I had a wonderful time! Martina has a beautiful home and is so welcoming and generous. I was sad to leave! I can only recommend!
Staying at Martina's has been my favorite airbnb experience so far!
The house is lovely, very clean and it is located in a very safe neighborhood.
But Martina's warm presence is what made my stay even better. She is an amazing lady and went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed. When I arrived my feet were in very bad shape for having walked in sandals all day, and she was so kind and lent me a pair of her sneakers for the rest of my stay. She really enjoys being a host, and I really loved that! Her husband Michael and daughter Dylan are also very special folks. I would totally stay with them again!
Many thanks, dear Martina!
Martina was a fantastic host! Her home is warm and spacious. I stayed in the Spacious European Room w/ Balcony and it was very clean and cozy. I slept well every night and was never disturbed by the rest of the house. I would highly recommend staying at Martina's.
Martina's home was so beautiful and full of life. A real home that was built by her family. Each and every piece of art work and furniture was picked by them or made with their family in mind. Such a warm environment staying with them, that you feel like part of the family. A true home away from home experience and their coffee is so awesome!
Martina and her family were lovely host! My stay wasn't in the 'Spacious European Room', it was in the 'Barn Style Room w/ A View'. The view was absolutely lovely, with a sizable balcony. And the room was very comfortable. I shared a bathroom with the woman in the room across form me which worked out well. The curtain that acted as a door was a bit interesting though.
I stayed with Martina and her family for a whole week, but didn't get a chance to chat with them as much as I would've liked due to my crazy schedule. They were all very sweet and extremely welcoming! I can't wait wait to see that view again! xx
Staying at Martina's place was a lovely way to reenter the Bay area after being away several months. I felt welcomed and comfortable in this quiet, peaceful, colorful space: enjoyed the freedom of using the kitchen for cooking, planting myself at the community table to work, and the opportunity to have interesting and inspiring conversations with friendly people. I left feeling rested and energized!
What a magical space! If you are a fan of the east bay you will love the Emeryville location & the bonus of the ocean breezes blowing into the 2nd floor balcony. The house has delightfully high ceilings and beautifully finished woodwork that was "a labor of love". The Hostess is eager to accommodate all of her guests and is flexible with arrival & departure times. Understandably many happy souls extend their stays and Ms. M graciously finds them a nook (the 3rd story also has a balcony...maybe my next visit will find me there). As a bonus you can't beat the many cafes, bakeries and of course Berkeley Bowl West (just peruse Yelp for your options). In all my years of traveling to the bay area this is the perfect spot to nest whether traveling for business or pleasure.

Enjoy the tranquility of a custom build trophy home with a large sun deck on the third floor, two balconies and a sweet garden with a barbecue deck and native California plants. We lavish in guests who are on a mission with their lives yet have time to stop to chat. I love to lavish in the classics and we own books i.e. as The Grapes of Wrath, Crime and Punishment, Anna Karenina, Moby Dick, My Travels with Charley, Oliver Twist, Main Street, and more. We subscribe to the New Yorker. We have boatloads of friends in a wonderful community and prefer guests who are flexible in their room choices. I will always take your wish into consideration yet due to logistics I can not always adhere to my promises. This is to guarantee prices under market value. For the special busy budget traveller we keep our linen room as an overnight possibility. Please inquire about it if you are traveling with only "overhead" baggage. Please keep your showers short and dry your feet before you step out of the tub. Please look at all your lights in the room when you leave so that you turn them off. We keep fantastic Peet's coffee and a drip filter around. Also fresh fruit, cereal, orange juice is for you to enjoy.
Thanks for your enthusiasm,
Free local bus i.e. McArthur Transfer station with Emery-Go-Around sponsored by Pixar to Bart/Metro, easy access to downtown San Francisco as well as Berkeley and Oakland. The 49 leaves from San Pablo and Dwight to UC Berkeley.
We travel a lot and enjoy times away trekking and camping. Often on extended stays in Europe. So if we do not get back to you right away it is because we are beyond WIFI. We are also very health conscious and therefore keep shoes off in the house and wash our hands often especially every time we enter the house to keep germs at bay.
A piano and a full kitchen (place your food in brown bags and mark your items w black marker you will find in the drawer under the gray donation box) . Our kitchen is mostly crystal clean and ready for you to use. There is a small bathroom off the living room and extra supplies behind the door to the left. We are wireless, cook mostly organic foods and grocery at the award winning store Berkeley Bowl West and at our local Farmer's Markets. We live sustainably, dry our laundry on a line in the garden, separate compost (right to kitchen sink), place recyclables into big green bin right to fridge and trash into a brown paper bag. The compost can go outside the garden gate into the big green bin and to the right of out parking pad you find a huge gray bin for recyclables and a deep red colored one for the trash.
Please let me know when you need to have your laundry washed, I will do it for you (place $6 per load into the gray box).
Always contact us before you come so we can get ready for you and can make arrangements to have someone open the garden gate. Check in time 3 pm and check-out time 12 noon.
