We had a wonderful time at Kealakekua Bay. We enjoyed the open balistyled cottage very much - it is something special and adventurous - unforgettable! We liked the sound of the ocean and the closeness to nature. It is the perfect place to go swimming with the dolphins and to explore the bay by SUP or kayak. Karen was a very friendly and attentive host. When ever coming back to Kealakekua Bay, this is definitively our place to stay again. But if you look for a standard hotelroom... this is not your place. This is a real alternative gem! Thanks a lot to Karen - Mahalo, Andrea & Christoph
Our wonderful experience at the Bali Cottage, was beyond what my wife and I ever could have imagined. From the outdoor shower to the best sleep we have ever had, anywhere! Karen was very welcoming, genuine, and very resectful of our privacy. She responded to our questions/requests promptly before and during our stay. We enjoyed our many conversations with her as well. She and her husband have mantained this place and the tropical garden/yard beautifully. The location is perfect for traversing the island. Manini beach is wonderful, and extremely close. If you rent an kayak make sure you rent from a legal company. Don't let illegal rental companies/"people with kayaks" overtake this wonderful seaside neighborhood. We had no problems with mongoose, cleanliness, or amenities. Everything was top notch. There are beach chairs, snorkel equipment, a cooler, beach towels, bug spray/candles, etc. Lastly, this place is not for everyone, but those who are open for an unforgettable and true Hawaiian experience this is the place for you. Thanks again Karen, we will see you soon.
Karen and Ron have an amazing cottage! This is truly one of the most unique and special experiences that my husband and I have ever had, and we will remember it forever! Karen was very accommodating, and everything is available and easy to use. We would definitely recommend this wonderful cottage for anyone looking to make amazing memories!
The location of this place is wonderful, only a short walk to the beach where one can go kayaking, snorkling, and/or swimming!Although we expected to stay in a place that was outdoor/indoor, the amenities were not quite up to our expectations. The place was not cleaned as much as we would have liked (dead mosquitoes on the lampshades, gecko feces on the mosquito net for the bed, bugs in the sink and brown sugar). Furthermore, the yard is semi unkempt and home to many mongooses.
"Aloha ----. We are so saddened to hear that your stay out our Bali Cottage did not meet your expectations. Though we have not received any prior complaints or negative reviews prior to yours, in fact only raving reviews, we thank you for your honesty. Because of Hawaii's lush and green nature, it does tend to breed life, including some bugs, geckos and spiders. We're afraid we would need to take away it's open nature charm, in order to shut them all out. Prior guests have not mentioned any problem with this, but because of your review we will try to be careful to have extra bug protection/spray and candles for our guests.
We loved staying at the Bali Cottage. Calling it well decorated or unique is an understatement! This listing has the biggest "wow factor" of any place we've visited on airbnb thus far. The outdoor kitchen is so fun to use, not to mention the outdoor shower. The bed is comfortable and the grounds are gorgeous. Just a short walk to the ocean and near a lot of exotic wildlife! Our host Karen greeted us upon arrival and was available to answer questions and chat with us. This cottage is a must!
We arrived an hour early, but Karen and Ron made us feel very welcome. The cottage is wonderfully quirky and very spacious. There is a spot where you can swim very close by, and from there views across the bay to the Captain Cook monument. We hired a kayak from a local operator and paddled over (about half an hour each way). Very quiet restful spot, with lots to do nearby. Would happily stay here again.
What a great experience! The Bali Cottage is awesome! Not only is it a great experience, but our hosts Karen & Ron went out of their way to make us feel like special guests. While the neighborhood is a bit remote, it is nestled on beautiful Kealakekua Bay. It is several minutes drive to restaurants and conveniences, but bring some groceries and live the fantasy of island life...no job, no commute, no stress! The Cottage is beautifully decorated with imported items and provides a mellow, rustic experience. (The outdoor private shower is great!) All in all, the Bali Cottage provided us memories for the rest of our lives. Thank you Karen & Ron!
