Popes Museum is a must-see destination. The home and art environment of Laura Pope Forester, this historic site is recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as the oldest art environment in the nation. Mrs. Pope Forester used her home to honor women, veterans and to host thousands of visitors from all 48 states prior to 1953. Reopened in 2018, both the museum and the artist have earned numerous awards at the state/national level. Add this site to your travel goals!

The space
Whether you want a farm atmosphere in the deep south, or a historic trip to a museum, we have something to offer. From 1894-1953 Laura Pope Forester (1873-1953) used her home to create the nation's oldest self-taught art museums, known as "Popes Museum". Alongside the artwork, we have historic gardens, acres to meander, chickens scratching, a rooster crowing, and pet beagle. These partner with sculptures, paintings, & architecture that inspire creativity, family and patriotism. Coffee roasted and ground on site is served with a country breakfast from eggs on the farm, and local vendors products. U-pick pecans also available in season.
Beds for 6, but space for air mattress if needed. Also see our guest house that holds 4 located on the same property.

RVs are also welcome through Harvest Host or RVOvernights app.
Perfect location for your family reunion

Guest access
Historic grounds and gardens, kitchen, eat in kitchen, dining, laundry, 3 bedrooms, 1 full bath and two 1/2 baths, upstairs open living area, parlor with FP, library and farm* area (*under supervision).

During your stay
This is a nearly 4,000 square foot home site that is a restored Museum.
Typically, our family lives in the back portion and gives our guests exclusive use of entire north side of home/museum.
Also, the farm and gardens require work outside and we homeschool our teenage children. That being said we are lovers of hospitality and the variety of people that cross our path. Therefore, we try to perceive what our guests prefer as far as interaction. The exception is breakfast which is all together.

Other things to note
Breakfast is typically* included, and is served at 8:00 A.M. Meals of fresh eggs, onsite roasted coffee and freshly ground wheat pancakes, local bacon or sausage, we feed our guests farm to table, local products. However, we are a family owned historic site, not a restaurant.
If you have special needs for your breakfast, please bring food items and plan to use our kitchen.

*Occasionally there are scheduling conflicts. Please confirm that breakfast is available for your stay. Thank you for understanding as we strive to serve our family's needs.

Who buys an abandoned 1850s former folk art museum and turns it into a bnb, an event venue, and reopens the folk art museum! Dan and I thought "Why Not?" and it is a season of adventure that is for sure. Who knows? Maybe a documentary on it will be next!
