The Granery Colonica seen from the field; entrance of the two apartments on this side. This is an old photo, the trees are 3 times as big now!
THE SORBELLO GRANERY
Few places in Tuscany these days are actually authentic farm houses; they have been "done up" to suit tourists, pools added, modern kitchen and (email hidden)ings that just were not part of the scene back when these houses were all inhabited by farmers, until the mid 70s. Here at The Granery, the house has remained the way it was. Situated in the gentle hills on the border of Tuscany and Umbria, this is a great inexpensive place where you can get away where you can afford to spend some time and soak up the "real" country life, not the tourist version. Up a quiet back road, only 1 kilometer from the main road between Mercatale di Cortona and Niccone (near Umbertide) the house affords unbeatable views from the garden of this simple comfortable farmhouse.
So, why not add a country stay to your travels in Italy, without spending a bundle. Do your touring, then come for a relaxing stay on the Sorbello Estate; the Granery has a large kitchen/sitting room and very spacious bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. I will note that the bathrooms are a bit outdated and could use some work, but for now, they are, as they are, the way they always have been! There is a tub and shower, the baths are just...very plain.
There is also a slightly smaller apartment available for 32 euro a night, same characteristics, but with spectacular architectural design, one that is rarely seen with a "suspended" beam, like the ones in the Convent of San Marco, Firenze.
This is a very large Tuscan style stone farmhouse "colonica" with lawns surrounding it and fields beyond down into the valley. There are 3 apartments in this building, but you would not know it, each entrance is on a different side of the house and each has a large separate garden area.
Above the house are woods, and below the valley of the Niccone extends for 15 kilometers, you can see all the way to the pass that goes to Cortona.
There are fantastic walking paths right from the front door, all labeled CAI walks, great also for mountain biking.
You can walk 5k to Mercatale di Cortona, all on back roads, about a 1.5 hour walk.
This is also a convenient location for touring from Siena to Todi, including Cortona, Siena, Arezzo,Perugia, Gubbio, Assisi and nearby hill towns, and characteristic villages.
We can pick you up so that you do not need a car to stay in the country.

If you are interested in other dates that are not shown, please contact us, your dates may be possible. Look at our friend Mara's place , in Chianti. Why not come and stay awhile in both?
I am not sure of the square meters, this is quite a large living space and all the bedrooms are a good size. The double downstairs is a bit smaller.
Water is from a slow running spring. We must be very careful with it so we ask guests to be very careful with their water use, especially in July and August
Rule of thumb, no more than one shower per person per day (save water, shower with a friend!)
