We had such a great experience with Martial's dad in their home in the countryside of Provence. The price can't be beat for two couples, and Martial's dad was just the sweetest, friendliest, and most accommodating man we've met on this trip!
There was a language barrier, but we managed to communicate our preference for the hour of the plentiful and generous breakfast, and he even gave us a mobile internet device that we could drive into town with where it would actually be able to connect so we could have fast internet.
Nous avons apprécié l'accueil et le fait d'avoir une entrée indépendante. C'est également très agréable de ne pas devoir partager la salle de bains! Petit-déjeuner royal sur la terrasse :o)
Martial is a wonderful host! We had our own room and bathroom and in the evening we could sit on the terras. Every morning we had a great breakfast with croissants, cookies, fruit, ... Perhaps you could say the room doesn't have modern furniture etc, but everything is clean and the room is certainly big enough! The only disadvantage is that it is situated in a village that is a bit far (30 min, 1h) away from the tourist places but other than that, it was a wonderful stay and I would recommand it to others!
Martial's place was reasonably easy to find with a GPS. A bit off the beaten track but very peaceful and quiet. Not sure how you would get there without a car. Martial went out of his way to try to communicate with us, via French/English dictionary. Jan served us a lovely continental breakfast the two mornings we were there.and gave us some scrumptions purple figs off their tree when we were leaving. Unfortunately we were unable to get Wifi - maybe it was my computer. Lirac was a good area to use as a base to explore Avignon and surrounding villages and attractions.
We stayed here for three nights in July. As advertised, it is a true provance experience! Great wine cave in 15 minutes walking distance in Lirac. Mr. Durou was wonderful, providing us with a great breakfast and even giving us some breakfast when we had to leave early in the morning to catch a train. We spoke no french, but we still managed to communicate. He even waited up for us when we got lost and showed up about 3 hours late in the middle of the night. Even in the heat of July, the apartment was nice and cool. 5 minutes driving to the great nearby villages of Tavel and St. Laurent de Arbes, and Lirac itself is wonderful. We even got to see the village market in Lirac one day and bought some of the best goat cheese I have ever had.
The only thing is make sure that you have a good map with you, its easy to get lost.. Also wifi did not work well, but it was not missed, St. Laurent de Arbes has a great tourist info center that provided us with all the info and maps we needed.
Overall, highly recommended and we would definitely stay here again.
Martial was very friendly and helpful. The rooms (we got to choose between two!) were well kept and really nice - they had lots of charming character. Martial even made us a cutie breakfast. If we were staying in the area we would have loved to stay here longer.
We were there in mid-June and the temperature in the room (and outside) was lovely.
All-around it was great.
