A cosy home right in the heart of Cobh town, opposite Cobh Cathedral and with a stunning view of Cork Harbour and all the lively activity on the water throughout the Spring and Summer months.
Mi casa su casa! A small house, but a home so make yourself feel at ease, come and go as you please.
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as you want, I can give you some of my limited local knowledge or point you in the right direction or can leave you to discover the gems of East Cork all on your own!
Cobh is lovely to walk around, though very hilly so you'd need to be prepared for that. There are many levels you can view the harbour from, plus a lovely little town with cafes and bars. Aside from the historical elements, there are lovely parks, countryside and walks.
There is a train station that can transport you in and out of Cork city, as well as a cross river ferry which can take you over to Passage West and Monkstown. Cobh is very walkable but there are some steep hills so leave the heels at home!
Other Things to Note
An historical town, I fell in love with it the first time I visited friends there years ago. With remnants of Queenstown architecture, a lovely promenade and parks as well as historical places to see and visit, such as the Titanic Experience and the Heritage Centre, both absolute musts when visiting Cobh plus a visit to Cobh Cathedral which has one of the largest carillions in Europe and the bells are a musical sound when walking around Cobh town.
During the week, check in time is 6pm, at weekends I have more flexibility
From Sep 1 - Nov 30, 2015 the minimum stay is 2 nights.
Our experience was very pleasant staying with Leigh in her lovely home in the harbour of Cobh. It was clean, tidy and comfortable. Cobh is a lovely town and Leigh's place is very close to the train in order to get into cork city and Midleton. Two thumbs up
For my better half and me, staying with Leigh felt like staying with a close friend. Much more than a place to sleep! Each of our three mornings spent at her cozy pad we enjoyed delicious, healthy breakfasts of fresh fruit, organic yogurt and fresh Irish soda bread with organic butter and honey. And, coffee and tea, of course. Hanging out on the back porch, absorbing the view and listening to church bells and the sound of passing ships was nothing less than blissful. Leigh really made us feel at home! She is a wonderful conversationalist, too! The waterfront is lovely and only a short stroll down the hill with restaurants, pubs and interesting attractions. Five minutes the other way, there is a charming little pub called the twisted donkey, offering traditional Irish music and authentic atmosphere. Cobb is well connected by frequent train service to Cork city. For genuine Irish hospitality and charm, I highly recommend a stay with Leigh!
Leigh was really lovely and extremely friendly and her house was ideal. Leigh's place very centrally located and easy to find and I would definitely recommend it. She also left breakfast out for me which was a lovely touch. I will definitely be back!
Great location in the quiet seaside town of Cobh. Very close to everything couldn't ask for a better spot.
Clean house and very comfy bed.
Leigh was very friendly and a lovely host for my first Airbnb experience. Happy to help with anything I needed and full of local information.
Thanks for sharing your house with me for the week Leigh. :-)
Even by the late checkin, Leigh was waiting for us. He offered us drinks and showed us our room. We advised on the town and possible visits. Leigh is very nice and friendly and the house and our room were perfect for lounging. The backyard of the house is perfect for relaxing. When we got up we had prepared our breakfast. Our first experience with airbnb has been a pleasant experience.
About the Host, Leigh
I am a Sligo native, living and working in Cork City. I moved to Cobh about 8 years ago and I love it! It's a fabulous place to live, with all the activity on the water with cruise liners, yacht races as well as the naval base directly opposite, there's plenty of action on the sea! If you like walking, there are some lovely routes around Cobh and we're very close to Fota Island, so there's also the Wildlife Park, the Arboretum and Fota Island Resort, where the Irish Open golf tournament was held in June of this year. There are lovely little cafes, restaurants and a beautiful waterfront promenade. There are also 2 historical "must-see" items, the Cobh Heritage Centre and the Titanic Experience, housed in the original White Star Line buildings.
I love books, travel, the great outdoors, trying out new recipes and spending time with my family. I love hearing other people's travel stories, so I'll be curious to see where you've been and what you've seen!
I hope that you enjoy your stay with me. I'd be happy to point you in the right direction in terms of making the most of your stay, I just want your experience to be comfortable and relaxed. But also a realist, I'd love to hear your feedback if there's any way you feel I can improve.
I look forward to meeting you in Cobh!
