  • The room (Whashington Heights) was descibde as a small room in a 2 bed apartment with thin walls, in real it was a one bed apartment seperate in 4 minimal bedrooms with plywood panels. So you could hear everyone snoring, not very relaxing. Our room was the only one with a window apart from the bath. The room was really dirty, so the bath room (moldy shower curtain, which was replaced after a week) and when the weather got colder the wind was coming from the outside through the wall and window. We had to spend a couple of nights at another place to our own costs. They tried to fix it, but I cant recommend that place during cold weather.
And to keep a place that small clean, should not be such a problem.
Never met Pal in person, just talked with him on the phone ones to report the broken wall/window, he said, hes not in charge of this apartment, so we contact Dan (who is living in one of the small rooms himself) again, and he called someone to fix it.
Dan is nice, gave us his charger a coulple of times.
    Nice doormen, safe area.
Would not stay there again, we didnt feel compfy at all.

  • Dan is an amicable person who gave use good information about what to see in the different areas of New york City. He made us feel welcome and provided us with essentials such as a hairdryer and iron.

The price for the room - considering the location was brilliant. The view from the bedroom is what you would expect to see if you were staying in an expensive rooftop apartment.

The space itself is very small and for two travellers and was quite difficult to manage. On viewing the image on the advert we were expecting a double bed but got two single beds at either end of the room. Due to the compact space we could not move them together. A couple sleeping in a single bed is not the ideal situation.

Overall, we had a good stay at Dan. We never met Pal.

  • The flat is in a great location and a perfect place if you are looking for an affordable place to sleep in NYC. Dan is a very nice person!

Dan, thank you very much for the great stay. We had a great time and hope to see you again. Many greetings from Prague.

  • Dan is very nice. The house is small and old. For one person, it is good enough. The view is great.

  • Very affordable. It's a squeeze for two people, but it's expected in NYC, hence it's not an issue. Dan is a helpful and warm host. Travelling downtown is easy and fast with the express A train.

  • Dan is a cool guy, the first night there was misunderstanding so I couldn't go straight to sleep in my room at Washington Heights and I spent a night in Brooklyn so I could see both of his places. The one in Brookly is very close to Manhattan, only 10 minutes and the subway is a short walking distance from the apt. the bed was comfy I have to say that I loved it and I would go back there next time. The following day he came and took us to the other place ( room for singles or couple) that should be the best room he got, the view from the window is great the bed is comfortable, the bathrom is as clean as any other share house or hostel...it's up to the people! Dan gives you towels and tips that's all you need. The place is very cheap so you can't pretend to be in a 5 star hotel in downtown, if you get the express subway the way down to the city center is very fast like 25 minutes or so, during night the subway it might doesn't work very well so it could take a long time to get back up there cause you have to change line and walk a longer distance but if you are 2 people with 12-15 dollar max each you get back home in 10 minutes and that's still cheaper than rent any other room in New York. Sometimes going around and go back home to drop off your staff could be annoying cause you would "waste" at least one hour to go back home and get down again but you only have to organize your day...I did shoping only one day so i could stay around from the morning up to night...The area is very safe, full of police during night, no danger around, there are many restaurant, starbucks and a couple of nice pubs. Central park and the famous cotton club in harlem are probably the closest place you have. What else? Enjoy your staying in New York, is one of the best city in the world! Many thanks to Dan hope to go back soon!

  • I modify my first coment into this one because It was to personal ( I apologize to Dan) and Dan just replied with bad coments . I would say that I was aware by the coments that Dan's flat was small and with no privacy as they are not real walls with not real rooms. So, I should not complain about this. However, for me, the room was not clean. The floor, blankets, braid and pillow case seems unwashed. The room does not look like the picture. However, the location is good as it is direct train to JFK and 15min to Manhattan. If you are just looking for a place to sleep for couple of days, that is fine.

  • My friend and I stayed 5 days in NY by Dan and had a very good welcome! Dan suggests all the things to do in NY and how to get around + the best places to visit. He's also hosted people from all around the world so likes to share new experiences and chats! Thanks Dan See you soon!

  • The room is small, but good enough for what we needed. We had problem with the heating because there was only one heater for the room and it was so cold during first few days. My sister had to sleep in her coat one night! When it got warmer it was ok.
Apartment is close to the metro and the neighborhood is safe.

  • The room was small like most places in NY. Amenities are minimal as expected. The bathroom was always clean and the basic amenities are provided. The water was always good and hot. The doormen are all nice and friendly. It was really convenient that we only needed to take one train from JFK airport to his place (no transfers).
The most importantly the service provided by Dan was five star, and we always felt welcomed and at home.
