About this listing
A small but comfortable room in a house in the heart of Cobh. Directly opposite St Colman's Cathederal, my home has a lovely outdoor deck, with views of the harbour, so you can sit and drink your coffee in style! Only 5 minutes drive from Fota Island
A cosy home right in the heart of Cobh town, opposite Cobh Cathedral and with a stunning view of Cork Harbour and all the lively activity on the water throughout the Spring and Summer months.
Mi casa su casa! A small house, but a home so make yourself feel at home, come and go as you please.
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as you want, I can give you some of my limited local knowledge or point you in the right direction or can leave you to discover the gems of East Cork all on your own!
Cobh is lovely to walk around, though very hilly so you'd need to be prepared for that. There are many levels you can view the harbour from, plus a lovely little town with cafes and bars. Aside from the historical elements, there are lovely parks, countryside and walks.
There is a train station that can transport you in and out of Cork city, as well as a cross river ferry which can take you over to Passage West and Monkstown. Cobh is very walkable but there are some steep hills so leave the heels at home!
Other Things to Note
An historical town, I fell in love with it the first time I visited friends there years ago. With remnants of Queenstown architecture, a lovely promenade and parks as well as historical places to see and visit, such as the Titanic Experience and the Heritage Centre, both absolute musts when visiting Cobh plus a visit to Cobh Cathedral which has one of the largest carillions in Europe and the bells are a musical sound when walking around Cobh town.
During the week, check in time is 6pm, at weekends I have more flexibility
From Sep 1 - Nov 30, 2015 the minimum stay is 2 nights.
Even by the late checkin, Leigh was waiting for us. He offered us drinks and showed us our room. We advised on the town and possible visits. Leigh is very nice and friendly and the house and our room were perfect for lounging. The backyard of the house is perfect for relaxing. When we got up we had prepared our breakfast. Our first experience with airbnb has been a pleasant experience.
if there's a place in my travelling life i would go back that's leigh's.she is super nice and always there to help you out with your questions.twice she gave me a ride to cork railway station close to her workplace and once we went out for a drink (website hidden) was like staying with an old friend whom it was fun to talk to. breakfast was good and one could use the kitchen facilities to make his/her own lunch/dinner.
the room and the house in general were clean and smelled nicely. the picture and the house/room description on the airnbnb website really matched what i found on my arrival.
Logement 5 etoiles, Leigh s`occupe de tout!C`est un vrai petit hotel particulier. A recommander vivement!
If you're staying in Cohb, Leigh's place is a must. Not only is she a great host, she's a genuinely awesome person. I was traveling alone and didn't have too many set plans but Leigh was accommodating and kind. She makes breakfast on weekend mornings and even offered to do a bit of my laundry. The entire house and room is extremely tidy and cozy. Only thing is there isn't wifi, which isn't a huge issue because most pubs and restaurants do. I'd highly recommend staying here! Thanks for everything!
The short version: An absolute delight!
The longer version: Our stay at Leigh’s home was such a delight. It’s a cool old house on a winding old street, just a stone’s throw from the Cathedral and a quick jaunt from everything you’d want to see in Cobh. The view of Cork Harbour from Leigh's deck is nothing short of stunning, and I loved sitting out there in the morning. The house is clean and comfortable, the room is cozy, the shower is hot... But the best part of our stay was meeting Leigh! She was extremely hospitable and accommodating - offering help with our bags, whipping up a perfect light breakfast (including great coffee - big plus!), and writing down very helpful directions to our next destination. She’s also a great conversationalist and a wealth of knowledge about her town and Ireland in general. Leigh is exactly the sort of person you hope to meet whilst travelling. We highly recommend a stay at Leigh’s!
Leigh was an amazing host! She was very accommodating and truly made us feel at home. She gave us lots of ideas for what to do in Cobh and Cork and was very helpful. The room was cozy and the bed was very comfortable. Her patio has a lovely view and we had a great time chatting with her over coffee. Her apartment is a very quick walk to all the best of Cobh and was very convenient. Cobh in general is a beautiful town and I would definitely recommend this B and B to everyone!! Thanks Leigh!!
About the Host, Leigh
I am a Sligo native, living and working in Cork City. I moved to Cobh about 7 years ago and I love it! It's a fabulous place to live, with all the activity on the water with cruise liners, yacht races as well as the naval base directly opposite, there's plenty of action on the sea! If you like walking, there are some lovely routes around Cobh and we're very close to Fota Island, so there's also the Wildlife Park, the Arboretum and Fota Island Resort, where the Irish Open golf tournament was held in June of this year. There are lovely little cafes, restaurants and a beautiful waterfront promenade. There are also 2 historical "must-see" items, the Cobh Heritage Centre and the Titanic Experience, housed in the original White Star Line buildings.
I love books, travel, the great outdoors, trying out new recipes and spending time with my family. I love hearing other people's travel stories, so I'll be curious to see where you've been and what you've seen!
I'm new to AirBnB, so I hope that you enjoy your stay with me. I'd be happy to point you in the right direction in terms of making the most of your stay, I just want your experience to be comfortable and relaxed. But also a realist, I'd love to hear your feedback if there's any way you feel I can improve.
I look forward to meeting you in Cobh!
