Doggies Welcome! Completely fenced-in yard, within walking distance to a lovely dog park and nature preserve.

NOTE: Floor-to-ceiling draperies have been installed to assure total privacy!

If you like peace and privacy, this is the place for you. Come and go as you please at any hour of the day or night without the fear of disturbing us, as you have your own entrance and do not go through the main house at all. Enjoy this fabulous super sunny master bedroom studio, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on huge fenced tiled patio with fruit trees and gardens. I am most welcoming, yet unobtrusive, so that you will find this to be a comfortable oasis. Of course, I am reachable for any questions, advice, requests or needs.

You will enter through a front gate, walk down the adobe paver path lit with motion-sensor spots, through the heirloom roses, which are highly scented when in bloom. No need to go through the main house, as the studio is completely separate from the rest of the main house, (although attached by one wall.) Note: the main house may also have guests during your stay. Entrance is separate as is the space - the only potentially shared area is the back patio.

Super-private and very quiet, except for the birds, yet centrally located; five minutes to downtown Monterey, Laguna Seca Raceway or CSUMB and ten minutes to Monterey Bay Aquarium. There is a 24-hour Safeway and Walgreens just 2 minutes away, in case you have any midnight cravings! Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are 10 minutes away,

We are located in a wonderful little sun belt, perched high upon a hilltop with a nice view of Monterey Bay in a very quiet residential neighborhood, so typically we are above any fog – especially during the summer season when the rest of the Monterey Peninsula could be socked-in! We are at the top of a street which ends in a culdesac so there is not a lot of through traffic and super-easy street parking right in front of the house.

Freshly painted in a soothing palette and tastefully furnished, the studio is comprised of large sunny master bedroom with hardwood floors and your own private updated Travertine marble bathroom (shower - no tub) supplied with fluffy towels, hairdryer and high-quality toiletries. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer a view of patio, creating a sunny and bright ambiance. A closet with excellent storage, dimmer switch for the overhead chandelier, a writing table and small flatscreen TV with remote control plus wi-fi make your stay complete.

The studio is heated through vents by a gas forced-air furnace, (controlled by the thermostat located in the main house) and if you need extra heat, there are more blankets plus a space heater in the closet for your total comfort. It rarely gets that cold here, but if we do get a cold snap in Jan or Feb I want you to be totally comfortable!

Sleep peacefully in the Queen-sized bed outfitted with 100% cotton linens (line dried when possible) and cozy blankets, then enjoy breakfast outside on the patio when weather permits. Our guests have raved about the bed! For an extra guest, there is a brand new single folding memory foam mattress bed.

The kitchenette/breakfast bar includes a new microwave, toaster oven and a coffeemaker for exceptional (really!) locally roasted FairTrade organic coffee, a selection of teas, honey, granola and homemade organic jam. In the under-the-counter fridge, you'll find organic yogurt and organic cream for coffee; it also has a separate freezer compartment with ice trays (not inside of the fridge), big enough for frozen foods and ice cream.

Access is through the large fenced-in beautiful, sunny patio in the backyard, filled with organic raised bed vegetable gardens which change seasonally, fruit trees and roses. This is a great location, centrally located between Highway One and Highway 68, near the rec trail, Frog Pond, beaches and terrific hills for a morning or evening stroll. No smoking inside – okay on patio. Dogs allowed with extra charge of $25. per pet per stay (not per night.)

A sophisticated foodie and twenty-year resident of the Monterey Peninsula, I am a great resource of information if needed. Also, the studio is also equipped with lots of books on the area and a binder with menus from my favorite restaurants, brochures and information on local attractions. There is a great brand new fully equipped gym 2 minutes away for those who want to get their workout in. All visits come with a free pass to one of our local wine tasting rooms! Organic vegetable gardening classes are available as well as private custom designed tours of the Monterey Peninsula, depending upon your interests. If you need restaurant recommendations prior to arrival, I am happy to assist.

If your party is larger than two (i.e. a 3rd person, or a child) please contact us in advance to discuss arrangements, we can arrange for a crib (extra fee) and extra linens in the closet prior to your arrival. You may also want to check out our other listing for more room.

Rates may be slightly higher during major events and a 2 night-minimum may be required during major tourist events, including AT&T Pro-Am, Concours d'Elegance, US Open, etc. Feel free to contact me to make me an offer for last-minute booking at a reduced rate if you see the calendar open! If I can make it work, I will.

I live in the main house part-time with two kitties. If you suffer from pet allergies you should know that the cats do roam the yard from time to time but are never permitted in the studio. Though we do clean the studio thoroughly between guests, you should be aware that we are a pet-friendly property. I use scent-free laundry detergent on all of the towels and linens and line-dry the sheets when ever possible.

  • What a great place! Comfortable, clean, and an extremely gracious host! Helaine's studio is just off a beautiful garden, quiet and serene. She provides a very in-depth notebook that has many great local tips for food and entertainment. Perfect place for anyone, but especially great if you're bringing a pup with you.

  • This was a great stay! Very quiet, cozy, and just what we were looking for. The studio is in the back of Helaine's house (totally separate), and you feel very safe. Helaine was great in asking what we needed. Great bed, great shower, and warm studio (it gets cold in Monterey at night, and there is a heater to keep you cozy after a long day of walking!) I would highly recommend this, and we will be coming back to stay when we venture back to Monterey/Carmel area! Also, very close in proximity to Monterey shops and Carmel.

  • Very relaxing and good sized space. My husband and I enjoyed a picnic in the garden with a bottle of wine the first night. Airport noise is noticeable but not annoying. Queen Bed could have been more padded and less irritating (noise) but the sheets and blankets were nice and soft. Squeaking noise every time I turned over but considering both of us are 6ft plus it is a lot to ask. Great location to stay for easy access to everything Monterey. Helaine was a very attentive, sweet and gracious host. Yogurt/granola in the morning and provided extra cream for my coffee. I would stay again if it was just me in the queen bed (maybe bring an extra pad and leave my snoring husband at home!)

  • This is the perfect spot for a relaxing weekend in Monterey.

    April 2014
  • The place was better than described and everything was exactly where it was. Helaine was a great host and provided everything we needed, including recommendations to places to visit and some coupons as well.
    Thanks for letting us stay.

  • Lovely little studio + garden. She also has the sweetest long hair brown cat that we got to play with in the garden. Definitely a great spot for seeing monterrey/carmel/big sur. Great hosting too!

  • Excellent host! Was very attentive and communicated through text. Even asked to check if we needed more coffee! The studio was very cozy and had everything that we needed during our stay. Great airbnb experience.

  • Helanie's studio was a great little spot for our overnight in Monterey. She had everything we needed and was very communicative and made it easy for us to feel like we were taken care of. We really enjoyed breakfast in her unique garden in front of the studio. Thank you Helaine!

thanks for being a cool guest!

  • I stayed at Helaine's studio with my dog and fiance for three days and it was just perfect. It's a lovely space, cozy and well-furnished. It's about a five minute drive out of the city, so we used it as a base from which to explore the Monterey and Carmel areas. We also walked the dog around her quiet neighborhood and the neighboring park which were both very nice. Highly recommended!

  • helaine's studio is delicious! a wonderful bed, great bathroom/shower, hardwood floor, excellent coffee & other goodies all looking out to a courtyard with raised beds containing a variety of edibles the guest is welcome to plus.....the neighborhood is excellent & a community park with an off leash doggie area a few blocks away.

helaine is very helpful and friendly. i would return in a heartbeat!
