This beautiful guest room with a private full bath in a pre-war building is your stylish, comfortable home away from home. It's an easy walk or bus ride to the PATH station, and then a quick train ride into the heart of NYC.
Lovely garden-themed bedroom with private bathroom in a gorgeous pre-war building in the quiet McGinley Square neighborhood of Jersey City. Free wifi, shared kitchen with friendly homeowners. Short walk, cab, or bus ride to train station into NYC, where unlimited options for fun await you! A very affordable and comfortable alternative to the cramped and expensive hotels of NYC.
We are ideally located in quiet Jersey City, on the other side of the Hudson River from Manhattan. We have a metro (PATH train) stop that is a 13-minute walk (or 5 minute cab or bus ride--the bus picks up on our corner) from the apartment that takes you to Manhattan in 15 minutes. The PATH train runs 24 hours a day, every 4 min during rush hour, every 10 min most of the rest of the day. There are stops at the World Trade Center, the West Village, Chelsea, and Midtown.
Our location is VERY convenient to Newark Airport and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan (a bus from there drops you off right on our corner).
If you like to run or walk, lovely Lincoln Park is only a 5 minute walk away. There's a pond (with turtles!), tennis courts, basketball courts, and a running track.
The garden room is sunny and bright in the mornings, but the blinds make it nice and dark at night. Sheets and towels are provided, and will be replaced once a week. Help yourself to coffee and tea whenever you like.
If you are arriving late in the evening, we would be happy to provide a continental breakfast for your first morning. After that, your meals are up to you. There are lots of grocery store options nearby, and we will have a shelf in the pantry and in the refrigerator for you to store your own food. You are welcome to use our dishes, pots and pans, oven, microwave, toaster oven, and dishwasher.
Please note: We have a very gentle pug dog (small) and a nearly-invisible cat--just want to be clear about that in case you have allergies.
Guests have full access to our completely equipped kitchen, and of course to the private bathroom and guest room with lots of storage space: a closet, an armoire, and a large trunk.
Interaction with Guests
We are very mindful of guests' privacy, but always available to answer questions or offer local advice.
--Although we are flexible about when guests can check in and check out, we require that you tell us your arrival time at least 24 hours before you come. We both work outside the home and often need to make special arrangements for week-day arrivals.
--We charge a replacement fee of $75 for lost keys.
--We have a very gentle, friendly cat and a sweet pug dog, so we'd definitely like our guests to be pet lovers and non-allergic.
--If you are staying in the whole apartment while we are out of town, only the cat will be here and you are welcome to use the entire apartment (sleeps 8-10). If we are here, we will be limiting our rental space to just the bedroom with private bath + the kitchen.
--Feel free to use our kitchen, and store food in the fridge and pantry. There are supermarkets and produce markets nearby. We provide a continental breakfast for your first morning if you arrive late in the evening, but after that your meals are up to you. Coffee and tea available whenever you like.
--Absolutely no smoking in the apartment, please.
--Laundry: There is a laundry room in the basement of our building.
--Parking: You can usually find parking on the street (free) near our building during the day. It can be hard to find a spot in the evening after everyone has come home. There is also a parking garage (~10 dollars/day) near Journal Square (PATH train station) that is a 10-minute walk from our apartment if you prefer covered parking.
Thank you for looking at our listing and please feel free to email us with ANY questions!
Meredith and Richard
Meredith and Richard were great hosts, I can't recommend them enough. They made us feel comfortable during all our staying. They were very helpful prior our arrival (directions, taxi number, and even getting us in touch with a realtor agent), during (they gave us advice about rentals, places to visit in NYC and Jersey City, maps, tips of where to buy groceries, etc.) and after (they helped us moving our luggage to our new destination).
The room is clean, beautifully decorated, bright and spacious. The bathroom also was clean and it had all the basic stuff you might need.
You can't go wrong with these guys. 100% recommended.
Thanks Meredith and Richard, we really hope to see you again soon :)
We had a _very_ pleasant stay with Meredith and Richard in Jersey City!
We can't imagine anything to be improved by them as hosts, we got everything we needed for our stay, a map of the surroundings with their favorite shops, bars & markets, their personal recommendations for everything around exploring NYC and much more. Meredith and Richard are very welcoming and helped us out with whatever we needed, for example using the laundry in the building.
The room and bath were perfect, bright, very clean and spacious. We had storage for all our luggage and a big table for our meals. Even hotter summer temperatures were no problem thanks to the AC. The big kitchen has everything you need and more for cooking, making coffee or tea or just to meet the hosts or Cooper, their dog, and Martha, their cat. (And if you might have any problems with pets, you won't even notice them if you don't want to. ;) )
We can highly recommend to stay here, it's a great and quit place just outside the hustle of NYC. (Via the nearby PATH station you're in the heart of Manhattan in around 20 minutes.)
Thanks again Meredith & Richard, once we're back around NYC we know where to look first!
we love staying with Meredith and Richard , it was 1st time to stay in NJ and not in Hotel it was very successful trial , their house is very clean very organized and cozy. they have very pleasant Starbucks coffee.we love them any time will visit NYC we will stay with them.
I would give Meredith and Richard 10/5 if I could. My flight was delayed because of hurricane Sandy from Monday October 29th till Thursday November 1st. I had a bit of difficulty reaching their building with no power in most of Jersey city and no mobile reception, but they have done the impossible and got me there safely. They have helped me with maps, how to get to places which busses to take, even gave me a few things to help me out to the other pace I was supposed to settle in. If it wasn't for hurricane Sandy and the PATH and NJ trains not working, I would have stayed with Meredith and Richard till the end of December and just got to work daily by train... I am really gonna miss you guys... I truly felt like home with you, if things were only different ..no hurricane and trains running I would have never left, but rather stay with you guys and travel 2 hours or more to get to work, because I know its worth it. I only wish if that would possible :(
It was such a pleasure to stay with Meredith and Richard. They sent me a lot of information before, so it was easy to find her home. I enjoyed my stay very much. It's easy with public transport to go to NYC and I discovered (thank you Meredith) that Jersey City has beautiful views to the skyline of Manhattan. When I will (of course I will) come back to NYC, the home of Meredith and Richard is my first choice. I can this accommodation highly recommended. Meredith and Richard: thank you again for this wonderful first experience with airbnb.
My friend Katherine and i stayed at Meredith and Richards place and we had a fantastic time.
They are a very friendly ,accomodating couple who make you feel very welcome .
The room was very bright , cozy and very quite to sleep in.
The area was fab too its just so easy to hop on the Path Train and within no time you are in New York.
I would def recommend any of my friends to stay with Meredith and Richard and i hope to be back myself around Easter time
My wife and I stayed at this place for a month. We were a bit hesitant about renting a room and sharing the apartment with somebody; but this hesitation just went away after staying a few days in Meredith and Richard’s place. Meredith and Richard is an intellectual, friendly, kind, and easy-going couple who really helped us whenever we have needed. Moreover, they gave us very detailed information about how to get around NYC and Jersey City. They just exceeded our expectations. The room and the bathroom are clean, sunny and cozy . As a very nice treat, they have provided clean towels, sheets, blankets every week, and soaps, shampoo, conditioner were all ready when we were there. There are a lot of books in the shelves in the room including books about NYC which would help you a lot to learn more about the city. They have allowed us to use fully their very functional and modern kitchen. We had also great time together. The room was very cozy and comfortable with its private bathroom in it. The place has a great location only 10 minutes walk from Journal Square from which you can commute to WTC and 33rd street in (website hidden) is just a ten minutes ride, 33rd street takes a bit longer but not much. The neighborhood is very safe;we have not seen any issue in this one month period. The path train to NYC runs for 24 hours a day so it is very convenient. Meredith and Richard’s pets were so cute and quiet. Cooper (the dog) and Martha (the cat) never bother you in any way. And also it was very enjoyable to pet them.
Overall, we had a great stay in Meredith and Richard’s place. They were very nice people and make you feel like in your home. We are sure Meredith and Richard's place will be the first place we will check the availability of if we would visit NYC one more time.
I can’t recommend this place more highly.

We are a friendly couple (a children's book editor and a graphic designer) who loves to travel and meet new people. We have lived in our beautiful pre-war apartment building in Jersey City for four years, and look forward to sharing our 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home with short-term travelers. We also hope to take advantage of AirBnB when we go on our honeymoon to Paris next winter!
