Interaction with Guests
Limited. I am here if you need me for any questions or suggestions about your Big Island vacation. We have family on island and we have been vacationing in this complex for 20 years, so I can give you great tips depending on what you enjoy most.
Kona offers more than you could imagine for a small, quaint town on the "Big Island". Enjoy any and all of these:
-Scuba Diving - some of the best in the world
-Snorkeling - across street for more advanced, and less than 1 mile down the road best snorkel beach in Kona
-Hawaiian green sea turtle sanctuaries
-Restaurants ~ "locally casual" to "island fancy"
-Whale watching (whale season is mid - Dec - early March)
-Night stargazing from the top of Mauna Kea observatory
-Historic Hawaiian tours
-Sea Kayaking (in the bay with daily dolphin visitors)
-A day trip to Kiluea volcano - it is active!
-Kona coffee farm tastings and tours
-Macadamia nut farm tours
-Black sand beaches
-Green sand beaches
Public shuttle runs to and from downtown Kona and to a nearby shopping center with a pick up / drop off stop directly in front of community (name is Keahou Express Trolly - details at: (website hidden)(email hidden)ml). There is also a public bus you can take to the Hilo side of the island for just $2 each way. To fully enjoy the Big Island, a rental car is recommended.
Other Things to Note
If you are an early riser and want to enjoy sunrise at the beach, grab your towel and coffee, put on your flip flops and walk to the beach to watch local morning boogie boarders and body surfers. There are a few resident sea turtles that like to wish visitors a good morning too.
The world Famous IRONMAN World Championship triathlon takes place here every October and 23 mile marathon point runs directly in front of the condo. These athletes from around the world also train heavily in the months leading up to the event all around Kona.
No smoking please. Other than that, our only house rule is to enjoy the home and the island to the fullest. Be respectful of each and please leave both as you found them. Learn about the "Aloha Spirit" and take that home with you.
My first request was rejected due to the 24 hour time limit because Angelique was traveling at the time and didn't have email access. but I persisted with an inquiry as whether it was available at another time, and Angelique responded quickly with an explanation, and offer to reserve for us which was very nice. She also gave very good instructions on how to get there, and details of picking up the key etc.. and she provided a good recommendation for a restaurant in Kona for a special dinner for my wife's birthday.
I was looking for a place within walking distance of a beach, and away from the noise of downtown Kona but not too far. This fit the bill just great. The only thing that didn't work out was that the ocean had stolen most of the sand from the beach so it was rather rocky. Also the surf was a bit rough and there doesn't seem to much in the way of a reef for protection so I'm not sure how it would be as a snorkeling site even when the sand comes back. But it was a short drive south about a mile to a good beach for snorkeling. And the proximity to the beach did provide the sound of the surf when on the balcony which is a also a big plus for me. The balcony is really the highlight of this property, and especially nice being a corner unit so it is really big, and offers ocean as well as mountain views. The mountain view side also catches the morning sun and was a great place to enjoy breakfast. The rest of the condo was also very spacious giving a nice open feel. The kitchen was fine for all our needs - typically breakfast and one evening we barbecued a steak down in the common area to bring up to the condo. There were plenty of dishes - enough to go several days before using the dishwasher though I typically hand wash anyway. We tried to get by without airconditioning, but eventually caved in due to the humidity more than the heat, especially at night. The bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of towels including beach towels and other beach stuff to borrow.
Overall, I was pleased with every part of our stay, but especially the balcony.
Overall, this was a very positive experience. The condo is large and equipped with all your basic needs. The view of the ocean is more of a peekaboo view, but the building is just across the street from the a small oceanfront park (not good for swimming, but with a small sandy beach and a few tide pools). The unit is a corner one and has a huge wraparound deck that is fun to sit out on. The building is on Ali'i Drive which is the main strip in Kailua-Kona, but it's quite far south of where most of the action is, which can be either a good or bad thing depending on your viewpoint. Although there is an elevator in the building, you still have to walk up about 10 stairs to get to the floor the unit is on. There is a reserved parking space under the building. The owner gives renters use of coolers, ice packs, beach chairs, boogie boards, and snorkeling equipment which is very useful. There are no beach towels though, which would have been helpful. There is a nice washer/dryer unit. The king sized bed in the master bedroom is extremely comfortable. My communications with the owner were good and there was no problem with directions and getting access to the unit. My only negative comments would be that the unit is a tad run-down (although some of the furniture is brand new), and although it was picked up, it seemed as though the unit could stand to have a deep cleaning. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and thought it was a good value.
There are 6 big, great beach towels in the hall closet, I didn't think to tell you specifically to look there. I should also mention that that "vog" from the Kiluea volcano adds a dust that collects every few days throughout Kona when she is going off, which she is these days. Glad you enjoyed your stay.
The listing was as described and conveniently located near beach and Kona village. The house was clean and comfortable. We had a great stay. Angelique is a great host and was easy to communicate with her.
Angie was very easy to communicate with and very personable. The directions and arrival instructions were accurate and easy to follow. The Condo was clean and Lani was very nice and spacious. Kitchen was clean and well stocked with pots, pans, and utensils.
Our family of four has a great time there and would use again
The condo White Sands Village was very comfortable and cozy. Having Magic Sands Beach right across the street and a pool in the complex was an added bonus. We also really appreciated having WiFi and the washer/dryer. The kitchen was well equipped and the unit had everything we needed including beach chairs, boogie boards, coolers, and an excellent guide book. The location can't be beat as the condo is close to shops and restaurants (though a car is needed). Angelique was very flexible and accommodating and I would stay here again without hesitation. Thanks Angelique.
My parents and I loved our stay at white sands paradise. The condo was very spacious, clean and well equipped throughout. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook all our own meals which was great as I was competing in the ironman so didn't want to eat out all the time leading up to race day. extras like beach towels and washing machine were also much appreciated. It really felt like we were own holiday house it was so homely.
The condo is in a great location, right across the road from one of the best beaches in the area and the pool area was also excellent. The place is a few miles from town so would recommend having a bike or car. Also no wifi which would have been good.
Angi was very welcoming and provided thorough instructions from the start. The complex was easy to navigate and we found everything as described. We had a comfortable stay. As novice beach goers and boogie boarders, we enjoyed access to the chairs, cooler, and boogie boards. When we needed to contact her, she easy to reach and was prompt in her response. The place met our needs and was conveniently located next to the beach.
