if you really want to sweat! There is a water filter that creates alkaline water, the healthiest water that you can drink.
We are on 3.2 acres of beautiful land, at an 1100' elevation, and comfortable year-round temperatures of 65-85 degrees.
We encourage you to look at the photos and inquire about any questions that you may have. Guests staying with us for two weeks get one free night's stay. Guests pay the Hawaii vacation tax of 13.42% upon arrival, preferably in cash. Once the booking is made I will send you an email with that information.
The closest beaches are 10 minutes drive from our door, and are in the yacht harbor area. One is a very nice snorkel beach, the other is a turtle sanctuary with a broad expanse of white sand. One of the top ten beaches on the Big Island is only a 25 minute drive from our door, and that is Kua Bay, about 3 miles north of the airport. We have a limited supply of snorkels, masks, and boogie boards that you are free to use on a first come, first serve basis. We ask that you rinse off the equipment with fresh water when you return from the beach, and if there are several guests staying here at the same time, to give everyone a chance to use the equipment.
We provide various healing modalities; massage, yoga, dietary guidelines, etc. and we can set up your dolphin tour experience/manta ray night dive as well. We are long-time residents of the Big Island and know many special places that we can direct you to. We are only a 20 minute drive to the airport. We strongly encourage renting a car, as we are quite remote from any stores or beaches, and you would need to drive to get to those locations.
Because we are a healing sanctuary and retreat space, and many people come to us for the peace, quiet, healing and tranquility that we are able to offer our guests, we have chosen to limit the ages of children that visit us to 12 years or older. We are simply not set up to accommodate families with younger children, and we apologize for that.
Come to Banyan Tree Sanctuary to experience a different level of peacefulness on your next Hawaiian vacation!
The entire property and the pool Jacuzzi, sauna, Mother Ship; and with some guidance, areas beyond our property, such as the lava cave and enchanted forest.
As little or as much as our guests like.
There is no public transportation, so please plan on renting a car.
Raybo's place is truly amazing. It's that perfect combination of character, relaxed atmosphere and luxury with pool and jacuzzi! We wish that we could have stayed longer and would not hesitate to return. Everything was immaculately clean. A very quiet place to relax!
Raybo was a great host, super helpful (thanks for helping organise the dive with the manta rays!)
The room was clean. The property was gorgeous! The pool and hot tub were superb. Raybo and Ben and the other staff were all very kind and welcoming. We had a great stay. One thing to note is that you cannot cook meat in the shared kitchen. If that's a problem for you then stay somewhere else. Other than that it was a pleasant stay.
We enjoyed our stay at the beautiful Banyan Tree Sanctuary a lot!! The sunset is outstanding, the fresh fruits and veggies are delicious, the room is cozy and clean, it is close to the airport and Kona, the people are lovely and delightful. We can highly recommend this wonderful and peaceful place!!! We really want to come back one day.
What a wonderful place to stay. I wish I was not working as I would have liked to explore the grounds more. I left work on time each day to run back and enjoy the jacuzzi, pool and peaceful surroundings.
The people I met were very nice. Raybo was especially helpful and Ben even sang me a song accompanied by his guitar. In addition to the space, there was organic papaya, lilikoi and avacados to eat.
The room was large, nicely decorated with it's own entrance if needed. The bathroom was shared but there was never a problem and it is kept very clean. The community area and kitchen are open on one side so it is as if you are outside, yet not. Even the animals were noce - two cats that mainly keep to themselves. I even was able to get a geko to eat from my finger.
I can't wait to get back to Kona.
We arrived late from afternoon adventures and a long drive across the island. Raybo was waiting graciously and greeted us warmly.
After a very hot hot tub, we floated to sleep in our comfy bed.
The place is really peaceful with an organic garden, open kitchen and chill area, mother ship and graceful hosts. The healers of this retreat are gifted and following life's path with open hearts and willing to share what they know. We shared a treatment of inversion therapy with Benjamin called AcroSage, had a restorative yoga class before our flight home and came home extra relaxed and rejuvenated.
Close to great beaches, airport and town centre.
Thanks to the Banyan Tree staff. Hope to see you soon.

Don't come here expecting anything fancy but if you're looking for a peaceful stay, this is the place for you! The space is huge and it's in a nice area up in the mountains. Bring your own toiletries!
The Banyan Tree Sanctuary is a unique and wonderful place. It is away from the very touristy Kona coast section . . . and refreshingly cooler as well. It is a short drive to the heart of town.
Their property offers lovely fruits - delicious, organic papaya, bananas, avocados, sapotes, and much more in early summer. The veggies in their garden were delicious. I watched them tend to their gardens with love and caring. They are the same with their guests. I tried Acrosage with Benjamin and he healed my aching neck. It was a very positive experience. Raybo, Amiracle and Benjamin are special and wonderful hosts. I left feeling nurtured and happy.
Everything in the (website hidden) was good stay.
Big tree,swing,pool,gekko..spent relax time
Raybo and staffs are nice people.
My wife and I immensely enjoyed our stay at the Banyan Tree Sanctuary. The grounds were beautiful and well kept... lots of fruits, vegetable, and flowers. The suite that we stayed in and all the common areas were clean and really cool looking. It was a place that we felt comfortable to relax and enjoy.
They have a very nice large room (The Mother Ship) that we were allowed to reserve to entertain some guests. We all enjoyed our stay there and found Raybo to be very accommodating and friendly. Benjamin and Amiracle were very friendly hosts as well.
If you are looking for a quite beautiful place to relax we would highly recommend booking at the Banyan Tree Sanctuary. We know if we can arrange another getaway in Kona we will be booking there again.
