Other Things to Note
Some frequently asked questions, and the answers:
Q – Are sheets and such provided?
A – Yes, bedding is provided. If you need more (say an extra blanket or comforter) just ask. We suggest you bring your own towels, though we have some available.
Q – Is it safe?
A – Yes. Your room has a deadbolt lock. The property is gated. The neighborhood is safe and well patrolled by the police. There are probably more people actually walking around this neighborhood than anywhere else in LA. One of the few places other than downtown where you will actually encounter a crowded sidewalk.
Q – Is it central?
A – Yes, kind of. Remember what Gertrude Stein said about Los Angeles “There’s no there there.” Well, it is still fairly true. LA is very spread out and not a centralized city: if you are close to one area, you are by definition far from another. The location is between Hollywood and Downtown and it is easy to get to either because of the nearby subway.
If you have stayed in a hostel before, you probably already know what to expect. You have one of four rooms. We will provide you with clean bedding and toilet paper on the first day, but after that you do your own laundry (washer and dry on site). Your toiletries (shampoo, soap, etc...) are provided by you. Sure, if you need something or lost something, we will help you out, just ask. But in general you bring your own stuff. (There are a number of markets a short walk from the room.)
The common areas (kitchen and bathrooms) are cleaned weekly, but you are expected to clean up after yourself, and to do so immediately after using the area. If any common area is messy, contact me immediately and we will take care of it, no problem. (I live next door.) We do not always check the common areas everyday, so please, if something is not right, let me know. I want to know. I will take care of it :)
You have your own private room; however, the bathrooms and kitchen are shared. There are four private rooms per unit. Thus it is necessary to respect others wishes, which means:
1) No smoking inside. Please smoke outside. There is a back patio and a front porch.
2) No parties.
3) No loud music or such.
If you have a problem with someone leaving the common areas dirty, smoking, loud noise, etc.... let us know immediately, and we will take care of it right away.
We are happy to help and advise, but basically we will leave you alone unless you ask. It is a great room for the price, and you cannot do better for access to public transport.
It's a dorm-like place but has almost everything you need. The location is convenient, restaurants and public transportation are just few blocks away. I didn't get to meet Kelly but she provided instant helps before, during and after our stay. We had a good time in LA!
What we liked at Kelly’s place is that we had total privacy, a parking at the back for the car, two bathrooms which is really convenient, a kitchen to cook our food, and close to Hollywood boulevard and downtown, and close to the Staples Center so great if you want to go and see the Lakers or the Clippers play. The neighborhood is not the fanciest but there is nothing to fear, we had no issue at all. Kelly has been very helpful. It’s a nice place at a very good price.
Staying at Ryan's place worked out great for my stay in LA. Kelly, the property manager, showed my friend and I around and was super nice and made us feel right at home. We had total privacy and no disruptions from anyone for our 4 days so it was just like being in our own apartment. The 2 bathrooms were good and we also had a spot to park our car in the back. The neighborhood isn't the greatest but we didn't have any problems while we were there. It's very close to downtown near the Staples Center which was great for when we went to a Lakers game.
Kelly was very helpful in providing basic information to get around or getting groceries. The place is very central in Korea Town, affordable and safe.
I only wish the place could be cleaner, especially the room and the bathrooms and this constant smell of decay could be removed by closing the place down for 2 weeks, airing, and scrubbing it good and attend to broken shower door, and other basic houshold repairs. Cleanliness inside and outside (sidecorridors, back parking) would make this a perfect place to stay in Los Angeles.
First, the location is good,it's between hollywood and downtown. And I just need about 7mins walk to the metro.Second, the house is good too.The room where I live is big and it has two beds.Third,I also can cook in the kitchen. However,It was a little hot, because there isn't air conditioning.Anyway,I have a nice experience there.thanks
Very nice place to stay! Room is big enough for 2 people. There are two bathrooms which is very convenient. Also access to subway is easy and you need like 10 minutes only. We arrived almost at midnight, but it wasn't a problem and Kelly was very helpfull and show us everything. Really nice place for a good price! I of course reccommend it! ;)
