The Space

A delightful haven for you and a loved one (or overflow for holiday guests), this island-flavored artists' nook is a perfect hideaway. Sink into the generous clawfoot tub (shower too), light the candles and sip a glass of wine. Cook a romantic alfresco meal in the kitchen/dining room. The oversized log bed (queen) begs to be stretched out in with a good book. This (email hidden) for ultimate relaxation. We are a 100% Smoke-free property as well. All the fun and ease of living in beautiful downtown Ojai, sans responsibilities!

Steps from the Farmers Market, all downtown shops and Italian fine or casual dining, Chinese, sushi, Thai, Mexican, sandwiches, old and new-style American food, Rainbow Bridge (healthy groceries and ready-made food if you don't feel like using the kitchen), Close to several local watering holes, (The Village Jester, tequila bar, Barrel 33 and Casa Barrancas' tasting room)....you name it, and you can get to it in a two-minute walk.

Quiet street, family neighborhood, close to local hiking trails, tennis courts (home to the famous 100+ year old "The Ojai" tennis tournament, or just bring your racquets and have fun) Golfer? Hop on the Ojai Trolley for $0.50! We are minutes from Soule Park. Yoga enthusiasts will delight in making the one-minute walk to the famous Lulu Bandhas' studio, just down the street.

Easy street parking, sunny small fenced yard. There is one outside cat that does not go into your space on the property, and one very sweet dog that is in her own section of the yard separated from the studio.

Need something special? Please let us know in advance and we will try and help you. See something you like? Ask, it may be for sale!

Guest Access

Our guests are blessed to be in the middle of downtown Ojai - Here are a few highlights: Check out "A Taste Of Ojai" on Vimeo

Interaction with Guests

We see our guests from time to time if we are home, so our interaction is basically on the guests' terms :)

The Neighborhood

We are in the middle of EVERYTHING! We are literally the middle of all the downtown maps (sometimes I have to open them extra-wide to find our street) and we have very friendly neighbors. If you bring your friendly, well-behaved, cat-friendly dog, you will find that you can take him/her just about anywhere with you.

Getting around

The Ojai Trolley ($1) has two stops within a block from the house and the Gold Coast Vista bus ($1.75 for adults) stops two blocks away, in case you would like to go to/from Ventura or the train station there.

Check In
  • Such a great place for a trip to Ojai. Clean and friendly. Steps from the main drag yet peaceful enough for a quiet evening. Great find!

  • My husband and I recently had our first trip to Ojai and we were lucky to find this place! It is adorable and quaint and Maya & Robert are very courteous. The outdoor kitchen is amazing and fully stocked. The bed is really comfortable and the bathroom was a great size with strong water pressure. The outdoor area is beautiful and lush. The location is awesome being so close to downtown where there's a variety of shops and restaurants. The hosts were so considerate and thoughtful (leaving out pregnancy tea for me and building us a bbq for our s'more station!). We hope to be back soon with our little addition in the near future! Thanks again, Maya and Robert!! We had a very enjoyable babymoon!

  • My boyfriend and I drove up to Ojai from Los Angeles and it was the perfect getaway from the city. We were thrilled with the cottage-style arrangements, loved the outdoor kitchen and lounging space. Maya and Robert were fantastic hosts giving us lots of recommendations, including a special event taking place the weekend of our stay. The close proximity to the main area of town was ideal, you can essentially park your car for your whole stay. We can't wait to come back!

  • Staying at Maya & Robert's place was a DREAM getaway. A must-see and must-experience for anybody trying to get away from the busy streets of the city. It's extremely quaint and oh-so-unique! You definitely won't get this experience from staying at a hotel. Their place was also in walking distance from several shops and restaurants which was a big plus. It was unfortunate that we did not get to meet Maya and Robert (wanted to say hello, goodbye and you're place is awesome! in person lol). Nevertheless, it was so easy to check in and check out. Wish you all the best, Maya and Robert. We hope to meet you someday! :)

  • My boyfriend and I stayed here for the weekend. Maya and Robert were so sweet, accommodating, and helpful. It was our first time in Ojai, and we loved the town, mostly because this place was so comfortable and homey. We highly recommend staying here if you ever visit Ojai! We know we will.

  • My boyfriend and I had a lovely 2 night stay here... It was our first time truly experiencing Ojai and we had a blast!

To start with, Maya & Robert are EXCELLENT hosts, as well as a darling creative couple. Communication was easy and we found them to be very friendly, helpful, & welcoming from the start. Check-in/check-out was seamless and we were provided with all that we needed. Maya even provided a little bed for the 2 kittens we brought with us! We shared stories and were given a little peek into an alternative way of living... It was pretty neat. Hopefully you get to meet them during your stay!

So, Maya & Robert have their own little compound here - with 3 living spaces mapped out. This little 1-bedroom/1 bath + alfresco kitchen is in the middle of the property - behind the main house. It's super cute n artsy with a rustic charm & nature all around. You will wake up to the sound of birds chirping, and maybe some crickets/frogs depending on the time of the year. It's almost like camping but with more amenities! The claw foot tub/shower is wonderful and the bed is pretty impressive too!

If you go in the winter, never fear -- that little heater will have you roasting in the bedroom! We had to shut it off -- it got so warm (and it was 40 degrees outside!!) The kitchen is fun to cook in and has just about everything you need... and if it doesn't, Maya will gladly help you out. The outdoor scenery is lovely and the seating is cute too. Overall, this unit may not be the most private but it does provide a great home base for exploring all that Ojai has to offer.

The location is PHENOMENAL... You truly are about 2-5min walking distance to a million cool places: coffee shops, restaurants, thrift shops, bookstores, bars, health food store, the farmer's market, bike rental, bike trail, etc... It really doesn't get much better than this. We loved walking everywhere and had a fantastic time renting bikes from the Mob Shop (with our kittens in tow).

We would have loved to stay longer so we could explore more but it just wasn't possible. Soooo, there will just have to be a next time!! Thank you, Maya and Robert, for being so warm and hospitable!! We very much enjoyed our stay :)

  • We loved our stay with Maya, and cannot wait to get back for an even longer period. It's a beautiful and unique space, with incredible location --- we walked everywhere! Maya is a great host, and was easily accessible and constantly in touch during the run up to our arrival. We cannot say enough good things about Maya or the rental.

  • My boyfriend and I stayed here for his birthday weekend. Totally amazing and I would recommend to anyone who wants a nice quiet weekend. No TV, no music, no computer. Just us and the crickets. We LOVED it. The bed was nice and big and comfy. The outdoor kitchen was charming and had everything we needed and more! Maya let us borrow their charcoal BBQ to make ribs. She left a nice spread with utensils, napkins, plates - even recipes! The stone path had rose petals sprinkled to the door. Nice touch! Maya popped by when we first arrived just to say hi and ask if we needed anything. She had great recommendations for food and drink in town. Such a beautiful and relaxing getaway. Plus, the guest house was only a two block walk from ANYTHING you could ask for. We rented bikes at The Mob Shop down the street and rode down a bike path from Ojai to Ventura. Wish we could have stayed longer!

  • This is a lovely spot. We arrived at night, and felt immediately comfortable. It was a perfect base for a wonderful weekend in Ojai.
    We will certainly be back.

I'm a wedding planner/floral designer from the last small beach town in Southern California. My husband Robert is an amazing artist (he built the beds you'll be sleeping in and did most of the artwork you will find on the property) designer and sculptor, and he is a highly skilled massage/bodywork therapist with clients ranging from professional athletes to those in wheelchairs - and everyone in between! Please let us know if you would like to book a massage with him. We love: Traveling (Hawaii is a big one, as we have family there, but we have been to Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, England, Thailand, Cambodia, Costa Rica ...to name a few) the beach, watersports, volleyball, art, music, (good) design, Pixar movies, gardening (well, ONE of us does...I am much better at working with cut flowers..). We love traveling in the States as well, our big favorites are exploring our home California coast, San Francisco, Hawaii, Yosemite, Aspen Valley in Colorado, and the beaches anywhere we can find them. Things I can't live without: English Tea, the latest book I'm reading, Thai or Indian (read: SPICY!) food, tempranillo, viognier, champagne, dark chocolate, my husband, Radiohead, our kitty Smalls/Bittle/Beale (she's not picky) my iPhone. Not in that order. We spend quite a bit of time working on our 1927 California cottage house....Most recently, we added beautiful stone to our front porch and stairs. It gets nicer all the time here, so come on back, something is sure to be different! Please ask if you like something, it may be available for purchase! As hosts, we love to give local recommendations, tips and things to do, but are also mindful of your vacation needs, which may simply be for some much-needed down time.
