This is a private suite, with your own entrance to come and go as you please. The suite, in a 219 yr old eyebrow colonial, consists of one large living room with small kitchenette, decorated with mid-century modern furniture and an old farmhouse table & chairs. A separate bedroom offers a quiet night's sleep, while the full bath is highlighted with a hot steam shower option.

The space
White walls, lots of light, original art, books galore and internet access. What more do you need? Oh, yes, a fridge and a coffeemaker.

Guest access
You will have private access to two large well-appointed rooms with Wi-Fi and a piano. The shower bathroom has a steam shower setting. A coffeemaker, a toaster oven, hot plate and a small fridge is the extent of the kitchen.

Other things to note
- The suite can be rented for longer rentals Nov. - April. We would need to provide a separate "special offer" invoice for a longer rental.
- The living room area of the suite is under the master bedroom. After 9pm, we ask for it to be kept relatively quiet in the living room area. Conversations, video watching, etc are fine in the bedroom and sound won't carry upstairs if door is kept closed.

Location

Red Hook, New York, United States

There is a unique creative, bespoke, and food culture growing exponentially in the valley. We are within minutes to much of it. In the outdoors: 7 minutes to Stissing Mountain hike and it’s breathtaking views, 7 to the serene walk around The Nature Conservancy’s Thompson Pond, 12 to the Audubon’s Buttercup Farm Sanctuary, and 22 to Bash Bish Falls, the highest single-drop waterfall in MA. There you can also find fantastic quarry swimming and a sweet kid's swim area cut out of the outflowing stream. Closer to us, swim at the beautiful beach at Stissing Lake with the mountain backdrop. Swimming holes can also be found in the Roeliff Jansen Kille, minutes from us. Kayak and row boat rental can be had at Lake Taghkanic State Park.

And don’t forget berry picking! Thompson Finch in Ancram and Grieg Farms in Red Hook are two great choices. Great farmer's markets are in every town: Rhinebeck's on Sunday and Copake-Hillsdale's on Saturday are recommended.

In Pine Plains, you won’t find a more cozy old inn with good food than at the Stissing House. Another Fork in the Road in Milan is quieter but always amazing. We are 15 minutes to Red Hook with terrific dining at Mercato or Modern Taco. Hudson (22 minutes from us) is overflowing with gastronomic surprises, antiques, and eclectic shops, while Rhinebeck (17 minutes) has superb options itself. Gaskins in Germantown and The Corner in Tivoli are also highly recommended. Millerton (20min), Millbrook (25min), Salisbury, CT (27min), and Chatham, NY (30min) are also charming and within reach.

Good to great coffee shops exist in all the small towns including the Pine Plains Platter, Murray’s or Tivoli Bakery in Tivoli, Cafe La Perche in Hudson, The Farmer’s Wife in Ancramdale, Red Devon in Stanfordville, and Irving Farm in Millerton.

World class art can be found at the Hessel Museum at Bard College, Art OMI’s outdoor sculpture park, and the Wassaic Project in Wassaic (always something interesting happening). Basilica, Time & Space Ltd, and the Hudson Opera House in Hudson also always have interesting happenings. If staying longer, Mass MOCA in North Adams, MA (1:15min away) is our favorite day trip and may want to be considered.

Regular and alternative movie theaters exist in Rhinebeck, Hudson, Red Hook and Millerton.

Historical sites include the FDR Library, Eleanor Roosevelt’s Val-Kill, Frederick Church’s Olana in Hudson, Thomas Cole House in Catskill, Livingston’s Clermont Manor, Montgomery Place in Red Hook, Mills Mansion in Staatsburg, and the Vanderbilt House in Hyde Park.

In Winter you can ski at Catamount (35min) or Buttnernut in Great Barrington (50min). Cross country at Copake Country Club (reportedly has groomed trails and rentals available) or Art OMI, Olana and Clermont Mansion, also reportedly having trails. Sledding at Burger Hill is also a big hit with the kids.

Columbia County Tourism, Rural Intelligence and Chronogram also have great online resources for ideas. Any other specific questions, please ask!

A couple and our children, we are grateful to live in this beautiful, dramatic, yet pastoral area. We cobble together and juggle jobs and passions to make a pretty decent life. Definitely, we are into art, and an eclectic range of music and food.

We can and will interact with guests on as as-needed basis. For the most part, we live in the house and will be in the other part of it when guests are here. We have structured the rental so contact can be at a minimum if desired. Please note that we also rent out our barn/a separate unit through Airbnb.
