The space

Darling, neat, clean, lovingly decorated and self-contained "little house" (casita) located in Miami's Upper East Side -- right outside the gated community of Belle Meade. Some of you may know the general area better as MiMo, a reference to the Miami Modern style of architecture prevalent along a 20+ block stretch of Biscayne Blvd.

This comfortable casita (it's a small cottage completely detached from the main house) is located in a lush, shaded garden setting -- right behind my renovated 1935 Art Deco/Mediterranean home.

You will have a private entrance to the property, with direct access to the casita and the gate that leads to it.

Upgrades throughout: enjoy the queen-sized bed's comfortable memory foam mattress; high thread count sheets and thick Egyptian or Turkish cotton towels; radio alarm; touch on/touch off bedside lamps

Kitchenette includes toaster/broiler oven, microwave, small fridge, coffeemaker, espresso machine, electric burners, pull-out spray faucet, pots, dishes, glassware and cutlery/other kitchen gadgets. Coffee and tea selection provided.

The bathroom features a shower with good water pressure, upgraded light fixtures, sink/faucet and large mirrored cabinet with space for your toiletries inside.

Also for your comfort and enjoyment: AC, ceiling fan, desk, large closet, TV/cable, DVD player, free WI-FI, books and DVDs. And just outside the casita: a small patio area, electric grill and bistro set are at your disposal too.

Street parking is plentiful and free -- but usually I allow my guests use of the driveway since the gate that leads to the casita is at the bottom of it. And if you are car-less, public transport is cheap and convenient: bus stops are just one block away on Biscayne Boulevard, with easy rides to Aventura Mall, downtown, and Miami Beach.

Access to the community of Belle Meade is right across the street and it's a joy to perambulate -- your walks/runs will be very quiet, very safe, and especially wonderful if you are a fan of art deco period architecture -- this is "Old Miami" -- most homes are from the 1920's/30's, just like mine.

La Bella Casita (by car) is very conveniently located 5 minutes from I-95 and I-195, and just 10 minutes from the beach -- the Kennedy Causeway to get there is a mere three blocks north. Downtown Miami and Miami International Airport are just 10-15 minutes away (taxis each way for Miami Airport usually run $25-30 with one stowed piece of luggage); Fort Lauderdale Airport is about 25 minutes away (taxis each way for FLL run $50-75; airporter vans run $25-30 per person).

The neighborhood is brimming with restaurants (Italian, Argentinian, Thai, Japanese, Vegetarian, Fish etc) mostly along Biscayne Blvd -- most are good to very good and at least one is world class (Michy's is a 2-minute drive away; six short blocks on foot).

Highly recommend you click on the GUIDEBOOK link at the top right hand of this listing to check my recommendations throughout the general area, in the neighborhood and beyond! Guest access

Guests have access to the garden and if they have a car, they will have use of the driveway during their stay. Long-term guests can arrange for weekly laundry usage.

Interaction with guests

I like to be there to meet my guests whenever possible, and make myself available via Airbnb at all times. Depending on the length of your stay, I will check in with you occasionally... But trust that you can take care of yourselves, and am respectful of your privacy

The neighborhood

The neighborhood is quiet, historic, and very walk-friendly, with a nice assortment of restaurants, bars, cafes, and boutiques within easy walking distance... As well as ultra convenient to pretty much anywhere in Miami/Miami Beach due to the location off of Biscayne Boulevard, and just a couple of blocks from the causeway that takes you to the beach!

Getting around

Very convenient public transportation, as Biscayne Boulevard is just one block over and buses head north to Aventura, south to downtown and midtown Miami, as well as over to Miami Beach. Highly recommend Uber also as it is reasonable and convenient, especially to and from the airport, etc. make sure to download the application to your phone and set up your account before you arrive...

Other things to note

I have three darling boys that you will probably meet during your stay: The youngest is named Benjamin -- he is a loving, rambunctious terrier. The other two are Shih Tzus: Wallace is our sweet old man; Chico is a bit older than Benjamin, and his back legs are paralyzed but you would never know it -- he is full of chutzpah!

House Rules
No smoking
Not suitable for pets
No parties or events
Check in is anytime after 3PM

Absolutely NO SMOKING inside the casita --and NO drugs anywhere on the property. Either will represent grounds for immediate eviction / no money returned.

In Florida it's just common sense: it is VERY important you keep the casita free of crumbs, and sweet/sticky substances, and definitely do NOT keep open food out -- all of this WILL attract bugs, especially ants;(Mosquitoes abound, so keeping windows/doors closed is important too).

You must also acknowledge
Dog(s) lives in the house

Karen is a wonderful host(ess). She introduced me to many local restaurants and helped me familiarize myself with areas of interest. Karen's place is clean, cozy and quiet at night. I found the neighborhood great for morning walks. I am from Maine and wanted to enjoy the warm weather of South Florida. Mission accomplished!!

Karen was an incredible host. She was welcoming, kind, and definitely made me feel at home. She even went the extra mile to make sure I didn't feel to lonely on Thanksgiving day and invited me to join her and her family for a slice of pie!

Karen is both warm and professional. She anticipated our needs and communicated well while still giving us plenty of space. The casita is in a prime location and while we were there for school, I would love to return for vacation.

La Bella Casita is a lovely little spot. Karen has 3 delightful small dogs and a nice backyard. There was plenty of privacy and Karen was very helpful with tips on places to dine nearby and directions to nearby sites. The location is great and our stay was very pleasant. Peter&Kat

Moved to Miami in 2011 and bought this fab 1935 Art Deco/Mediterranean home with a little house (casita) in the back -- which I've almost completely redone so as to accommodate guests!

I grew up in France and England, with the exception of a couple years each in New Mexico and Texas. As an adult, I have lived in Greece, Austria, Texas, New York, Panama, California, Burma, the DC area (Virginia and Maryland) and the Middle East. I have traveled extensively besides, and love to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures. Miami is a vibrant city, a real melting pot of people from different cultures with a widespread affinity for the arts, including the culinary arts! And dancing and music are everywhere... it's a unique destination with a rich history and architectural tradition, and offers so much more than JUST beautiful beaches and spicy nightlife!
