Karen's Bali cottage is an incredible, unique, beautiful place! She goes above and beyond for her guests. My partner and I spent one night there and we wish we had booked more. A small beach is a stones throw away. Sounds of the ocean and frogs will lull you to sleep :) perfect for travelers wanting a secluded getaway close to nature and away from crowds. Thank you, Karen, for your hospitality!

Our stay at the Bali Cottage was one of the highlights of our trip to the Big Island. I think it was even more interesting in person than the pictures showed. Karen is an exceptional host who went out of her way to make us comfortable and show us around the area. The cottage itself is *right* on the bay. You can see it when you park your car, and you can hear the waves from inside the cottage. There's private beach access a block away, where we enjoyed an early morning snorkel. As with most of this area, the beach access is very rocky, but with a small sort of sandy area, where kids could play in the water. There's also a nice grassy area with picnic tables and shade. Grab food on your way in - the cottage is at least 20 minutes from any restaurants or grocery stores. We went to the store and bought some food to cook in the outdoor kitchen (which is very well equipped!). We honestly really enjoyed cooking there, with the breeze from the ocean, and the waves lapping in the background. We highly recommend the cottage.

Bali Cottage is a paradise within paradise. If you are looking to stay in surroundings as beautiful as the Hawaiian landscape this is the place you crave. It is exquisite, every corner, every piece in the place,, is thoughtfully chosen and perfectly placed. The kitchen while outdoor is gourmet right down to the Belgian waffle maker, Kona coffee and coffee grinder. The cottage changes as light streams thru the hand carved teak panels and you can appreciate the artistry of the very walls of this cottage. It was an interesting mix of being incredibly comfortable yet looking like an exquisite museum exhibit. Our host had the best tips for dining, water sports, lava spotting and shopping, and she was incredibly gracious. Our Hawaiian memories made in this cottage are all the more beautiful for having made them at Bali Cottage. It has a very special feeling, serenity in paradise. It was a dream come true and it will inspire us for a lifetime. Mahalo

This cottage is an ideal spot for an adventurous traveler who wants to avoid the resort circuit and feel like a local. The location, so close to the bay, amazing snorkeling and other recreation, was even better than we expected when we booked our trip. And the aesthetics of the cottage were wonderful - eclectic, bohemian and peaceful. Our hosts were communicative and generous but allowed us plenty of privacy. We took full advantage of the snorkeling gear on site, and we enjoyed cooking outside and dining under the tree canopy. The visits from the cat were a plus, too. If you stay here, don't hesitate to chat with neighbors at the nearby beach park. They gave us great advice for places to visit and things to explore. We definitely would stay here again.

Very cool location and really old custom Bali wood work. Great place to stay for beautiful scenery and some of the best snorkeling on the island.

My husband and I couldn't have picked a better spot to stay on the Big Island for the end of our honeymoon. Karen was out of town, but her housekeeper Jeff was easy to communicate with and helpful to us during our stay. We loved this adorable cottage and all of its quirky decor, jungle life and proximity to the water. As others have mentioned, you may want to pack earplugs if you're a light sleeper, due to dropping nuts from the tree outside. I'd highly recommend renting a kayak to see the spinner dolphins in the bay (7-9 a.m. seemed like the best time). Some other local favorites were Da Poke Shack, Paleaku Gardens, City of Refuge and the coffee farms. A beautiful home, perfect for the adventurous and outdoorsy renter.
