Private farmhouse suite from 1800
A 620 sq ft suite in an 1800s farmhouse with original mid-century furniture and a private deck.
Guests keep coming back
Guests describe the space as cozy and beautifully curated, with many returning or planning to.
A 620 sq ft. fully private suite with own entrance. The early American farmhouse is highlighted by a darling kitchenette, hot steam shower and original MCM furniture. We live on the other side of the eyebrow colonial, originally built in 1800.
This space is not appropriate for young children or babies unless you are certain they can be quiet during quiet-time hours between 9:30pm and 8am.
Please see the other details to note, especially regarding kitchenette limitations. Thank you!
The space
Lots of light, original art, books galore and internet access. What more do you need? Oh, yes, an adorable kitchenette – with every amenity needed for light cooking – with gorgeous wood walls made from the bottom of the home's old wide board floors.
Guest access
The suite also has it's own private deck - next to your own private entrance - to enjoy your morning coffee on.
Other things to note
- After 9pm, we ask for it to be kept quiet in the living room area. Conversations, video watching are best done in the bedroom at that hour. The suite bedroom walls and ceiling are not contiguous with any other part of our home, so very sound-proof. The only sound you may hear from us is a creak or two of the wood floors from the room above the living area (though those floors are sound insulated as well).
- This space is not appropriate for young children or babies unless you are certain they can be quiet during the quiet-time hours.
- If a 2nd bed is needed, we have a 30$ setup fee to put together a real wood frame bed, placed in living room. Please notify us ahead of arrival if interested.
- The kitchenette is great for light cooking - with an induction stove top and convection large air fryer toaster oven & microwave; but for cooking meat and greasy food, please request one of our grills - otherwise the wood walls get coated in grease. Thank you!
- We are a zoned b&b (barn & bike, llc) with a second unit (a stand alone barn) also often rented out - usually two couples who in most likelihood you will never see!
- We offer bike rentals (35$/4 hours/per bike). See barn & bike, llc for more info.
- We are one of the greenest lodging options anywhere - it’s complicated but no green washing. Ask for a tour!
- A 40" 1080p LED Smart TV is kept in the closet but lightweight and easy to pull out. It can be used in the bedroom (only the bedroom please) for viewing. You can connect to your own streaming accounts to use it and there is also a fair bit of free content through Roku.
- The EV charger works for J1772 (non-Teslas) and Teslas with our adapter. We do ask that anyone who uses it to please guestimate the charging cost and reimburse for the electricity drawn.
- Lastly, we have two cats (indoor/outdoor) who are never allowed in the suite because other guests can have severe allergic reactions. One is particularly frightened by dogs of any type, thus we ask guests with ESA dogs to please book elsewhere. Cats are not allowed in the suite under any circumstances, please.

Neighborhood highlights
There is a unique creative, bespoke, and food culture growing exponentially in the valley. We are within minutes to much of it. In the outdoors: 7 minutes to Stissing Mountain hike and it’s breathtaking views, 7 to the serene walk around The Nature Conservancy’s Thompson Pond, 12 to the Audubon’s Buttercup Farm Sanctuary, and 22 to Bash Bish Falls, the highest single-drop waterfall in MA. There you can also find fantastic quarry swimming and a sweet kid's swim area cut out of the outflowing stream. Closer to us, swim at the beautiful beach at Stissing Lake with the mountain backdrop. Swimming holes can also be found in the Roeliff Jansen Kille, minutes from us. Kayak and row boat rental can be had at Lake Taghkanic State Park.
And don’t forget berry picking! Thompson Finch in Ancram and Grieg Farms in Red Hook are two great choices. Great farmer's markets are in every town: Rhinebeck's on Sunday and Copake-Hillsdale's on Saturday are recommended.
In Pine Plains, you won’t find a more cozy old inn – and recently named a James Beard Award winner as one of the best restaurants in the country. Champetre, a French restaurant in Pine Plains is also terrific. Cider Bro's in Milan is quiet but close and also always delectable. We are 15 minutes to Red Hook with terrific dining at Yum Yum, or great takeout from Lucoli's, Bubby's, Salvatore's or Taste Budds. Hudson (22 minutes from us) is overflowing with gastronomic excellence, antiques, and eclectic shops, while Rhinebeck (17 minutes) has superb options itself. Gaskins in Germantown and The Corner in Tivoli are also destination restuarants. Millerton (15min), Millbrook (25min), Salisbury, CT (30min), and Chatham, NY (30min) are also charming and within reach.
Good coffee shops & bakeries exist in all the small towns including Tivoli Bakery in Tivoli, Cafe La Perche in Hudson, The Farmer’s Wife in Ancramdale, Irving Farm in Millerton, and the Copake General Store.
World class art can be found at the Hessel Museum at Bard College, Art OMI’s outdoor sculpture park, and the Wassaic Project in Wassaic (always something interesting happening). Basilica, Time & Space Ltd, and the Hudson Opera House in Hudson also always have interesting happenings. If staying longer, Mass MOCA in North Adams, MA (1:15min away) is our favorite day trip and may want to be considered.
Regular and alternative movie theaters exist in Rhinebeck, Hudson, Red Hook and Millerton.
Historical sites include the FDR Library, Eleanor Roosevelt’s Val-Kill, Frederick Church’s Olana in Hudson, Thomas Cole House in Catskill, Livingston’s Clermont Manor, Montgomery Place in Red Hook, Mills Mansion in Staatsburg, and the Vanderbilt House in Hyde Park.
In Winter you can ski at Catamount (30min) or Windham in the Catskills, or Butternut in Great Barrington (55min). Cross country at Copake Country Club (reportedly has groomed trails and rentals available) or Art OMI, Olana and Clermont Mansion, also reportedly having trails. Sledding at Burger Hill is also a big hit with the kids.

Where I went to school: Barnard & SOAS
My work: work on self, art
A couple and our nearly grown up children, we are grateful to live in this beautiful, dramatic, yet pastoral area. We cobble together and juggle jobs and passions to make a pretty decent life. Definitely we are into art and an eclectic range of music and food.
