On the foothills of Meteora, at the old square of Kastraki (called Mesochori by the villagers) you'll see a unique building which has stood there since 1845. The Ministry of Culture has pronounced it "protected". The building has recently been restored and it is ready to welcome you.
It was refurbished with respect to the local architecture.
The materials, stone and wood are the same as 160 years ago. A traditional guesthouse of the highest standards.
We are at the old square of Kastraki, called Mesochori. One kilometer from Kalampaka, on the way to Kastraki, opposite "Haram" tavern, turn right at the sign "To the old quarters". Our guesthouse is within a kilometer and will make you feel being in another era.
Within walking distance you'll see the enormous rocks, monasteries, chapels, paths small woods. Kastraki, the village, lies in the west of Meteora and is amphitheatrically built among enormous rocks. Uphill in the east part of the village you will see the old picturesque quarters of the village. Further uphill you'll see the "Adrachti" (sprindle), named after its shape. Kastraki is an international attraction for rock climbers and hikers.
Kastaki is unique for its long tradition in folk culture.
It's a great experience for a visitor to walk in the narrow cobbled streets of the old part of the village, to visit the chapels and monasteries.
We really like these cosy guesthouse and lovely sacred place of Meteora whole! Family host of guesthouse are very hospitable, friendly and kind people! We'd got detailed information about monasteries excursions from our hostess, also she was distressed a lot about our movement by car because of snow (our trip was in winter for New Year holidays). Breakfasts here are tasty, square and consists of many local products and production! So, we were full of energy since the very days beginnings. Also we were supplied with the remains of our breakfast food and bottles of fresh water every day. And finally breakfast had happened even in that day when we were overslept. Our room was very clean and very comfortable thanks to good design and historical originality of house. Once we'd even got from the host bottle of wine of their home manufacture as a present. It was pleasant a lot to stay here! We'd like to come back! Thank you!
The pictures of this location do not do it justice. This is by far one of the cutest and most quaint locations we have ever stayed at during our European travels. It is small but the views are fascinating of the Meteora towers and you are a hop, skip and jump away from reaching the hike up. Christos was able to direct us to the location as it can be a bit difficult to find but once you are there you realize how central you are to the downtown area where there are many places to hang out and have Greek food and Alfa beers!!! We only stayed one night but enjoyed every minute of our stay and the breakfast the next morning was amazing!!! Would love to come back and stay at this little cozy spot in front of Meteora!!!
The location is good.
The host was present once and helped with advice for hiking.
Description is accurate, however - we were told that the taxi would be taken care of and that didn't happen.
We had a bad experience with the elderly woman who was taking care of the place.
We only stayed here one night, but it was a very nice room with a huge bath and lots of hot water! That alone made it great. Very nice location and view and our hostess made us feel very welcome.
What a lovely experience we had in Kastraki at Sotiriou! This beautiful 200 year old residence has been lovingly renovated and up-dated and was a pleasure to be in. The building is nestled next to several of the mammoth towers of Meteroa, our bedroom had a great view via a balcony, had a fireplace and the best use of red tile in a bathroom I've ever seen. Everyone went out of their way to make use feel welcomed, special and that our every need was met. They had great suggestions about how we spent our time there and even helped us with the dirty laundry we arrived with. Breakfast each morning was exemplary. We even got a ride to the train station after and early breakfast just for us! This is the perfect place to stay for those who are tired of the ho-hum hotel experience, want a little something special and/or have family as the rooms are set up to accommodate children really well.
