A place guests keep coming back to
Many guests return year after year, with several on their third or fourth visit
A hand-built log lodge on 20 private acres of old-growth forest, overlooking Mission Lake and the Olympic Mountains. Sleeping up to 16 indoors (22 in summer with lakeside glamping tents), it's designed for gatherings that bring people together such as retreats, reunions, workshops, family vacations, weddings, etc. 90 mins from Seattle by car or scenic ferry.
Your stay directly funds the Rockland Artist Residency, a free program for artists from around the world.
The space
Originally built in 1973 and given a full rustic-modern refresh in 2018, every detail carries Shawn's craftsmanship: a custom spiral staircase, a mobile kitchen trolley, a commercial chef-designed kitchen built for serious group cooking. The 14-foot dining table he made by hand is the highlight. The ceramics throughout are by co-owner and master potter Jodi of JRock Studios, often made in her on-site studio.
There's a wood stove, a wood-fired brick oven, and a yoga loft above it all. Outside, the Lodge sits high on a hill with westward-facing views that go gold at sunset. Mission Lake below, the Olympic Mountains beyond.
In summer (April through October), three furnished glamping tents near the lake are included with your Lodge booking, bringing total capacity to 22. Off-season setup is available at $75 per tent.
A Treehouse is also on the property, bookable separately on Airbnb. Ideal for a guest who wants their own private space, or to round out a larger gathering.

My work: Contractor/Designer/Artist
Speaks English
I am an artist and contractor living and working in Seattle, WA, USA. My art is sculpture, installation and performance-based. My partner (a ceramicist) and I started the non-profit organization, Rockland Residency, to support other artists (musicians, writers, visual and performance) in their creative process. Our short-term rentals help pay for artists during their 3-week residency at Rockland Woods. Our family is 2 boys and a dog. We build community as educators, coaches, and activists. We love the outdoors to recharge and get inspired. Sharing our dinner table with our friends, family and sometimes strangers is our favorite way to enjoy life.
