Description

The space

POI*13 Located in Captain Cook. Milolii is one of the last, and oldest fishing villages in Hawaii.
This private getaway is well worth the drive down the mountain.
The home sits on the flats of Milolii with an expansive ocean view, walking distance from the water. (Approximately 2 blocks- there is NOT sand beach access from here)
Many enjoy the snorkeling from here often referred to as "Da'Rock".
(Mother nature and tide permitting.)
During season the whales are easily spotted by the naked eye from the huge screened lanai of this cottage. The soft melodies of birds, with ocean waves can be enjoyed throughout the day in the lush gardens surrounding the home. Sophisticated creativity, peace and class are all interwoven throughout this special retreat. Stepping away from the busyness of our world into another place is easy when you are here!

Guest access

Guest will have access to surf boards, snorkel gear, coolers, beach chairs, boogie board, fruit on the property (when ripe during your stay: many variations of mango trees for multiple fruiting seasons in the garden), DVD collection, Smart TV with access to your Netflix, Hulu, You Tube, WIFI, games, puzzles, yoga mats, books to enjoy while visiting, BBQ, picnic table in garden, full kitchen including a coffee maker, VATAMIX, and bread maker, microwave and full oven/stove.
The perfect place to plan to grocery shop, head down the mountain to disconnect, while still having all the amenities of home, you've found the right place to escape.

The neighborhood

2 out of the top 5 snorkeling spots in all of the Hawaii islands are within 20 miles.

Getting around

You will need a car

Other things to note

*The drive down from HWY 11 onto Milolii Dr. may be more easily navigated during the day for the first time. (Consideration for flights)
Several twist and turns, take it slow and enjoy the ride.
Well worth it to be on the flats we refer to as, "the edge of the world"

*All properties in Milolii are on a rain water catchment system. Ours is triple filtered. Tenant is responsible for the purchase of their own bottled water and consumables.

*There is a house journal in the living area, please take a moment to leave your mark.

*CODE: for accessing the keys will be provided prior to arrival via email.
KEY LOCKBOX: located by outside sink in the driveway.
*WIFI: "Adventure House"
Password provided prior to check in via email

*Please recycle: We're on an island!
We've made it easy for you with separate receptacles inside and out for trash/recycling.

*Help us keep the price for enjoyment of these amenities so low!!!
Please conserve energy by turning off lights and fans when not at home. The average price on the mainland for energy is $.11/kwh
In Hawaii it is over $.50/kwh

*We do not have plastic bags given for shopping on the island.
You can purchase reusable bags at the store, or bring a couple in the outside pouch of your suitcase.
This will make it easy to get to for your shopping prior to making your way home the first-time.
(Side note: I bring foldable insulated bag for first shopping (and hikes) to keep groceries cool)

While it perfectly met our tastes, be sure you understand where this is in relation to "doing tourist things". If you're into the ocean, nature, birding, and don't mind driving, you'll love it. Our BEST snorkeling on the island was at Da Rock, walking distance from the house. Cross-breeze thru the house was wonderful. All day long, there was a cool breeze on the lanai, even when it was blazing hot out on the driveway. Fans made sleeping perfectly comfy! NO complaints!!

We had a great time here during our 5 nights on the west side of the island. It was very clean and nicely decorated. Perfect amount of space for the 3 of us. We took advantage of the enclosed lanai to do some end of day yoga with the provided mats. As described, it is about 10-15 minutes off the main highway, down a series of sharp switchbacks. Then an additional minimum half an hour to services/attractions. This worked out fine for us as we planned to be out and about during the day but less convenient for going back and forth. Or if you forget anything. Like your Costco card. We appreciated the quiet relaxing atmosphere to decompress from our busy days. A couple of things to note (which we did know prior to booking): no laundry machines available which was not an issue during our stay but might be a factor for some. Also the tap water is not potable so you will need to purchase some for your stay. All in all, a great little vacation spot!

We had a great time here!! The home was very cozy with beautiful beach decor. For the most part we really enjoyed our trip. The only couple of issues we had was how far away the home is into town, it's about an hour away from kona and that required a lot of unexpected driving. We don't recommend driving at night as the winding road to get into town is very very dark and scary when driving at night. There are tons of towels, beach towels, snorkel gear and a ton of fans when it gets hot! There are beautiful views of the ocean and the sound of nature all around. Overall, it was a wonderful vacation home and appreciate all that Tim has provided for us.

My partner and I had an amazing time staying here. The neighborhood is quiet and off the beaten path, the house was lovely -- great kitchen (Vitamix smoothies with fresh fruit!), comfortable lanai with awesome ocean view, lots of beach gear to borrow, neat little library and wifi. Honomalino beach is an incredible spot, sufficiently secluded that it's not unusual to have it all to yourself, beautiful and easy hike through jungle and over lava...We will definitely be coming back. :)

Our stay at POI 13 was amazing! We arrived at night, we were welcomed by little lights. It was a dream house. Huge Lanai where you can hear the waves, beautiful deco that inspire relaxation. We instantly felt on holiday. The house is well equip, we didn't miss anything. The hosts were super available and recommended us local secrets. We enjoyed so much our time there. Our stay was easy with all the information we needed to get there. Big Island worth the visit. We saw amazing fishes in our snorkeling exploration (they had equipment in the house), wild dolphins, volcano, lava, snorkel with Manta Ray... a vacation we won't forget. We traveled with my parents (58 and 61) and with our 3 months old baby. We all loved the house. Thank you for this amazing trip and I am available for any future question you may have.

For those seeking a remote, private getaway. This was a nice place to come home after each day of sightseeing. Dinner on the screened in lanai, morning coffee out on the deck chairs. The use of snorkel gear was really convenient. It does take some getting to! About 90 minutes from Kona, 45 from Captain Cook, the final 15 of which is down steep windy switchbacks to get to 'the flats' at the bottom of the hill. Once you're there though, it's great. Make sure you haven't forgotten any supplies though, as the nearest grocery store is about 25 minutes away, and if you need anything beyond groceries, it's pretty much Captain Cook or maybe even Kona. Nothing a little planning can't get around though. We had a great time here.
