About Pai, Thailand
Pai is a small town, nestled in a lush valley in Northern Thailand. A gentle breeze blows often, cool and refreshing, as you find only in the Northern Thai region.
Foreigners and Thais co-exist here in a harmonious melange of artists, musicians, city-dwellers on holiday, nature enthusiasts, and adventurous backpackers.
Most people extend their stay when possible, and many return to this special place. This has led to an increase in tourist numbers, and an improved infrastructure to accommodate more people.
Despite some progress, Pai is still a beautiful and charming place, where you can find relaxation and peace.
We really enjoyed our stay here. It is a nice quiet, relaxing place to stay while exploring the great town of Pai. We stayed three days and really enjoyed ourselves. The Bungalows were a little outside of town which was expected, but you should plan on renting a motorbike to get around anyway.
No AC, but that was expected too. Even though it was pretty hot, the fan in our room got the job done. Overall a great place to stay.
The bungalows are great! Plenty of privacy while still having a communal space to be social. Ming is an amazing cook, and it was so easy to stay in and have her prepare a terrific meal. Grounds are very safe, well maintained, and the wifi is quite good too. The other guests were all incredibly chill and pleasant. I battled with my hot water heater, but I'm pretty sure it was a personal problem and not related to the equipment! :) The hammock on the porch was where I spent most my afternoons. It's located just outside of Pai (I walked there when I arrived), but a motorbike is almost a necessity for exploring the area anyway. Nice to be out of town and have a bit of serenity! Ming and Jake were both very kind and funny hosts!
I spent four days at Ing Doi Guesthouse and it was time well spent. My Bungalow was very comfortable, with a king size bed, writing desk and most importantly, a bathroom and hot showers. Ming's breakfasts were delicious and mingling with the other guests in the common area was an added bonus. The Guesthouse is only a short pleasant walk to the town and also if you turned in the opposite direction, it is a short walk to be immersed in nature. The atmosphere of the place just leads you to slowing down, it's a very relaxed vibe. The only downside would be that the Guesthouses close by played dance music loudly 1 night and I'm not sure how often this happens but I would suggest the use of earplugs if this happens.
The bungalows are really lovely and in the most beautiful spot in a valley. Be aware that the bathroom is open to the elements, however, so you will share your shower with some insects! Also when we were there Jake was away and Ming was on her own with another member of staff who was less helpful. Ming herself was absolutely lovely and went out of her way to help.
A nice location to be there. The laugh of Mink can you hear the whole day. She cooked very goed from 8.00 am till 8.00 pm. Only the nights are very cold so if you like to stay there in Janary take a warm swaeter and coat with you. Mink and Jake thanks for all.
Staying in one of Ming and Jake's hillside bungalow's was an absolute treat. About a five minute walk to town the peaceful surrounding and hammock on the porch make for a restful stay. Coupled with Ming's wholesome cooking it was the perfect place to hang out. The bungalows are clean and we stayed in one with a private bathroom, which although slightly open to the elements was perfectly fine, and apart from the occasional lizard was free from wildlife!
Pai does get chilly in the evening, so I recommend bringing a jacket. We ended up buying a jacket each from one of the vintage shops in town to make morning motorcycle rides into town more comfortable...
We would highly recommend Ing Doi for those wanting a great city escape in Pai.
Pai is great and Ing Doi is a great place to enjoy Pai from. Ming and Jake are super chill, putting everyone at ease.
Ing Doi is the perfect distance away from the main area of Pai. Close enough to walk there whenever you want, far enough away to mask the noise of late night backpacker revelry.
We will definitely come back to Pai and when we do, we'll only stay with Jake and Ming!
Ing Doi is definitely authentic Pai. Ming and Jake have been in that area for a good number of years and really know how to treat their guests to an traditional Pai experience. The location is super ideal, with it being an easy 5-10 minute walk into the center of town but isolated enough in the rice paddies that peace and quite can be easily achieved.
The food! Both of them are masters in the kitchen and have created a really nice Thai/Western menu. The dining atmosphere is super relaxed and we couldn't wait to get up every morning for the breakfast options.
Our bungalow was perfect for our stay and Jake made sure to remind us to get in some good hammock time on the porch, which we certainly did as the views of the surrounding mountains and beautiful sunsets were surreal.
We definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to experience Pai the right way.
We enjoyed our stay at Ming and Jake's. The bungalow was perfect for myself and 2 kids. It was nice to hang out in the common area where there was also great food to be had. Jake and Ming are great hosts. Jake even picked us up at the bus stop when we arrived. There place was a short 10 minute walk to town. We also stayed in town for a few days, but much preferred their quiet, scenic location.
Jake, Ming and family are warm, friendly and very welcoming. Our accommodation was fantastic, very peaceful and serene set in the midst of rice paddies. They are located a short walk from town and getting around was so easy. There is so much to see and do in the lush surroundings of Pai, we wished we had more time to spend in Pai and we will definitely return. Ming is a fabulous cook, Jake's musical selection was very cruisy. I could not fault anything. Thanks for a wonderful stay :) July 2013
