Karen's place was really just as magical as the pictures. It is a mostly outdoor dwelling but also very comfortable. We felt immediately at home there and taking the outdoor showers was awesome! There was sunblock, beach towels, umbrellas and snorkeling gear provided. The beach is a block away and the string lights in the garden at night transport you to another place. I would say you need to be cool with the outdoor element to get into this - particularly bugs. Karen's place is a must on your trip to the Big Island!

Karen's place is unique and wonderful! She was willing to let us check in late so we could attend an event we desperately wanted to and she even met us on the driveway! The Bali Cottage was fascinating and it was a delight reading through the binder which explains the heritage (along with offering tourist options and suggestions!). Lovely stay!

The Bali Cottage is a special airbnb only a 2-minute walk from a beautiful bay with plentiful snorkeling and kayaking opportunities. Every detail of the place was on display as we enjoyed lounging in the Bali inspired, open air cottage. There's no A/C but there are plenty of fans and a nice breeze. The outdoor shower is beautiful, all of the furniture makes for a cozy and unique experience, as well as the outdoor kitchen and sitting area. Karen is also supper friendly and helpful, and lives on the grounds with her husband so we got a lot of tips from her. Very private though and the Cottage is completely separated. We highly recommend staying here!

Where to start .... I loved everything about Bali Cottage, from the outdoor kitchen in the front to the outdoor (but totally private) bathroom / shower in the back. It is exactly as beautiful as the pictures shown. The carved wood panels & exquisite Asian decor really do make you feel like you are in Bali (another favorite place). It is extremely comfortable while providing a real connection with nature. My personal favorite was doing yoga each morning outside on the front porch as the sun was rising and the birds were waking up. The beach is a very short walk and gentle ocean sounds can be heard from the cottage. Karen is a wonderful host and very enjoyable to share conversation with. If I had to choose one word to describe Bali Cottage it would be Magical.
