Charming farm cottage on a hill overlooking West Fork Valley, in rural Carlisle Co., close to Paducah, but in a peaceful, quiet setting. Our farm has been in our family for 100 years, & we love making it available for guests from around the world to share our love of the land and the natural beauty of West KY. One large, open room features living area, sleeping area, & kitchen. One private bedroom, one bath with inviting shower. Woods, lake, creek, wildlife, & only 30 min from Paducah.

The space
Our farm is a working farm, growing corn, soybeans, and hay for the horses. The "bottoms" along West Fork of Mayfield Creek are planted in corn this year, and we alternate between corn and beans. We make hay for the horses, and have several acres in pasture for the four of them, Strawberry, Maggie May, Flossie May, and Johnny. There are nice, small lakes for fishing, canoeing, kayaking. You're welcome to enjoy the lake while staying at Roots and Wings, however you must first ask and get permission from the owner of that portion of our farm, my brother Larry, who is Manager of Roots and Wings.

Paducah is only 30 minutes away, for the Quilt Shows (fall and spring), the Quilt Museum, Lowertown Arts Community, the Barbecue on the River Festival in September, and the many other amenities offered by this unique small city on the rivers!

The confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi is just a few minutes away at Wickliffe, and be sure and visit Fort Jefferson Memorial Cross where you'll have a great view of the rivers, Kentucky, Missouri, and Illinois . . . . . "the birthplace of the Mighty Mississippi!"

Guest access
The entire cottage is available for guests for the entire time of their stay. Family members live nearby and are present on the farm every day, carrying on the business of the farm, and are able to meet all guest needs immediately. We're happy to show you around the farm, or leave you alone to enjoy the peace and quiet, and explore on your own.

Access to the cottage is by key in lockbox, hung on front doorknob. Upon confirming your reservations, you will be provided the code to the lockbox.

Other things to note
The driveway up the hill to Roots and Wings is a bit steep, but we keep it graded so that you should have no trouble getting up the hill.

Location

Bardwell, Kentucky, United States

Our "neighborhood" is a very rural area. The cottage looks out over our 300 acres, most of which is cropland. There is also a good portion of the land in woods, with creeks, ponds, lakes, and we'd love for our guests to enjoy the farm. Fish a little! Go canoeing, kayaking, john boating on the pond and lake. Please ask Larry for permission to visit the lakes, on his portion of the family farm.
