  • Everything previously said is pretty accurate. The cottage is beautiful and open-aired. Ocean breezes keep things cool, and fans are available if needed. The shower is the coolest part being it is hidden from outside view, and nothing beats the morning showers under Hawaiian Sun. The cottage lies in a nice Bay that is peaceful and in great view of sunrises and sunsets. It's about 30 minutes from Kona, the closest town that is really busy. Kona is very beautiful and fun. There is a cool bee farm, BigIslandBees, about 2 miles away. If you're looking for isolation, the cottage is very private but not far at all from neighboring houses. Geckos are fun and will watch you cook. Spiders are generally a nonfactor because they won't bother you. There were two big Cane spiders outside our bed screen one night, so if you fear large spiders be aware of those. The mosquitoes can be annoying, so take advantage of the bed screen and also some bug spray. This cottage is great for exploring Hawaii and seeing things outside of tourist attractions. Karen is a generous and helpful host. She has plenty of ideas for things to do on the island.

    Response from Karen:

I was able to trap the cane spider with her nest in a glass and took her down to Manini Beach where there is a Sugar Cane Plant! So sorry they frightened you, but they are harmless!

  • This place is a dream. Magical atmosphere here. Karen was very generous host, and helped us out when we were in a pinch. She also showed us the best places to see sunset and gave us access to amazing snorkeling. We loved the bed, the furniture, bathroom, surfboards, everything was just great. This place is a destination in itself and we highly recommend staying there.

  • Karen (email hidden), and a very sweet woman. The location is amazing, walking distance to the bay and beach with unparalled snorkling. We are both outdoorsy camping types, and we knew that it was an open air cottage, but the mosquitos, and mongoose were a bit more than we bargined for. For the price of the rental we didn't want to feel like we were camping minus our tent. The bed is comfortable and we were grateful for the netting. However we weren't fully able to enjoy the rest of the space, inside or the gazebo because of the mosquitos. Our thoughts are that a substantial yard trim would help limit the bugs and critters without loosing any of the charm!

  • We spent the second half of our honeymoon here and we couldn't have (email hidden)e cottage is magical and Karen (email hidden). You are a 2 minute walk from some great snorkeling right there in Captain cook and an easy drive to Kona. There is so much to do on this island, we had to pace ourselves! We did have a fair bit of rain but the roof help up well despite all the downpours! My wife had a bit of trouble with mosquitos but the bed has a net so sleeping wasnt a problem. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for something unique and private!

  • We loved the Treehouse! It's a truly unique cottage with many quirky & fun furnishings. We were very comfortable, and appreciated the special touches that made us feel at home. Although the hosts were away, the couple standing in for them were very friendly & gracious, and made sure all our needs were met. It's a little like camping, as it's open to the air, but with a fully equipped kitchen and comfortable bed. It can be a little noisy when the wind blows, but that wasn't a problem for us.

  • The Bali Cottage was absolutely amazing in every way! It really felt like being in a secluded jungle cottage, but very comfortable and a 2 minute walk to the park/bay, great snorkeling, kayaking and occasional pods of spinner dolphins. I must have taken 25 pictures just of the cottage and surrounding gardens. Everything we needed was provided, including hawaiian music cds, plenty of reading material, cooking utensils, condiments, beautiful 4 post mosquito netted bed(mosquitos not bad), a very friendly cat(purry), private outdoor bathroom and enough artwork, antique woodwork, surfboards to look at for days.
The large tree in a picture does come into the living room and lets you know when there's a breeze, but is flashed to keep the rain out. Very cool to sit on the front porch while it's raining(actually any time). We played dominos on 4 different tables( 3 outside and 1 in). We also used the bbq almost nightly. We've stayed at several airbnbs with excellent results, but this was the best by far!

  • We met Karen and Ron just as they were leaving on a trip, but a very competent and friendly couple house-sat for them; they took good care of us. We stayed at Bali Cottage ten days and felt as if we were experiencing Old Hawaii. The geckos, mongooses, and cat visitor, for example, delighted us! At night, the tree through the roof creaks; add the sound of the waves and the completely enclosed bed (mosquito-netted) and you might be on a ship at sea'.
The place is bigger than it appears on-line--quite roomy, in fact, and exceedingly well-stocked. Decor is both comfortable and exotic.
The tips for visitors were excellent, i.e. Mamalahoa's Hot Tubs is not to be missed, and Fair Winds snorkeling was the best.
Though we had several nights of downpours and a few leaks, the important stuff stayed dry and everything else dried out during the day. Manini Park, just steps away, is lovely.

  • What a wonderful honeymoon!!
    Just like in our dreams!!
The place is amazing, quiet, so closed to the nature that you really feel being a part of it.
Geckos, mongooses, amazing fishes, dolphins, birds, Cleo the dog and Perry the cat...
Giants trees, beautiful flowers with wonderfull smell...
The beach is next to the house...
Waking up with the sound of the waves and the birds singing...
The only thing we (email hidden)squitos but with a good repellent there is no problem!
Karen and Ron are a wonderful couple who really love sharing and giving tips, advices, must-been-seen-places.
We really enjoyed spending time with them and if thry want to come to Paris we'll try to host them as great as they did to us!!
We loved our trip so much!!!
    Mahalo and Aloha
