I live in the compound and am available to help you.
It's a wonderful neighborhood. We are about a ten minute walk to the Jardin but are in a country like setting. We are just minutes from Juarez Park, The Rosewood and Matilda.
Please let us know in advance when you will be arriving so that we can figure out the best way to get you the keys. Please be respectful of others in the compound. It is OK to party but do so quietly after 12 am. Please lock all doors when you leave the building. If you lose your keys please let us know immediately.
I love this studio - birdsong in the morning - lush grounds of tress and bugamvillias. The studio suite has everything you need. Sweet dogs to greet you and protect. Secure. Your host Patricia is very warm, kind, accommodating. All you need to do is ask and she will remedy or provide what is required. Great location!!!! Near beautiful Juarez park (great breakfast haciendas around the corner) 10 minute walk to the Jardine Principal. Easy and cheap for a taxi back home if needed, Wifi. fridge to keep your fresh fruits from the market after washing. Lovely rooftop terrace. If you have mobility problems San Miguel is not the easiest town to manoeuvre around because of narrow cobblestone streets and sidewalks and you may be better off right downtown at a hotel. Remember airbnb is not a hotel - if you are independent this will work well! This is great value and beautiful in a high end location for a good price!!!
Patricia was so welcoming and friendly, and as a long time resident very helpful sharing her knowledge of he city. The retreat studio truly unique, nestled in an incredible area country like area with spectacular houses, yet only a few blocks to center of town. The spacious view from the roof top patio is absolutely spectacular.
Generally, the listing hits it right on. The location is fantastic, a quick walk from Centro. The grounds are gorgeous, and were perfect for our adventurous 5 year old to explore. We loved the roof garden - wish we could've had more time in SMA and at the Casa Dharma to just hang out there. As noted by other reviewers, there are 3 large, young (excitedly friendly) dogs living in the compound. They were friendly and never caused us any problems.
The space itself is rustic and has a very distinct, charming aesthetic. Our only complaint: it was also a bit musty/dusty - my allergies went off every time we walked in. That was manageable, if a bit annoying. The flowers and fresh fruit upon our arrival were a lovely touch, and Patricia was very friendly and communicative.
Overall, we had a great experience and really enjoyed our time at Casa Dharma.
Patricia gave us a great orientation to the studio which was truly delightful. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Her 3 dogs were spirited adolescents, but friendly. They soon got to know and trust us.
Patricia was helpful to me when my suitcase was delayed, arranging for its delivery. I really appreciated her help.
I was disappointed by the appearance of the studio. It didn't look like the photographs, which had made the place appear bright and colorful. In reality, the furnishings in the room were old and dingy; the rug had a hole in it; the large mirror was broken, and some of the pillow coverings soiled and torn; the windows looked as if they hadn't been cleaned in years. The whole place needs a good deep cleaning. For the first 6 weeks of my stay, my room was cleaned and my sheets changed only twice, and both times I had to ask for this service, which was supposed to be provided weekly. As the weeks went by (I stayed for 2 months) Patricia became less responsive. Requests for simple necessities, such as replacing a lightbulb, were ignored.
I loved the location. It is just removed enough from Centro to feel secluded. I really enjoyed the roof garden. There are 3 large, friendly dogs who live out of doors within the compound. They are great watchdogs, but they often woke me up. I had to sleep with earplugs.
Despite the excellent location, next year I will be staying elsewhere in San Miguel.
I am so sorry if the photographer makes things look brighter than they actually are. Most people arrive and say it is even more beautiful than the photographs. I would have been happy to get Anne a light bulb I just needed a gentle reminder. We misunderstood each other. I thought she was going to let us know when she wanted the studio cleaned because she preferred her privacy. She never communicated with me by email, text or Airbnb where I could have been reminded of her needs. I had just lost my assistant of 10 years and was in the process of training a flock of assistants to take his place. I did try to explain this to her but apparently she lacked compassion for my situation.
The furnishings aren't perfect. Entropy occurs and things deteriorate.
She complained that I didn't say goodbye to her. If it were me I would have said good bye rather than expecting me to remember that she was leaving early.
My experience is that some people make the best of things and others just complain after the fact. As I said, I never received any written communication about her needs. We had the windows washed well but it turns out that we need to replace them. I do my best to maintain the properties but I can't meet all needs at once. I think if she had made a greater to effort to communicate with me more of her needs could have been met.
