Wife speaks Spanish and husband speaks basic Spanish and German. We enjoy meeting new people and are great hosts and respect people's privacy. We have lived abroad and traveled extensively, as noted by our eclectic collection of art and crafts throughout the house. We are teachers and are very busy, yet find time for tennis and running. So come join us! We have been hosting guests through this site for over a year and a half, and have enjoyed our guests and getting to know them. We are both very helpful and friendly, as our reviews can attest. A washer and dryer are available, at no extra charge.

This was a great experience for us being that it was our first time using this service. Johanna was wonderful (didn't get to meet Bob), explained everything in detail like what to expect from her accommodation and other guests in general. The place itself was very clean, had a rustic charm to it. Very quiet and serene surroundings; perfect for our situation as we also had a 11 month old with us. The days just went by for us in that we were worried if the other guests would mind having a baby in the house as she can get really loud sometimes. But we never heard of any complaints as such.
Johanna gave us our space, as both her and us were busy. Didn't cross paths as such, over our entire stay.
Overall, it was way beyond our expectations. The neighborhood also is very quiet and perfect to have walks basically at any time of the day as the weather is just so perfect most of the time. The surroundings remind you of European countryside in a way…rustic and beautiful.
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay with the Gelbs. I cannot say enough for the quality of our stay and the generous price we were offered. Robert even offered to pick up Bagels for us one morning! The 4 block walk to the coffee shops was yet another plus. The kitchen space was yet another bonus!
Johanna and Bob's place was AMAZING! The house is spotless, there is breakfast every morning, and it is very close to the Caltrain. If you are just moving to the area and not sure where you want to live, if you're a college student looking for a second family, or if you're traveling on business and want a no-frills experience, this is the place for you! Cannot wait to see Johanna and Bob again, they are such friendly, warm people!
Johanna and Bob provided me and my classmate a wonderful temporary "home" during our one week stay in the Bay Area.
Despite our late arrival they stayed up and showed us everything in the house. They tried their best to be great hosts and provide us with everything needed to feel home.... hot tub, bicycles, and interesting stories about the area.
Their home is very clean, from the bedroom we stayed in to the living room, the kitchen and the shared bathroom. It is also very quiet. You cannot hear the traffic or any other guests.
But what we enjoyed the most was the provided breakfast in the morning! We had everything from soy milk, to fresh fruits and Johanna's homemade granola. For people like us who stayed in the Bay Area to work, this is more than convenient.
I would highly recommend to stay with Johanna and Bob. We felt that we have found new friends in San Carlos.
Johanna and Bob are amazing hosts! There house is warm, welcoming, and well-kempt. I would recommend this bnb to anyone staying in Redwood City. Not only did they provide a great environment to stay in, but they also helped guide me in the right direction regarding multiple issues (where to live in the city, how to get around, etc.). I would rate my experience as a 10/10!!
Johanna and Bob are amazing hosts. I have enjoyed my stay with them for many reasons such as the free breakfast, personal attention, detailed walk-thru and responsiveness.
I will be back.
Bob welcomed us to his house by spending at least 20 min on a tour and explaining how things work in his home. The accommodation was exactly as described, quiet neighborhood, close to all amenities and 2 min to Freeway 101. The coffee was great. Breakfast included cereals (hot or cold) with OJ, fruits, boiled eggs and more. The hosts were not intrusive. They were very accommodating. Wi-Fi was free and very fast. The room was clean and comfortable. We had a wonderful stay and would return again. Thank you.

We are two teachers who have grown children that are now out on their own, out of the house. We have a comfortable and simple home to invite others to enjoy. We are very active playing tennis, running and exercising, and cooking gourmet meals. We have traveled extensively all over the world and have lived abroad, as well. Johanna loves to travel in Spanish speaking countries and Bob enjoyed teaching English in China. Johanna speaks fluent Spanish and Bob enjoys speaking basic Spanish and German. Bob is now studying anthropology and Johanna hopes to become a professional chef after teaching. Bob is an avid reader, especially history, and Johanna loves Latin music .
Since we have often stayed in bed and breakfast accommodations, we know it's important to have privacy and friendly hosts, and we provide this as well as clean, comfortable accommodations. We have hosted over 400 guests and enjoy meeting new people and opening our home to others.
