We spent a night at John and Marie's house on our way to Kerry and one night again on our way back. The whole family was very, very friendly, although we smoked their whole kitchen, and it was more like staying with friends than renting a room. They were very helpful and answered all our questions about restaurants, directions,... It was the first time for our two little children (2 and 5 years old) in Ireland and they are still talking about John and Marie and the nice breakfast there.
We had a lovely experience. John was really nice and gave us a ride into town to find a place to eat, directions to where we needed to go, and told us about what to do in the area. The family was very nice and accommodating. The bed was more comfortable than anything I've slept on in months and they laid out a large breakfast for us. It was a wonderful stay.
We spent one night here whilst we attended a conference at the Heritage Hotel in Portlaoise. The house is perfectly located just a few minutes walk from the hotel. It is in a quiet neighbourhood off the noise of the main road. John and his family made us feel very welcome, with cups of tea, offers of food and snacks for us and our little man and a breakfast in the morning. They also gave us a little mattress and extra duvet. They were very relaxed with the check-out time and told us we could stay late and give the little guy a nap before we had to head home, which we really appreciated. The room is ensuite and was clean and had the basics. It is however in need of a little TLC in terms of decor and feel. Apart from that it was great, lovely people and very accommodating of our young little family.
My two children and myself had travelled to Portlaoise for a football game and arrived at John and Marie's cold and tired. They both were very welcoming and we immediately felt at home.
I intended to visit some local places of interest and John and Marie spent considerable time helping me to work out where to go.
We would stay with them again.
John and Marie were absolutely lovely, they were so friendly and helpful during our stay. Bed was lovely and cosy, and the breakfast was excellent. Brilliant to have such attention to detail with Christmas decorations up in the room and everything. Great stay, highly recommended, we would certainly go back. Thanks John and Marie :-)
John and Marie's house was very cosy and nice. They were helpful and extremely hospitable
