About This Listing
On the foothills of Meteora, at the old square of Kastraki (called Mesochori by the villagers) you'll see a unique building which has stood there since 1845. The Ministry of Culture has pronounced it "protected". The building has recently been restored and it is ready to welcome you.
It was refurbished with respect to the local architecture.
The materials, stone and wood are the same as 160 years ago. A traditional guesthouse of the highest standards.
We are at the old square of Kastraki, called Mesochori. One kilometer from Kalampaka, on the way to Kastraki, opposite "Haram" tavern, turn right at the sign "To the old quarters". Our guesthouse is within a kilometer and will make you feel being in another era.
Within walking distance you'll see the enormous rocks, monasteries, chapels, paths small woods. Kastraki, the village, lies in the west of Meteora and is amphitheatrically built among enormous rocks. Uphill in the east part of the village you will see the old picturesque quarters of the village. Further uphill you'll see the "Adrachti" (sprindle), named after its shape. Kastraki is an international attraction for rock climbers and hikers.
Kastaki is unique for its long tradition in folk culture.
It's a great experience for a visitor to walk in the narrow cobbled streets of the old part of the village, to visit the chapels and monasteries.
We stayed such a short amount of time (in late in the evening, out early in the morning), but it was such a nice place in a beautiful location. A little tough to find at first.
Our room was nice, the host left a bottle of wine and there was a jacuzzi tub in our room!
Breakfast was very good and the hosts were so kind to show us what to see given our tight time schedule. Wish we would have had more time here!
This is the perfect place to be in Meteora! So peaceful and relaxing! The design of the rooms is traditional, but still cosy and lovely. The bed is very comfortable, the breakfast is delicious. The view is absolutely amazing! The house is just at the bottom of an incredible rock. The Internet works very well. And at last but not least the hosts are extremely kind and welcoming. They offered me a tea and a local fruit jam when I arrived. It was a nice gesture, especially after several hours of bus. I will definitely stay there again if I go back to Meteora.
We loved staying in at Amazing Suites Sotiriou! It had beautiful views and comfortable quarters to sleep. You could hear the Nightingales through the windows at night, it was magical. We also took full advantage of the porch over-looking the town.
Everyone working there was so kind, and gave great advice on restaurants to check out as well as sites to see besides Meteora. This was by far one of our favorite stops on the trip - nice and peaceful. Thank you for such an amazing experience! I'd recommend staying here to anyone, and hope to return one day.
Oh, and the breakfast was amazing!
My husband and I stayed here for 5 days (on the second floor corner room 5 with balcony) hiking around the Meteora area, visiting the monasteries, and the countryside. We are quite certain this place was the best in the area for our needs. The building is very tastefully restored and immaculately clean, and our room had a comfortable bed, nice bath with shower, fridge, fireplace, and a wonderful little balcony overlooking the town of Kastraki from beneath the rock spires. We used our balcony a lot, and it was especially lovely at sunset there, our favorite place to hang out at the end of the day. There is also another small balcony guests can use that has a different view of the rocks. The small town is very safe for walking to restaurants and services and everyone we encountered was friendly. Some hiking trails are practically right out the door. The hosts provided some complimentary wine, bottled water, little gifts in our fridge, and a special parting gift. The breakfast served in a communal room in the basement had prompt and friendly service. The food was average, though there was plenty of variety of choices, including eggs to order, cheese, yogurt, sliced meats, fruit, juice, breads, coffee and tea to fuel our morning hikes. The only aside I would offer is that the hosts live off site so there is not an English speaking person present there during the day to answer questions. We did not have a problem particularly with this as Kastraki is a small town with friendly people who we found to be very helpful when we had questions.
We really like these cosy guesthouse and lovely sacred place of Meteora whole! Family host of guesthouse are very hospitable, friendly and kind people! We'd got detailed information about monasteries excursions from our hostess, also she was distressed a lot about our movement by car because of snow (our trip was in winter for New Year holidays). Breakfasts here are tasty, square and consists of many local products and production! So, we were full of energy since the very days beginnings. Also we were supplied with the remains of our breakfast food and bottles of fresh water every day. And finally breakfast had happened even in that day when we were overslept. Our room was very clean and very comfortable thanks to good design and historical originality of house. Once we'd even got from the host bottle of wine of their home manufacture as a present. It was pleasant a lot to stay here! We'd like to come back! Thank you!
The pictures of this location do not do it justice. This is by far one of the cutest and most quaint locations we have ever stayed at during our European travels. It is small but the views are fascinating of the Meteora towers and you are a hop, skip and jump away from reaching the hike up. Christos was able to direct us to the location as it can be a bit difficult to find but once you are there you realize how central you are to the downtown area where there are many places to hang out and have Greek food and Alfa beers!!! We only stayed one night but enjoyed every minute of our stay and the breakfast the next morning was amazing!!! Would love to come back and stay at this little cozy spot in front of Meteora!!!
