We enjoyed our stay at the cottage very much. This is an absolutely unique place. The branches of the big tree that is growing through the cottage shake with the wind and these sounds and the ocean and the geckos and the birds are great to listen to.
If you need quietness for a good sleep, this cottage may not be the best choice, but we could always fall asleep again.
Karen and Ron were very friendly! They live directly near the cottage, so good advice for a trip on the island was always at hand.
Thanks again for everything and especially the champagne for our wedding anniversary, we enjoyed it very much!!!
We LOVED our stay at the Bali cottage! Our only complaint is that it was too short! Karen was extremely helpful and responsive. Can't wait to go back another time =).
Hands down our best airbnb stay yet!! We loved our vacation in Karen and Ron's cottage! We fell asleep to the sound of the waves and woke up to birdsong every day. The rooms are lovely and the outdoor shower and lanterns set a perfect mood. Plus, it's like a home away from home--we had everything we could need and then some: boogie boards, snorkeling gear, local hiking and travel guides, a stereo and Hawaiian CD collection, sunscreen, bug spray, a little fiction library for light reading, beach chairs, coolers, and a full kitchen with pots, pans, and spices. The only downside was that it had to end. We'll definitely be back the next chance we get!!
Karen and Ron's Bali Cottage in Napo`opo`o on the Kona coast, just steps from Kelalakekua Bay, is a delight. Excellent sense of privacy with the cottage in its own tropical grove. You feel immersed in nature under the sheltering banyan, amid palms and other lush foliage, the afternoon breeze from the sea, and the sound of breaking waves at night. Had an extremely enjoyable stay. Ron and Karen are excellent hosts.
What can we say about paradise? We loved waking up to the birds and geckos chattering away. The gardens are beautiful, and the cottage is so interesting...you never run out of things to look at. The kitchen(although small) is well equipped, Karen and Ron have included all the details for a comfortable stay...beach chairs, snorkel gear, ideas for day trips...Karen and Ron are extremely attentive and very interesting! And yes, if you are a princess this might not be for you...we had some gorgeous spiders keep us company...we loved them, but others might not!
Karen and Ron are excellent hosts - welcoming, attentive, and just good people. We are amazed at their generosity in sharing Bali Cottage with guests - it is obviously a work of love, a real gift. The cottage and grounds were the perfect spot for our 2 week R and R - plenty of peaceful paces to hang out and nap and a 2 minute walk to great snorkeling, beach combing, swimming, and lazing on the beach. We are restored! We will definitely head back to Bali Cottage again when we can.
Where to start? Our stay in the tree house was everything we dreamed of and more. There was one thing I was concerned about before coming and it was the spiders and bugs. Being arachnophobic I can tell you I was a little nervous. The spiders were not too bad and barely moved. Only one really bothered me - blocking my way to the shower - but I was quickly saved by a small gecko who hungrily snatched him up. The Mosquitos weren't too bad, just make sure you wear some repellant.
The house itself was great. Very roomy and comfortable. The bed was a little small but very comfortable and we were thankful for the mosquito netting and night side fans. The yard and garden were spectacular and we spent a lot of time just enjoying the deck. My fiancée really enjoyed the gas stove and everything we needed was there in he kitchen for us.
The shower was AMAZING and shower in complete privacy with the sun shining down on you through the trees was truly magical. The toilet was private and clean as well (no one had previously commented on this and I was curious).
You are just over a minute walk to a beautiful beach park with amazing snorkelling and lots if room. It was never very busy.
Karen and Ron were great as well. They were the perfect balance of friendly and knowledgeable and giving us our privacy It was great sharing a beer and glass if wine with them a time or two.
We believe this place attracts a certain persons - it was what actually convinced us to go to Kona. Kona is our favourite place of all the islands, very laid back and old Hawaiian traditions.
If you're a princess - this is not your place. It's open to the elements and is more like very luxurious camping. Karen and Ron thank you for a very memorable trip and we will be back as soon as we can!
We had a great time at Karen's place. She and her husband were kind and welcoming hosts. We would definitely stay with them again.
We were married on Manini Beach on December 30th and our hosts, Karen and Ron, were the most amazing people we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They are very caring, calm and relaxed souls with easygoing personalities. Ron helped us discover the area by walking with us to alternate beaches, giving us tips on where to go and what to do. Karen was amazing helping with wedding invitations, flower suggestions, typing and printing vows; they were both so helpful beyond words! They have become treasured friends!
The Bali Cottage itself, well, it is a magical place! So nice that we said the only thing we didn't like about the cottage was that we "loved it so much"! It was hard to leave and see the rest of the island. This is the reason we plan on returning. 13 days was just not enough! With the outside kitchen, shower and the open concept, all the geckos, cool spiders that were outside in the trees eating those nasty little mosquitoes and the cool baby praying mantis outside on the lanai was just the most natural place for us to be.
Snorkeling was amazing being it was our first time, and Ron helped us get the kayak in the water on our last day while we paddled out to Captain Cook in the pouring rain, Captain Ron waited on the beach to make sure he guided us in without a hitch.
We had a photographer from the island who had never been to Manini beach and the wedding pictures were fantastic! With the waves exploding behind us, and the community coming out to attend our wedding, well, it was just simply perfect! If you are looking for a wedding/honeymoon place without the fuss and bother of a huge wedding, this is the PERFECT!
We were lucky enough to stay at the Bali Cottage for 2 nights just before Christmas. The beach is just steps away. Kealakekua Bay is beautiful, and the cottage is the icing on the cake. There isn't much more that hasn't already been said- but we can reiterate- this is one of the most unique places we have ever stayed and it was SO worth it. Karen and Ron were great and extremely hospitable and helpful. We will definitely be staying here again!
