A delightful haven for you and a loved one, or great transitional/student housing this island-flavored, art-filled artists' nook is the perfect hideaway. Sleep in the custom-made bed, visit shops and sights, sip wine or just hang out!

The space

A delightful haven for you and a loved one (or overflow for holiday guests), this island-flavored artists' nook is a perfect hideaway. Sink into the generous clawfoot tub (shower too), light the candles and sip a glass of wine. Cook a romantic alfresco meal in the kitchen/dining room. The oversized log bed (queen) begs to be stretched out in with a good book. We are a 100% Smoke-free property as well. All the fun and ease of living in beautiful downtown Ojai, sans responsibilities!

Steps from the Farmers Market, all downtown shops and Italian fine or casual dining, Chinese, sushi, Thai, Mexican, sandwiches, old and new-style American food, Rainbow Bridge (healthy groceries and ready-made food if you don't feel like using the kitchen), Close to several local watering holes, Sushi and tequila bars, plus The Vine and Casa Barrancas' tasting room) name it, and you can get to it in a two-minute walk.

Ojai was recently featured in Vogue (URL HIDDEN) as a wonderful Shangri-La as well.

Quiet street, family neighborhood, close to local hiking trails, tennis courts (home to the famous 100+ year old "The Ojai" tennis tournament, or just bring your racquets and have fun) Golfer? Hop on the Ojai Trolley for $0.50! We are minutes from Soule Park. Yoga enthusiasts will delight in making the one-minute walk to the famous Lulu Bandhas' studio, just down the street.

Easy street parking, sunny small fenced yard. There is one very sweet dog that is in his own section of the yard separated from the studio.

Need something special? Please let us know in advance and we will try and help you. See something you like? Ask, it may be for sale!

Our guests are blessed to be in the middle of downtown Ojai - Here are a few highlights: Check out "A Taste Of Ojai" on Vimeo

We see our guests from time to time if we are home, so our interaction is basically on the guests' terms :)

We are in the middle of EVERYTHING! We are literally the middle of all the downtown maps (sometimes I have to open them extra-wide to find our street) and we have very friendly neighbors. If you bring your friendly, well-behaved, cat-friendly dog, you will find that you can take him/her just about anywhere with you. DOG OWNERS MAY NOT INSTANT BOOK, please message me with your details and dates so we can open a chat.

The Ojai Trolley ($1) has two stops within a block from the house and the Gold Coast Vista bus ($1.75 for adults) stops two blocks away, in case you would like to go to/from Ventura or the train station there.

Enjoy yourselves! Relax, park the car and leave it there for your whole stay! Let us know if you have any questions!

Kitchen, own bath, short walk to downtown, or lounge around on your own.

We enjoy visiting but respect your privacy :)

Downtown Ojai is a great place to live and we have a friendly, family oriented, creative neighborhood.

We are steps from both the Ojai Trolley and the Gold Coast Bus (and you can transfer from one to the other if you ask for a transfer ticket) as well as taxis, etc. Or rent bikes from the Mob shop!

If you have a larger party or a family, please see our other listing or message me for details and I will direct you to it!

-Please: our number one concern is for our neighbors. Be a nice neighbor. NO SMOKING of any kind on the property, ever.
-Please don't smoke here on this property - meaning within the walls of this property, do not light up a cigarette, clove, pipe, cigar, vaporizer hookah, joint, or cheroot.
-Nothing but toilet paper in the toilet.
-No pets on/in the bed, but please do have them sleep indoors - we have a local family of raccoons and possums that visit frequently and would like to avoid trauma on either end :)
-If you are leaving the premises, take your pet/s with you.
-If you do not want to bring your pets with you everywhere or at a doggie daycare during the day, please leave them at (your) home.
-This is a family neighborhood. please respect our neighbors, they are very nice. That means no parties, loud music, smoking, etc.
-There is room for two people or a couple and a small child in this space.
-We do provide free wi-fi, but are in hopes that you can just relax and enjoy your real self/ves.

Those are the only "rules" - basically we'd like you to enjoy yourself! The following is just some more information:

-Please let us know if you need access to laundry facilities (easily available)
-We recycle and compost as much as we can, but leaving food scraps out does attract the local raccoon population. Please keep a sealed container of your non-meat food scraps and we can dispose of them for you or show you where to place them.
-If you would like anything in the fridge/pantry beforehand, please contact me and I will do the best I can to fill your list and invoice you on arrival.
-We use high thread count linens and natural fibers to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Please let us know if there has been an unusual spill/stain so we can clean it asap.
-WINTERTIME: Please turn the heater and any candles OFF when you leave. It only takes a few minutes to heat up.

Maya is an exceptional host and the property's proximity to the attractions of the town are unbeatable. Maya and Robert truesly embrace the spirit of AirBnB. You are not just renting a space - you are a welcome guest. The space is sufficient for two. The bed is exceptionally comfortable and Maya has thoughtfully appointed it with everything you need for the stay. Highly recommend this Ojai Shangri La!!!

Lovely, accommodating couple. Room was a little too small to fit a crib, and comfortably move around, so wasn't the best fit for a family with a baby. But the hosts were very kind and offered us an alternative sleeping situation in the main house. While this option didn't work for us (we were specifically looking only at "entire home" in our search) it was a kind gesture. Would certainly recommend to single travelers or even couples looking for a centrally located getaway in Ojai.

Great little spot in the middle of town. My pup loved it too and got to play with their pup Bao. The indoor outdoor kitchen and living space were super charming. Proximity to town and hiking were great! The big claw foot tub made for a nice bath. Thanks Maya and Robert!

Maya was a great host and the space was unique and cool. Throughout the process Maya was quick to respond to my messages and really easy to work with on the arrival details. The actual room was great with a comfortable bed, and my girlfriend fell in love with a very cool cat that visited us a few times a day. Also, this spot is right in town and walking distance from everything you'd want to see there. I would 100% stay with Maya again!

My husband and I had a wonderful stay! This place is as beautiful and charming as it looks in the photos, and Maya was super welcoming and a great communicator. If you're going to Ojai, there is no other place to stay than here. We were able to walk to everything, no need to get in the car! Ultimate relaxation getaway for my husband's birthday.

Maya and Richard are wonderful hosts: warm, welcoming, extremely helpful and kind. We loved their quirky, charming little casita, with its bright, cheerful colors, massive comfortable bed, and entirely adequate bathroom. The open-air kitchenette, while tiny, offered everything we needed to make and eat real breakfasts every morning. And although although our hosts' main house was just a few yards from the rental house, we never heard or saw them during our visit, unless we knocked on their door. We did get visited one morning by Bao, their adorable little dog, which delighted us.

I'm a wedding planner/floral designer from the last small beach town in Southern California. My husband Robert is an amazing artist (he built the beds you'll be sleeping in and did most of the artwork you will find on the property) designer and sculptor, and he is a highly skilled massage/bodywork therapist with clients ranging from professional athletes to those in wheelchairs - and everyone in between! Please let us know if you would like to book a massage with him.

We love: Traveling (Hawaii is a big one, as we have family there, but we have been to Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, England, Thailand, Cambodia, Costa name a few) the beach, watersports, volleyball, art, music, (good) design, Pixar movies, gardening (well, ONE of us does...I am much better at working with cut flowers..). We love traveling in the States as well, our big favorites are exploring our home California coast, San Francisco, Hawaii, Yosemite, Aspen Valley in Colorado, and the beaches anywhere we can find them.

Things I can't live without: English Tea, the latest book I'm reading, Thai or Indian (read: SPICY!) food, tempranillo, viognier, champagne, dark chocolate, my husband, Radiohead, our kitty Smalls/Bittle/Beale (she's not picky), our "JackRat" puppy Bao and my iPhone. Not in that order.

We spend quite a bit of time working on our 1928 California cottage house....Most recently, we added beautiful stone to our front porch and stairs, new stones my husband collected outside as hardscape, and a new collection of planter boxes to the grounds. It gets nicer all the time here, so come on back, something is sure to be different! Please ask if you like something, it may be available for purchase!

As hosts, the most frequent comment we hear is, "you need to raise your prices" - and our answer is, "nope". We want to provide you with an AMAZING experience & we love to give local recommendations, tips and things to do. What we want you to do as guests? Enjoy OJAI !! Get the appetizer, bottle of wine, souvenir from one of the local shops- that is why we keep our pricing as low as we possibly can. We are mindful of your needs, which may simply be for some much-needed down time.
